Hello, I’m working on implementing Modbus RTU communication with a Carel controller (CPCO). I want to use the front RS485 interface through the DB9 connector. The issue is that I can’t get the communication working correctly. Below are the steps I’ve done so far: Connected pins 3 and 8 from the DB9 connector to the +/- RX/TX terminals on the Carel side. In the PLC shell, I set serialmode to RS485. In WBM under Administration > Serial Interface > Assign owner of serial interface, I set the port to unassigned. In the device tree, I created Modbus_COM with the following settings: COM port: 1 Baud rate: 19200 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Created a Modbus client on this COM interface in RTU mode. Under the status tab, I can see it is in running state. On the client, I created a Modbus server and set the Modbus address of my unit to 1. Defined a few channels as FC03 to read holding registers according to the Carel register map. I checked the communication with the Carel controller using a USB-to-RS485 converter connected to my PC, and communication works correctly there. In the status tab, I can see that the Modbus server is polling, but there is no response from the controller. I also tried multiple times swapping A/B lines on the Carel side, but it did not help. Do you have any suggestions on what else I should check?

Setup: Net Base Services (NBS), TCP_Client + TLSContext, ePurpose := CLIENT_SIDE, connecting to a third-party embedded device (Velux KLF200 home automation gateway) whose factory-installed TLS certificate expired on 2026-07-12 and has no user-facing renewal path. Tested on both CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi SL (3.5.19.0) and CODESYS Control Win V3 x64, with identical results on both. Goal: Accept the peer's expired certificate via a custom ICertificateVerifier implementation, since the certificate itself can never be replaced. Implementation: FUNCTION_BLOCK FB_MyCertVerifier IMPLEMENTS NBS.ICertificateVerifier VAR udiCallCount : UDINT; aeCurStateLog : ARRAY[0..9] OF NBS.RTS_IEC_RESULT; END_VAR METHOD VerifyCertificate : UDINT VAR_INPUT hCert : NBS.RTS_IEC_HANDLE; eCurState : NBS.RTS_IEC_RESULT; END_VAR IF udiCallCount < 10 THEN aeCurStateLog[udiCallCount] := eCurState; END_IF udiCallCount := udiCallCount + 1; VerifyCertificate := 0; // also tried: VerifyCertificate := eCurState; Wired in via tlsContext.itfCertVerifer := certVerifier at declaration time, alongside itfTLSContext := tlsContext set at TCP_Client's own declaration (per an earlier forum thread here on ensuring inline start-values on FB-typed variables are actually honored when nested one level deep - that fix was needed and worked correctly for getting the handshake to start at all). Observed: - VerifyCertificate is confirmed called exactly once per connection attempt (via the call counter above). - eCurState passed in = 0x709 = ERR_CERT_HAS_EXPIRED - correctly reflecting the actual state of the peer's certificate. - Packet capture confirms the full TLS 1.2 handshake completes correctly at the wire level: ClientHello -> ServerHello -> Certificate -> ServerKeyExchange -> ServerHelloDone -> our ClientKeyExchange/ChangeCipherSpec/Finished -> server's ChangeCipherSpec/Finished. Both sides successfully complete the cryptographic handshake. - Despite this, TCP_Client.Upgrade() subsequently returns NBS.ERROR.CONNECTION_ERROR, and the connection is torn down with a plain TCP FIN (not a TLS alert) roughly 7-8ms after our side ACKs the server's Finished message. - TCP_Client.eErrorID (inherited from LCon) remains NO_ERROR throughout - the failure is only visible via Upgrade()'s return value. - Returning 0 (ERR_OK/ERR_CERT_OK - confirmed via the CmpErrors2 Interfaces documentation that these are literally the same value) makes no difference. - Echoing eCurState back unchanged (on the theory that this callback might work like mbedTLS's native verify callback, where the incoming state is a flags value to be cleared/modified and returned, rather than paired with a separate fixed "accept" sentinel) also makes no difference. - Identical result across udiVerificationMode := 0, 1, and 2. - Importing the peer's certificate into the runtime's trusted certificate store via cert-import trusted makes no difference either. - With itfCertVerifer left at its default (no custom verifier) and udiVerificationMode := 2, the underlying engine sends its own fatal TLS alert (handshake_failure) immediately after receiving the peer's Certificate message - suggesting built-in validation may reject at the record layer independent of whether a custom verifier is even present. Questions: 1. Is there an additional step required for a custom ICertificateVerifier to actually override an ERR_CERT_HAS_EXPIRED (or more generally, any ERR_CERT_*) rejection, or is certificate validation enforced unconditionally for a CLIENT_SIDE TLSContext regardless of what the verifier returns? 2. Is 0/ERR_OK genuinely the correct "accept" return value for VerifyCertificate, or does it expect something else (a specific bit pattern, a different constant, a value that must be computed from hCert itself)? 3. Is there a supported way to connect to a peer presenting a certificate that is both self-signed and expired, short of the peer issuing a new certificate? Happy to share the full packet captures or additional test combinations if useful. Also worth noting for anyone finding this thread later: a maintained Node-RED library for this same device (node-red-contrib-velux-klf200, forked to handle this exact expired-certificate situation) solves it by disabling built-in TLS validation entirely (rejectUnauthorized: false) and doing fingerprint-based pinning by hand after the handshake completes, rather than relying on a validation callback - which may be the more realistic approach here too if ICertificateVerifier genuinely can't override this class of rejection. Thanks in advance /Jørgen Disclosure: most of the CODESYS code and this investigation was developed with the help of Claude (Anthropic's AI assistant) - the state machine design, SLIP/checksum implementation, and debugging methodology (including the packet capture analysis) were worked through in an extended back-and-forth with it. Posting here because we've run out of self-serviceable options and this now looks like it needs input from someone with visibility into NBS's actual implementation.

