I have a question regarding Teamviwer VPN and Codesys on remote computer
If we have a computer connected with ethernet cable to a PLC, is it possible to connect to the PLC from another computer with teamviewer VPN? have anyone tried?
Computer 1: have codesys installed, but not located in the same area as PLC.
computer 2: does not have any codesys software installed, but wired ethernet connected to PLC.
PLC: Running Codesys software.
To prevent all these difficulties with setting up VPN connections, the alternative is to use the CODESYS Automation Server and manage your PLC's (and applications) there. Below the steps you need to take.
1) Create an account (subscription) for the CODESYS Automation Server in the Store: https://store.codesys.com/en/codesys-automation-server.html. This is free for 2 PLC's.
2) Install the Edge Gateway on Computer 2: https://store.codesys.com/en/codesys-edge-gateway-for-windows.html.
3) You need to configure this gateway to let it connect to your Automation Server. For this you could use CODESYS, but if you do not want this, you can use the Service Tool: https://store.codesys.com/en/service-tool.html
4) Once it is connected, you can add your PLC in the Automation Server by searching for PLC's behind this gateway.
5) Then the final step is that you connect your CODESYS environment also to your Automation Server and once this is done, you will see that you can select the Gateway connected to the Automation Server and through this Gateway connect to the PLC.
All of this is done over a secured connection.
