I wanted to dive into the subject and decided to follow this great Instructables article: https://www.instructables.com/Programming-Raspberry-Pi-With-CODESYS/ Thank you in advance for your help! My current setup is as follows: 1. I have Codesys Control for Raspberry Pi, version 4.14.0.0, (https://store.codesys.com/en/codesys-control-for-raspberry-pi-sl.html) installed on a Raspberry Pi 3B. 2. I am using my smartphone hotspot to create a network. 3. I have CODESYS 3.5 SP21 (64 bit) installed on my Windows 11 laptop. 4. Both the Raspberry Pi and my laptop are connected to the smartphone hotspot network (I am wirelessly connecting to the Raspberry Pi). Connecting to the Raspberry Pi from CODESYS on my laptop: 1. I launch Codesys Installer -> I install Codesys Control for Raspberry Pi (link to the software). 2. I launch Codesys 3.5 SP21 (64 bit) on my laptop. 3. I go to file --> new project --> standard project --> in the pop-up I select "Codesys Control for Raspberry Pi" and "Structured Text" 4. I click on tools -> Deploy Control SL (on older versions of Codesys you would click on "update Raspberry Pi", I got that information from this video: link) 5. Inside Deploy Control SL --> I go to the "communication" menu and I input the IP address of my Pi, the password, and click on connect. 6. Inside Deploy Control SL --> I go to the "deployment" menu and I install Codesys Control for Raspberry Pi SL and Codesys Edge Gateway for Linux 7. Now I double click on "device" in the left hand tree and put in the IP address of my Raspberry Pi and click on connect --> success! I am able to connect! SEE SECOND PICTURE Powering the EK1100 and connecting it to the Raspberry Pi: 1. I am supplying the EK1100 with 24 V across the + and - pins. 2. I have jumper wires going from the + pin to the 24V pin and from the - pin to the 0V pin. SEE THIRD PICTURE 4. I am pretty confident that the EK1100 is receiving power because the "LED Us 24 V" and "LED Up 24 V" are lighting up. 5. I then run an ethernet cable from the EK1100 to the Raspberry Pi port (the Raspberry Pi is connected to my laptop wirelessly over WiFi). I think this connection should also be good since the LINK/ACT LED lights up. Trying to connect to the EK1100: 1. Back in Codesys I right-click on "Device" in the left tree and then in the pop up I click on "add device". 2. I then click on EtherCAT Master. 3. Next in a terminal window I SSH into the raspberry Pi and run the "ifconfig" command. 4. From there I get the MAC address for eth0 --> in my case: b8:27:eb:29:a9:25 5. Then, back in Codesys I double click on "EtherCAT Master" in the left hand tree. I then paste the MAC address into the "Source Address (MAC)" field. 6. I go to the Beckhoff official website and download the XML files for EtherCAT: https://www.beckhoff.com/en-en/products/i-o/ethercat-terminals/ek1xxx-bk1xx0-ethercat-coupler/ek1100.html? 7. I unzip those files in my computer into some folder that I can remember. 8. Back in Codesys I click on "Tools" --> "Device Repository" --> "Install" --> and then on the "Beckhoff EK11xx.XML" file. 9. In theory the necessary XML file is now installed. 10. THIS IS WHERE I RUN INTO THE PROBLEM: I then click on login --> I right click on EtherCAT_Master and then scan for devices --> and nothing. 11. It just doesn't detect it. On top of this whenever I login I get those orange triangles on the left on my tree. When I check the Log I get the messages at the very first screenshot of this post. SEE FOURTH PICTURE Solutions that I have tried to resolve this problem: 1. I thought it was maybe the .XML file so I installed all the .XML files from the EtherCAT folder that I downloaded. That didn't fix it. 2. I went on the Wayback Machine and got the .XML files from 2018 as I thought maybe an older version would work. This file of EtherCAT folders had a .XML file named "Beckhoff EKxxxx.XML" I thought this would work because that's the name of the file the guy in the Instructables used (https://www.instructables.com/Programming-Raspberry-Pi-With-CODESYS/). That didn't do anything. 3. I ran the PLC on my computer instead of the Raspberry Pi and tried to connect to the EK1100, in case the issue was with the Raspberry Pi, but I still ran into the same error from the picture above: "Attention! The device was not found in the repository. Vendorcode: 0x0. Productcode: 0x0. Revision: 0x0". SEE FIFTH PICTURE 4. I reinstalled Codesys, I was originally on version 3.5 SP20 when I did this, I upgraded to 3.5 SP21 with no success. 5. I then thought the solution might be to first add the EK1100 hardware before connecting so I did the following: 6. Right click on "EtherCAT Master" on the left hand tree --> then click on "add device" --> then I added the "EK1100 EtherCAT Coupler (2A E-Bus)" MY THEORY OF WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM: I asked ChatGPT for help and it said that it might have something to do with the revision number. On the physical EK1100 it says "Rev. Nr.: 0018". I believe that this means that I need to a revision 0018 XML file but if you look in Codesys it says the version is 16 (picture above). This is confusing because I got my .XML file from the official Codesys website so it should be the most up to date version possible. I searched and I searched and I couldn't find a version 18 .XML file, I don't even now if this exists. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated, I don't know what to do anymore and I really really want to get this working. Thank you!