Good day, I’m writing this message out of frustration regarding the current way project files are saved as encrypted XML and single-file format in CODESYS. I find this approach to be quite tedious for several reasons: Limited Access to Structured Text: Not being able to access Structured Text (ST) externally makes it impossible to work with alternative editors like VSCode. Tools like VSCode are incredibly responsive and feature advanced systems such as GitHub Copilot, which would be a real game-changer when working with ST IEC. While CODESYS works well for small code snippets or debugging, when the codebase grows, switching to VSCode to boost productivity becomes essential, and copy-pasting between environments is a cumbersome workaround. Poor Integration with Git: This file format also makes it very difficult to integrate effectively with Git. I have tested the internal demo, but for advanced merges, it is unusable. Without properly formatted plain text, it’s impossible to leverage the vast ecosystem of external tools around Git that allow smooth merges in heterogeneous teams. File Corruption on Network Drives: I often work from multiple locations with shared network drives. When the development environment saves a file and something goes wrong midway (which can occasionally happen when using VPNs and network drives), the entire project becomes irrecoverable. There’s no way to cancel the save process, and the development environment freezes. This has happened to me at least four times over the past two weeks, and one of those incidents cost me an entire day of work. All of this is particularly disappointing because I truly believe that the libraries, runtime, and overall work done by CODESYS are exceptional. I find it fantastic that there is a platform allowing development of PLCs and control systems using OOP, which is a huge advantage in modern control engineering. Dear forum, I currently have a big question mark above my head, and maybe this forum can shine some light on the situation. I recently updated to Codesys 3.15 SP19 Patch 6. And now I’m trying to setup the OPC-UA server, besides that I’m trying to connect to the controller with the Codesys V3 (Ethernet) protocol. OPC-UA I have installed the correct licenses on my controller (Runtime and communication). I’m able to connect to the controller with an OPC-UA client, and I’m able to browse the tags, so far so good. Therefore I’m assuming that the OPC-UA server is running on the controller. But now the strange part, in the device security settings I have set the communication Policy to BASCI256SHA256 ( I also have tried the other ones) and the communication mode is set to secure if possible (I also have tried all the other ones) (see picture). With these settings I would assume that I would only be able to login with a Basic256SHA256 policy with a client. But the opposite is true, I am able to login using the no policy mode and when I set it to Basic256SHA256 the client (UA-Expert) notes that this policy is not available on the server. I then check the certificates and I noted that there is no certificate for the OPC-UA server, I tried to generate one but it gave the error that the certificate has not been created by the device (See picture). To summarize I have no clue what is going on, and the controller does the opposite of what I would expect. Codesys Ethernet V3 driver I have a HMI connected to the same controller using the Ethernet V3 driver. But this will not connect. I tried all the Protocols (see picture), with and without the username and password enabled. But it will not connect, when I scan the available servers I can see the controller with the port number that I am expecting, so I’m assuming that the Codesys V3 ethernet driver is up on the controller. Does anyone can give me some direction, because the stuff that I tried doesn’t make sense to me. Thank you in advance

Dear Forum, I'm currently experimenting with Modbus interfaces in combination with a virtual controller. I have the following setup (Modbus_Setup.png): I have an IPC with Debian installed on it (Debian 13). On this Debian machine I have installed a docker server and on this docker server a Codesys runtime container is deployed (Codesys_image.png). The Modbus scanner makes connection with and IO coupler and this works well. But when I physically disconnect the ethernet connection between the IPC and the IO coupler the Modbus interface gets stuck in a state where it gets stuck in the busy state (Modbus_Stuck.png). When I plug the cable back in, the IO coupler isn't communicating until the xBusy variable is manually set to False, after this action is performed the communication goes back to normal. I have tried to set the container network to host and bridge (Network.png), but both version gives the same result (stuck scanner). I would expect that the Modbus interface is generating a timeout after 1 sec, because this is how it is setup (Modbus_settings.png), but this is not what happens. I have thought to write a piece of code that writes xBusy to false when it is stuck but because it is an output I'm not able to write to it. I have tried this with another PC (different CPU/motherboard) but this gives the same outcome. I tried updating to the latest version of Virtual control (4.20) but this gives the same result. I also tried to do the same thing with an ethernet IP scanner, and this gives an error after the timeout is expired (so this works well). I have tried to connect to the IO coupler using the Modbus_FB lib (Modbus_FB.png) the FB's are giving the correct errors and behaving as expected. At last I have tried to use a Scanner on a Codesys controller (no IPC) and here the scanner behaves as expected (an alarm is triggered after the timeout has been expired). The version of the Codesys components are listed in the picture Versions.png Is there anyone that can give me a push in the right direction? Kind regards Alex

