Today I tried the new 'build service'. My repo is located at my home directory: https://forge.codesys.com/git/u,hermsen,cicd.git/
I placed a library which is built according to all hints on CI/CD  and place a .drone.yaml in the same root;

The log message tells me the following

Can you please help me get the CI/CD sorted once and for all? It just doesn't work as advertised :-(

My standard grid size is four points. I have snap-to-grid enabled 99% of the time.

When dragging the size of a component that is already in place (e.g. a button) from the left or top the new position snaps to grid point as expected. In other words, the result is a component that has its x and y coordinates at a multiple of 4. What has changed, is the behaviour when dragging the size from the right side or down side. Again, the new size appears to snap to the grid as you would expect. But upon closer inspection this is not the case. The new width (or height) after dragging the right edge (or lower edge) is a multiple of 4 **PLUS 1**.

E.g. starting with a component width of 40. After dragging the right edge one grid position to the right I would have expected the new width to be 44. It is not, it will be 45. Same if I drag a few positions further. E.g. when I would expect it to snap to a width of 60, instead it snaps to a width of 61 points.

At first sight this seems of little relevance but it messes things up visually because of z-order that comes into play when two adjacent components rather than just "touch" upon each other will instead overlap by 1 pixel. Ugly when placing buttons, for instance.

This has not always been the case and I don't know exactly at which version this changed.

About codesys

First of all hello.
I have two questions for you.
1 question:
I want to standardize variable names in my projects. Can I extract the universal variables I have defined to an excel file?
I tried but I failed. I can do this process in "comforpoint" software of "honeywell" but I couldn't do it in plc designer.
My 2nd question:
Can I auto-align data types when defining variables?
I need to write a script for this process?

In an visualization frame i would like to run a method by the mouse click event.
If the button is clicked, the method should run (multiply cycles) until the method returns a value.

My issue is, that i can't find a way within the frame.
Do i really use to have a POU which handles the cyclic call?
Isn't there any code behind within the frame possible?

An other way is to use a separate HMI project and map with data sources.
How can i map also methods? Variables, properties and transitions are mappable, why doesn't work methods?

Thanks for your help

I was wondering if Codesys Forge pages also support the .rst (reStructured Text) markup language. I have not tried this yet so I am asking this in the blind. I have not read anything about this support on the forum.
Support of .Rst would be benneficial as Codesys itself supports this wonderful markup language by design, so it's synergetic and reusable which matters ;-) Maybe there is a .rst support addon for allura?

Hoping to hear something!

GIF animations

Hi There,

I tried to upload a neat animayed .GIF file but sadly it's not animated when displayed.
Is it possible to fix this?

Can you create a freely editable wiki for named "Developer guide & tips" ?
Also, someone (you ;-) ) should have the ultimate rights to lock/unlock it whenever appropriate so that it will not be edited all year around.
I suspect it will be edited a lot because it is still young and new tips will be added frequently or current content gets revised.

According to suggestion;
We can start a WIKI in cforge called "Developer guide & tips" which can contain a compendium of good practices like versioning tips, coding style tips etc etc.

-----

Versioning tips;
-All developers should stick to one version of the development environment to avoid any confusion (not only for libraries). Offcourse, users can use any version.In any case, the user must know project (library) format before download. This format must be one for target device (RPi3, ...).
- "used compiler version" and "project file format" are different things. You can e.g. use 3.5.10.0 version as compiler but e.g. 3.5.11.0 version for the project file format.
- As long as your project is not finished, stick to the chosen version of compiler and project format;
- ;
etc.

-----

Coding tips;
- for RTS_IEC_HANDLE and RTS_IEC_RESULT types need to add SysTypes2 Interfaces (3.5.4.0);
- if possible, use standard error codes (CmpErrors or CmpErrors2 Interfaces);
- avoid using dynamic memory (the usage of NEW operator);
- use the ST language whenever possible (ST is by far the most versatile language, in which all operations, manipulations and functions are possible);
- document the source code (add meaningful comments);
- for modern coding style advice: read the Codesys v3 library development tips as provided in codesys help - guidelines for creating libraries,
    They are pretty good but, but not as thorough as "code complete" but provide a very good starting point.
    Further reading: e.g. Steve McConnell "Code Complete";
-;