Hi, I am writing to you today because I would like to create a library that would contain a program with its various subprograms, in my example "PLC_PRG" with "a", "aa", "aaa". But once the library is created as shown below: I would like to be able to drag and drop my folder as many times as I want (let's say I manage the same system multiple times). Once the drag and drop is done, we can see the second folder with the variables renamed successfully. As shown below: But my variables in CAD_1 remain the same as for CAD, so it's PLC_PRG instead of PLC_PRG_1, for example. Is there a solution to automate this? I wouldn't want to have to rename all my variables manually, considering that in the program where I want to do this, the number of variables is substantial. Lucas.

Hello everyone, I am trying to test the OPC UA client feature in Codesys. My setup is the following; I have a Codesys simulation/ visualization running on Control Win V3. My OPC UA server is hosted on a Siemens 1518 PLC using PLCSim Advanced. The setup is completely virtual so there are no really PLCs. Everything is on my laptop. Writing data from the Codesys simualtion to the server is very quick. I have a PLC program running on another 1500 PLC which reads data from simulation via the server, and changes in the simulation (e.g. button pressed) appear within hundreds of miliseconds if not tens of miliseconds in my PLC program. However, when it comes to reading data from the OPC UA Server by Codesys, it taks around 1-2s. I connected a UAExpert client and it gets update very quickly so I am fairly sure the problem is with Codesys. I have tried changing the update rate in datasource -> General and Diagnosis, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. Do you guys have any suggestion on what I can do?

Post by manuknecht on Persistence Manager does not save alphabetically first value
CODESYS Forge

(Post)
I have several libraries which contain values that should be saved on a PLC. As apparently no Persistent Variable List is available within Libraries, I use the Persistence Manager to create a Persistence Channel in the Project which imports the library. I then specify the persistence channel in the library using the {attribute 'ac_persist':='PersistenceChannel_CT'} specifier. This generally works very well and gives me exactly the properties I require. However, it came to my attention that the (alphabetially) first value from the library is not saved in the created ASCII file. When checking the content of the Persistence Channel, it shows all the variables as defined in the library. But the created file does not contain the first value and it is not restored after restart or reset. (see attached picture) I disabled Periodic Saving and set xSaveOnChange to TRUE and so the file usually updates immediately after changing one of the values. When changing the first value, it does not update which is consistent with this value not being saved. I also created a sample project and library from scratch which shows the same issue both using a Raspberry Pi and using a Linux machine. Does someone know what the reason for this could be or did someone make similar experiences? Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks in advance and best wishes Manuel

