    Hi,

I have problems trying to stablish a connection to the PLC. In my case I am following the tutorial on "Your first Codesys program" and using my laptop to simulate the plc.

The gateway find the computer but always request credentials.

So far I have tried to start Codesys as admin. I also tried the passwords Administrator (biz.) and Admin or admin without succeeding.

Any idea what could it be the problem? How I can get around to remove the admin rights or credentials to the device?

Both gateway and PLC have been started on the sysTray.

    Hi,

Almost identical problem for me, so I comment in this thread. Feels like I have tried everything and followed every guide/instruction without any sucess.

    Codesys 3.5.17
Wago 750-8212 with PFC200 SL ver 4.2 runtime up and running

But reagardless what user/pass wd I try I always get this error: "Invalid user authentication on the target" (See picture)

    Ideas?

    Hi,

Has someone an idea why my PC (used as virtual PLC) asks all the time for credentials?

Is there someone here that could help us?

Also, why can I not change Device user: "Anonymous" to something else?

Under device-> User and Groups I cannot create any list of users (jus when I start simulation mode).

    Try username : admin
    password :

    leave the password blank

This is what works for my set-ups with softPLC and real PLC, I'm just thinking those might be the defaults, worth a try.

    Thanks,

    Unfortunately it did not work.

In my case, I am running no PLC at all.

I try to use my laptop as my PLC. Is there something I am missing by attempting to connect my laptop as a PLC?

For example, it does work if I use "Simulation" and then do a login. This makes sense because then I have no physical system where to connect. However, I would like to use hardware from my pc so I can then connect to Factory IO which needs some type of physical interface.

BTW @eschwellinger, I have followed the link you posted (even before you did) and did not solve the issue.

@jmbruges, it sounds like you can login with the user 'anonymous'? the user and pass are different for everyone's PLC, because the very first time you connect, the dialog actualy reads something like 'please create a user'. It is easy not to read the dialog, and just start guessing at usernames. In which case, your username and password are the very first 'guess' you made.

The following guide describes how you can adapt the user management for the first time in a project. It deals with the definition of a user and a group to which he belongs.

Requirement: the project for which the user management is to be set up is opened. There is no adapted user configuration yet.

Select Project Settings ‣ Users and Groups and then the Users tab. The user Owner is already created by default.

    Click on Add.

⇒ The dialog box Add User appears.

Enter a login name, for example ‘Dev1’, and a password. Leave the option Activated activated. Click on OK.

⇒ On creating a group for the first time, CODESYS now requests you to authenticate yourself to perform this action.

In this case, enter ‘Owner’ as the current user. Do not enter a password, just click on OK.

The user Dev1 appears in the list and is automatically a member of the group 'Everyone'.

Change to the tab Groups, in order to add the user to a new group.

⇒ The groups Everyone and Owner have already been created.

Click on Add in order to open the dialog box Add Group.

Specify at least one name for the new group, for example ‘Developers’. Activate the checkbox next to the entry User ‘Dev1’ in the field Members. Click on OK.

⇒ The group Developers now appears with has user member 'Dev1'.

    Switch to the Users tab.

⇒ The user Dev1 now appears as a member of the groups ‘Everyone’ and ‘Developers’.

    Hi everyone,

Had that problem before where I could not create another user but used the method just above and it worked great.

My problem now is that I get this message when attempting to logon to the device:

invalid user authentication on the target

dev5, the new user created is pretty much a copy of the user 'Owner' except for the password.

Any idea as to why I am always getting this "invalid user authetication on the target" message ?

    Using Codesys V3.5 SP19 Patch 6 + (64 bit)

    Regards

Just adding some info regarding the issue above.

Logged onto the project using dev3og5 user (see screenshots); appeared to be ok although when attempting to logon to the device message says 'currently not authorized to perform this operation on the device' (screenshot).

If user dev3og5 has same permissions as Owner user; why would it not be authorized.

I am at a loss; any assistance would greatly be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Mike

Following up on the invalid user authentication on the target

Not 100% sure what the problem was but following my post I managed to create an administrator level user.

Then my next issue was that I could not connect to the device.

I might have flipped the device from a 64 bit version to a 32 bit version so I did UPDATE DEVICE back to the 64 bit version; still could not connect somehow.

Then I did two things at the same time that fixed my problem:

    • Wiped the Codesys Control Win 64 bit version and installed the 32 bit version
    • Installed latest Codesys Control Win V3.5 SP20 (released today)
    • I wish I knew which one of these actions fixed the problem but at least the problem is solved.

Hoping this post may help someone one day
