It could be a problem with the cable pinout on either side: 9 pin D-SUB connector (male) - PC side Pin Potential: 1 n.c. 2 RxD 3 TxD 4 n.c. 5 n.c. 6 GND 7 n.c. 8 n.c. 9 n.c.