Hi! I´ll try to get this thread going again as i´m having simliar problems. Right now i get a red triangle on my connected devices (i´m testing with a BME280 sensor and a PCA9685 resvo driver). The TCA9548 have the green symbol beside it. On the "red" devices i get that the bus is not running. I have tried to either run it using the parent bus cycle setting or creating a new freewheeling task prio 1 but nothing helps. I have compared my settings to the settings from the example from the MUX package and i have read (i think) every thread in forge that could be of interest. EDIT: The ic2detect only shows the mux (70-70) and the servo drive (70-76) so i´ll look in to if i managed to burn the 280-sensor while soldering). Another question regarding the 280 sensor. I have a sensor GY-BM E/P 280 that should record humidity and temperatur. Could this be a problem with the library? Does anyone have an idea of what i might be doing wrong? I have some experience from Codesys but not much so this could be an easy one. All suggestions are welcome. I tried to upload the project archive but it did not work. Should i upload the export or how could i show you my horrible project? Best, Martin

GoodMorning everyone. I have a system that, in case of alarm, have to block. When the operator logs in must have to acknoledge the alarm and should operate in the system freely. To perform this I detect the logged User by (VisuElems.CurrentUserGroupID <> 0) with a similar code to the the following: PROGRAM AlarmMngt VAR alarm : BOOL:= FALSE; Ack : BOOL:= TRUE; PushBottonOpening : BOOL:= FALSE; Valve : BOOL := FALSE; Flag: BOOL := FALSE; END_VAR IF alarm AND Ack AND (NOT Flag) THEN valve := FALSE; PushBottonOpening := FALSE; Ack := FALSE flag := TRUE; ELSIF (NOT alarm) AND Ack THEN flag := FALSE; END_IF (* if the system is in alarm but there is a logged operator that acknowledge the alarm the system allows the valve opening.*) IF (VisuElems.CurrentUserGroupID <> 0) AND Ack AND Alarm AND PushBottonOpening THEN Valve := TRUE; ELSIF (VisuElems.CurrentUserGroupID = 0) AND Alarm THEN valve := FALSE; END_IF The problem I have is in the last 5 lines of the code: Even if there is a logged in user, the GroupID variable is subjected to a refresh that cyclically set for an instant it to 0 and this close the valve making difficult to the user to work Now I solved it creating a time hysteresys cycle but it is not a good solution. Someone is able to explane me why the GroupID variable is sobjected to this refresh and how to stabilize to avoiding it? Thank you in advance, Riccardo

Good morning everyone. In my setup I am trying to use a couple of EL7041-0052 (the EL7041 variant without terminals for an encoder) to run stepper motors without feedback. When using the softmotion drivers for the EL7041 (Rev22 and Rev24, even selecting external feedback type doesn't work) the device log shows warnings for the corresponding hardware: "SDO write error 0x1 -> 0x8012:0x08 eError 0x1 AbortCode 0x6090011". 0x8012:0x08 is the register for the Feedback Type. My best guess was setting the the register value in the start parameters to zero, but the result is the same. What else can I try to get the hardware to work? I have screenshots attatched showing the running fieldbus and the log messages. EDIT: One clarification: the "device log" that shows the error is the PLC, not the ethercat terminal. The log of the terminal itself shows neither errors nor warnings. BR Robert

Hi all! I'm working on an home project using a Raspberry Pi 3 device with Codesys for Raspberry Pi 64 SL runtime. I would like to create the HMI interface with Siemens WinCC Unified (or Advanced) configuring the Raspberry as OPC UA server. I tryed everything, but I didn't find the way to let the OPC UA connection works using UaExpert. I tryed to use anonymous connection, authenticated connection and the ip address instead of the server name in the path connection. There is no way to connect to the OPC UA server and I was asking myself if this feature is really supported for the runtime version used. Another strange thing I noted, is that is not possible to quickly create an OPC UA certificate in the Security Screen, as show in any tutorials. I have correctly created the Symbol Configuration enabling the OPC UA feature. I attach to this topic some printscreen of the actual configuration (sorry for the italian language interface, but I didn't find the way to switch to english). Thank you very much in advance for your support and advices!

