Is there a way to assign a string variable with the contents of a string from the GlobalTextList? Also of import, when it assigns the variable from the GlobalTextList it uses the correct language from the GlobalTextList.

This seems like a pretty basic question but I cannot find any documentation or application notes on the topic. How can I perform field update of units without using the Codesys software? Is there a simpler upload software package, or can I use FTP, to upload a new boot app to the unit? In my exeperience, uploading a new .app to the PlcLogic folder using FTP sometimes doesnt work, and sometimes it erases my persistent values. What am I doing wrong?

I figured some of it out. The offline help is indeed a documentation of the C# methods/classes of the ScriptEngine.dll. They do add some blurbs about how this interfaced in the Python script, but it's a real mess. Where I'm stuck is that I want to read/write to a current running simulation. create_online_application() can be used to create a new connection, but I don't see a function to connect to an existin connection. Is there not one provided?

The online help for Python has much more relevant information (https://help.codesys.com/webapp/cdsaccesscdsfuncinpythonscripts;product=codesys;version=3.5.16.0) but the link to the API brings...
