Post by dtamm on How to read string from CharBufferPtr? CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Solved it! The simple answer was to declare a variable as POINTER TO STRING and assign the GetMessage result to that variable. Then, the ^ operator can be used to extract the message as string.

Post by stuartjr on POU Private variables CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Pretty sure I know the answer, but thought I would ask just in case. Is there a way to set variables declared in a POU to private so that they can not be accessed from other POUs. I tried using the library pragma, but that just stops the variables being displayed in the selection tree. My compiler version is 2.3.9.62 if that's relevant, and I'm using an ABB AC500 V2 PLC. Cheers

Post by pernockham on Is there a pragma for init/instantiation of local variables in FB (like in Methods) CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Im using a pointer as input for a FB and for convenience I like to use 'referenced' variable internally. I use this setup in methods which works because internal variables are instantiated for each call. In a FB these variables are instantiated and initiated for the first call only. Is there a pragma/attribute available that changes this behaviour to mirror a 'method'-call?

Post by stribor on Passing properties as VAR_IN_OUT variables. CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
I am designing a custom slider object and i ran into a problem when i want to use properties with it. I can update the basic variables if i have a slider variable defined as VAR_IN_OUT, but it does not work with properties. How can i achieve same functionality that some basic objects have (for example basic Slider that comes withing the codesys libraries) such that i can pass both variables and properties to it and they can be modified within the object? I am using Codesys V3.5 SP20 Patch 5.

Post by fless on FB having single input but initialized with Array CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Why will it retain the sum value from the last call? This is how PLC work. Usually variables only get initialized after a download or a reset (i.e. power loss). RETAIN variables are saved in a special kind of RAM and keep their value after a power loss. To initialize variables on every call of your FB use the VAR TEMP block. VAR_TEMP sum : INT; END_VAR

Hello dear. I have the same problem. Could you solve it? Do you use GLV variables?

Here is some information about formatting different variables types: https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Visualization/_visu_placeholder_with_formatting_sequence_in_a_string.html I hope this helps!

What is the exact meaning of the variables that measure the softmotion performance : Axis_Ref_SM3.perfTimers.udiAI_ns Axis_Ref_SM3.perfTimers.udiAO_ns Axis_Ref_SM3.perfTimers.udiBI_ns Axis_Ref_SM3.perfTimers.udiBO_ns

Hi, these variables are internal members of the axis. They measure the duration of some internal function calls.

Have you tried using the persistence manager which uses the file system of the controller to store persistent variables?

Hi, did you get any solution. I am facing similar problem. I lost all the values

Post by totorovic on Persistent variables lost CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
IDK why you lost values but about the limit, when you compile, you should have the information about the memory remaining.

no need to activate application composer. It is part of the licensefree part.

What do you mean it is part of the licensefree part? I attached my error message.

Post by fless on Warning C0564 when compiling CNC project with variables program CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Update: We managed to avoid the warnings by changing the order of initialization by adding an attribute to the GVL with the variables. {attribute 'global_init_slot' := '49989'} The variables are initialized right before the regular GVLs (default GVL slot 49990). Note to Codesys: I see the problem, Codesys needs to initialize the CNC objects before the GVLs so they can be used in the GVL. But then you can't use variables from GVLs in CNC programs. Maybe you could disable the warning in your generated CNC objects? At least a note for a workaround would have been nice.

Post by daanyouknow on Using a raspberry pi and NVLs to log variables outside of Codesys CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Hi, My PLC/controller doesn't support OPC UA, so my current plan to create a ringbuffer/circular logger is to connect a raspberry pi to it, use the Network Variable List receiver and sender and raspberry pi codesys runtime to get the variables to the raspberry pi, after which I will use the pi which DOES support OPC UA to get the variables to a python program which logs the desired variables for a certain amount of time for me, would this work? I don't want to spend 50+ euros + licencing fees for a solution that might not work.

Post by clarenced on Multiple applications on one device sharing variables. CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Sounds feasible, but how would I create this object so that both applications would use the same instance of it. If this did work, it's still not really the solution I am looking for as it would mean mapping every variable I want to use on the hmi through this object vs I was hopping all the GVL variables would be available.

Post by timvh on IECStringUtils.FormatDateTime CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
There has been a fix in SP21. I tried it in this version with the option "Use unicodestring" enabled in the Visualization Manager and it worked if the variables used for the function are declared as WSTRING variables wsFormat : WSTRING := "%t[HH:mm:ss dd.MM.yyyy]"; wsTime : WSTRING; IECStringUtils.FormatDateTime(cbpResult := ADR(wsTime), uiResultCapacity := SIZEOF(wsTime), cbpFormat := ADR(wsFormat));

Post by blitz on Latch alarm variables from the PLC runtime CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Hi, I have a question. Does anyone know a way to change latch alarm variables from the PLC runtime? In the help there is a method described: https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/libs/AlarmManager/Current/Interfaces/pou-IAlarm3/SetLatchVarValue.html but I don’t know how to use it correctly.

Post by gatto on variables between two applications CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
No. As you can see in the uploaded image, in my test project, I have a variable list GVL_1 which is located in appication_1. But if I write in POU_2, which is instead found in application 2, I cannot find the variables of GVL_1. it seems that the GVLs are children of each app

Post by davidmic on Struct Literal CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
Hi all I want to pass a struct into a function without declaring the struct in a VAR/END_VAR. Is this possible? I think this would be called a struct literal It would look something like this someFB.write(structArgument := MyStruct#(a := 1, b := 1.2), otherArgument := TRUE); With this struct declaration TYPE MyStruct : STRUCT a : INT; b : REAL; END_STRUCT END_TYPE