Hi, I have a project currently in development, it has a number of Ethernet/IP devices (18 adapter devices with Codesys as scanner, another scanner device with codesys as adapter). This has been stable whilst on factory floor for several months (though prior to that I did have some Ethernet/IP issues which were resolved by adjusting RPI rates). Today I tried updating to Ethernet /IP 4.6.0 from 4.5.1, subsequent to this I had 2 exceptions in a 2 hour period, I reverted to 4.5.1 and have had no further exceptions. Note I do have a device (Zebra printer) that frequently times out and reconnects, this does not seem to cause any issues in operation and does not cause any exceptions with 4.5.1. I believe the root cause of this is on the Zebra side, however there does not seem to be any adjustment I can make to prevent the time outs. Information from device log is in screenshot attached.

Dear Codesys Support Team, I hope this message finds you well. I am currently working on a project that involves using a Hilscher CIFX card to act as an EtherCAT master within the CODESYS environment. Despite following the available documentation and setup guides, I have encountered some challenges and require assistance to ensure proper configuration and operation. Questions: 1- Could you please confirm if the Hilscher CIFX card is supported as an EtherCAT master in CODESYS? If so, are there specific drivers or configuration files that need to be installed? 2- Are there detailed setup guides or example projects available that demonstrate the integration of Hilscher CIFX cards with CODESYS for EtherCAT communication? 3- Is there any additional software or plugins required for ensuring seamless communication between the CIFX card and the EtherCAT slaves within CODESYS? Your support and guidance on these matters would be greatly appreciated, as it is crucial for the success of our project. Thank you for your time and assistance. I look forward to your prompt response. Best regards, TB

Hello, I'm relatively new to PLC programming. I am trying to creat a ramp down function, I have an example here of what I am using. I can get the function to work, the issue is that the OUT (variable3) value is being held by the FB so after I use it once it no longer works. In this example i set variable3 to 100 and the rest is as seen, over the course of a minute it ramped down to 10 (as desired). But when I deenergize TEST_START, set variable3 back to 100, and then re-energize TEST_START it immediately jumps back to the previously held value 10. The reset on this block just pauses the function and holds the last OUT. In my case I will need the function to start OUT at a set value, ramp down to the IN (variable2) value, and then accept a new OUT value to ramp down next time the block is energized. Hopefully this made sense, if anyone has any advice that would be awesome!

Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with my problem. I am new to programming and am currently working with a WAGO controller in our lab, which controls a heat pump. My goal is to send the electrical power of the heat pump (Pel_WP) via a UDP connection to a specific IP address. I am using Codesys version 2.3 and following the guide I found here: https://forge.codesys.com/forum/de/396/genmed-Konfiguration%20der%20UDP%20Kommunikation%20Cosesys%20S7.pdf. I have adapted the guide to suit my needs. The data sending works since I can force the reception value Pel_WP and the data is sent accordingly. However, I am having trouble with the receiving part. The reception value is not being correctly received, and the diSocket variable shows -1. The connection between the heat pump and the WAGO controller seems to be set up correctly, as the heat pump is listed under the communication parameters with the correct IP address. I have also attached images to provide a better view of the setup. I would greatly appreciate any support or suggestions for a solution. Thank you in advance!

Post by sturmghost on Mimic behavior of the visualization button element with a custom button
CODESYS Forge

(Post)
Im wondering how Codesys is doing the mouse event capturing with their visualization button element? If you add such a button without configuring any input configuration event (like OnMouseDown) or button state variable and then click on the button, the button changes to the visual pressed state and back if you release the button (so they must react to an OnMouseDown event). But how? If I try to mimic this behavior with my custom button visualization element (like a basic rectangle) I need to use an input configuration event to change the color of the button (to make it look like the button was pressed on OnMouseDown event). When I try to add this button via a Frame-Element to my main visualization page I'm unable to use an input configuration event on the Frame-Element because the input configuration event on the button element won't be evaluated anymore (it seems like you can't stack input fields, e.g. invisible input elements, onto each other). Hence the button is not shown pressed anymore. How they do it?