I've trimmed down the CAA Serial Codesys example to only listen on one port but, when stepping through the Case structure in debug mode, it jumps out of the structure during a specific point in every scan (I'll point it out below after describing the setup and listing the code). I'm using a Pi 4 Model B, and I have an Arduino Nano Every plugged in via USB which is streaming the following serial message at 1 Hz: Time since opening connection: 1 s Time since opening connection: 2 s ...and so on. I'm forcing xStartTest:=TRUE every scan so that I can step into each line and observe what's happening. What I see is that the port parameters are set and the port is opened with no errors, but the code jumps out of the case structure to the last line every time it reaches (and I step into) the iState:=15 line (at the end of the iState:=0 block). So every scan cycle it goes through the block for iState=0 and jumps out at the same spot. I'm a little new to PLC programming so I may be misunderstanding the flow, but shouldn't this case structure keep moving down in the same scan? If it only handles one case per scan, why doesn't the value of iState persist? Thanks! Update: I restarted the Codesys control today and I was then able to see an error for como1.eError of "WRONG_PARAMETER". I tried doing some digging and another post made me think I should add another line to CODESYSControl_User.cfg, so I now have: [SysCom] Linux.Devicefile=/dev/ttyACM portnum := COM.SysCom.SYS_COMPORT1 So now when I set .udiPort to 1, I get "NO_ERROR" but I also don't read anything from the port (i.e. szRead = 0 always). If I try setting the port to 0 (which I'm confused about, because I added a COMPORT1 line but the device shows on the Pi as ACM0), I get the "WRONG_PARAMETER" error again. Is there an easier way to troubleshoot the Pi and view what ports the Codesys runtime is actually able to see while the Pi is running?

I used the PLCnext Engineer IDE from Phoenix and all Communications where up and running and my PLC program executed successfully. THEN I tried the same PLC Layout with Codesys and Codesys Control for PLCnext. It was not successful and gave me the "Error: Local Bus not Running". I searched the web for answers but was unsuccessful in finding a solution. So I tried to change my configuration and found that the following Modules COULD NOT be recognized by Codesys Control. Hello everyone, I have a very simple program for the process, but it's driving me crazy and I can't see the problems I'm left with: Short topological description: Dual Core Berghof controller with softmotion runtime version 3.5.19.30; Two axes with servodrive on canopen bus, clocked distributed from master; Ethercat I/O node; 2 ms ethercat task, 2 ms canopen bus cycle time; I/O objects of the canopen master and canopen drives connected to the ethercat task cycle; Problem 1: Two separate programs each manage their own axis and drive, with separate state machines. A first axis moves primarily in velocity, except having to position itself absolutely at a predetermined point at the end of the job; the second axis, on the other hand, is a paper unwinder that changes, for each job cycle, from actions in absolute, relative, and cam displacement with the master axis. But it gives me a spot problem: in some, the state change results in a drive error, which is unrecoverable except with a reinitialization via SM3_ReinitDrive(). I tried doing the machine state exchange not with the bDone bit of the FBs, but with the 'standstill' state of the axis. It didn't seem to change anything. Problem 2: During the use SM3_ReinitDrive() I get the erro in the log: "NetID 0: SDO read error for object 16#607C..." Assuming that the device involved it's one of the two servodrive, (no others device are present in the network), I don't found any object 0x607C in the 'possible object list in/out' of the two drive, and I don't understand where this object can be listed. So any ideas and suggestions regarding these two issues will be very, very welcome. If you need the source project, I am willing to send it.

Aufgrund einer Schnittstellenänderung muss ich meine Messagebuffer erheblich vergrößern. U.g. Konstante bestimmt die Größe einer Byte-Array-Definition, die in einer Struktur für 9 Botschaften verwendet wird. Ich benötige also 177372byte zusätzlichen Speicher in dem Modul in dem die Struktur als lokale Variable angelegt wird. Dynamisches Allokieren zur Laufzeit möchte ich vermeiden, damit ich nicht während des Betriebes Fehler aus dem Allokieren behandeln muss. Für ein Reservieren des Speicherbereiches habe ich in Codesys keine Einstellmöglichkeiten gefunden. Die Applikation läßt sich ohne weitere Modifikation kopilieren, scheitert aber bei der Ausführung. Welche Lösungs- oder Einstellmöglichkeiten gibt es?