Hi I am trying to use STRUCT to parse commands from Modbus/TCP, Modbus client will fill the bytes related to a specific command (type, parameters), then PLC (Codesys) will access the command parameters. A STRUCT will simplify a lot the process of parsing the data, so I don't need to parse byte per byte, address will be mapped to a struct and I can use it for parsing the data. From what I understood, the compiler does not allow me to specify the location of the struct for a %MW register. VAR_COMMAND AT %MW1002: structGenericModbusCommand; This will throw: Bad declaration, use '%ML' for 'structGenericModbusCommand' variable But If I change it to %ML, when you go online you see that it is actually allocating the struct in another memory address. When we go online, on GVL we can see: VAR_COMMAND. structGenericModbusCommand %ML1002 commandType COMMANDTYPE %MB8016 ... %MB8020 I am not specifying a pointer or a reference it is a struct type, why is it mapping to a %MW location (random one). How can I control where it is mapping to? I need a consistent way to map STRUCT to specific modbus address. Is it possible? Thanks, Paulo Note I am using a Codesys OEM: Schneider Machine Expert Logic Builder (M241)

And if bool is true, it will give the output as real or int. I don't know but I need something like this. Actually, it is not exactly like that. In other words, it will not show the real value at the input at the output after a certain period of time. I want it to show the real value from 2 seconds ago continuously. The purpose of doing this is to compare the real value I received with the value from 2 seconds ago and find out whether it went up or down. I am using only FBD. Please help me with this. Thank you @TimvH It is clear that licences are application based and now thanks to your reply I could understand the meaning of RT systems. The RT called "CODESYS Control for Linux ARM SL" can be deployed on a generic debian based ARM system. The RT called "CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL" is more specific for Rasberry HW. Did I understand correctly? Regarding the RT called "CODESYS Virtual Control SL" despite its description it is not clear to me when to use it. It seems that a project created using such RT system can be deployed on any HW. It sound good obviously, as it means that it is possible to realize a completely abstract project from its hardware. The only limit could be represented by the need of using a specific HW or OS feature, in that case a more specific RT system should be chosen. Is my last consideration correct? Regards Rossano

This explanation aligns with the issues we’re experiencing with our machines. The scenario I described is happening with one of them (let’s call it Machine A). This machine is identical to another one (Machine B), except for some custom code that facilitates communication with an external Beckhoff PLC for MES integration in the production line. Machine B has been powered on and off daily for at least three months and has never had this problem. Given that, I highly doubt the MES custom code is the cause of the code corruption. This being said, your explanation does seem plausible. However, if faulty EtherCAT cables were the issue, why wouldn't the error occur during normal operation? Why would bad cables only cause problems during a hard shutdown? One last question: When you encountered this behavior, did you see a similar error in your logs? i.e, an "AccessViolation" exception in the EtherCAT Task?

Hi, For a project I am using the trendmanager functionality, I changed the placeholder filepath to which the SQL database is saved to: home/disk_usb, $trend$. Which only works as long as the usb was mounted to the PLC at boot. However, I'd like to be able to switch the USB's out if they break or for data analysis. However when a new (or the same) USB is plugged back in the shortcut doens't exist on the device anymore. Also in the device directory under root/mnt/ a new folder appears SDB1 in addition to SDA1 to which the Trendmanager was originally writing. The SDA1 folder is empty/unreachable while the new SDB1 folder has the contents of the USB drive. I tried disabling the trendmanger while unplugging the USB's however this doesn't work. My question, how do I make it so that when I plug a USB drive back in, it will be mounted to SDA1 instead of SDB1? Kind Regards

Hello all, I am using the OPC UA server with my custom information model. I have used the communication manager to add my information model under my application and created instances from OPC UA types. I see that the created instances in the OPC UA server has some opaque nodeid (attached screenshot) and I want to change that. Therefore I have the following questions: 1. Is there a way to configure the NodeIds of instances in the OPC UA server? I tried to edit it using the UaExpert client but got error "BadNotWriteable". is it possible to configure it somewhere so that the nodeids can be changed using an external client? 2. Is there a way to define the rule for creating instance nodeids within the codesys IDE? 3. Is it possible to create the instances before e.g. using a modelling tool like UaModeler and import them as part of the information model and use them later? Using the communication manager, I can only create instances from types. I couldn't find a way to map my existing instances to plc tags from my application. It would be nice if someone could help me with these issues. Thanks in advance. :)

To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
