Hello together I'm currently investing in possibilities to have a central engineering software / system for Codesys based controllers. Something like a DCS / SCADA depending on where you see the functionality. We plan to use more or less vanilla codesys. The tool should support the following: - Connect to multiple PLC's in a project to see its variables and debug it. - Central Engineering capabilities (for example shared libraries in a project). - Download the new code / binaries to the plc. - Maybe have functionality to combine visualization elements and logic together. - See the live status variables on all the systems (crosscommunication). I see that codesys theoretically supports engineering of multiple PLC's, but I couldnt find to much functionality for a DCS type of operation, but that could be lack of knowledge. Any tips from you? Is Codesys good enough for this and maybe there are some manufacturers which build around it? Or are there good tools on the market with Codesys support (and the engineering is separate, but download to codesys possible). The use case is distributed energy installations like Heating pumps, Photovoltaics, etc. All these installations should have a PLC with codesys installed and run in one larger network, the PLC's are connected via VPN. I am trying to implement a mechanism to send alarm SMS. For this, I have created an Alarm Class with a Notification Action which calls a POU. This POU implements IAlarmNotifiable making it selectable in the Alarm Class configuration. IAlarmNotifiable has an Execute method which is called by the alarm class. Now, I want to extract the alarm message of the triggered alarm. The Execute method comes with a VAR_INPUT itfAlarm: AlarmManager.IAlarm which supplies a method called GetMessage. The help text says: Returns the message text, that has been configured for the alarm. The result is a pointer to the buffer, where the message text is stored The type of the result is CharBufferPtr, and at some place I read that it can be interpreted as a pointer to string. But I cannot manage to extract the alarm message, all I get are numbers. I have tried the following: psAlarmText := itfAlarm.GetMessage(__SYSTEM.TYPE_CLASS.TYPE_STRING)^; sAlarmText := TO_STRING( itfAlarm.GetMessage(__SYSTEM.TYPE_CLASS.TYPE_STRING)^ ); So how do I get access to the alarm message as clear text? Hello there, I am new here and in programming. I need help with the basics. I am trying to do what I mentioned in the title. I have an analog input. So I have a real or integer data type value. I want to delay it. TON and TOF only work with bool. I think there is a function block that has two inputs, 1 for real or int and 1 for bool. And if bool is true, it will give the output as real or int. I don't know but I need something like this. Actually, it is not exactly like that. In other words, it will not show the real value at the input at the output after a certain period of time. I want it to show the real value from 2 seconds ago continuously. The purpose of doing this is to compare the real value I received with the value from 2 seconds ago and find out whether it went up or down. I am using only FBD. Please help me with this. Is it possible to transmit a PDU1 PGN using the J1939 manager and local device? What if I need to transmit a PGN RQST via 0xEA00 (PGN 59904)? How would I do this P2P (Destination < 0xFF) or broadcast (Destination 0xFF)? I don't think this is possible for any destination type. I don't think it's possible to receive broadcast PDU1 messages either. For example, an address claim PGN 60928 (0x18EEFF80) is addressed to all nodes (0xFF) and not any specific local device so it will be filtered out. These are major oversights in the IoDrvJ1939 library to not support every PDU1 RX/TX scenario. IoDrvJ1939 supported scenario: 1. Receive (RX) PDU1 (P2P) destination-specific (PDU-specific < 255) to local device with matching address IoDrvJ1939 unsupported scenarios: 1. Receive (RX) PDU1 (P2P) global (PDU-specific = 255) 2. Transmit (TX) PDU1 (P2P) global (PDU-specific = 255) 3. Transmit (TX) PDU1 (P2P) destination-specific (PDU-specific < 255)

Hi, I would like to divide a project into multiple applications - as a minimum: one handling visualization and Alarm Manager, one handling I/O and plant control logic. But how to exchange variables between the applications? What have you done to get such a solution? In versions 3.5.19 and earlier, you can have Child applications, where the children can access a GVL in the Parent application. Children apps is no longer possible in 3.5.20 - but you can have 'sibling' apps - Several apps directly under PLC Logic, that is. But how do they best communicate? The Communication Manager / Data Sources Manager is sort of possible via OPC UA, but it seems like overkill and with some limitations - for example no ARRAY OF STRUCT possible this way. If you have separate devices in your project, you can exchange data via 'CODESYS ApplicationV3', but not other applications in the same device (see attachment Datasources.png). You can do it via 'Select the project type'->'Other Project' and select the same project file, but this leads to crashing the Development system when working with the variables afterwards. It would be great to hear your thoughts / experiences on this topic - Bjarne

Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

Hello Everyone, The "Auto Declare" window disappears by itself in the Ladder editor. For example, a new function block is wanted to be added to the Ladder editor. (For example; MC_Jog block and instance name will be fbMcJog). To do this, "Empty box with EN/ENO" is added to the ladder line from the Toolbox on the right and when you type MC_Jog in the empty box and press enter, normally the "Auto Declare" window appears and you are expected to be asked to write the instance name here. However, this "Auto Declare" window closes itself immediately, it does not wait for the user to enter a value or close the window. I often encounter this situation in many IDE versions. Does this seem like a bug? If anyone has encountered a similar problem while creating a new program name, function or function block instance name regarding the "Auto Declare" window and knows a solution, I would be glad if you could share it. Strangely reminds me to my struggles... Want to do something "Elegant", reusable, universal, practical... In CODESYS??? 🙃 First of all, before you get too deep into this: If you could find a way, to make a "universal" log entry object, containing the variable length data itself, you wouldn't be able to store them in an array, or access them like an array, or pass them by value as a type. (please correct me, if I'm wrong, incorrect, or not precise). Because... Basically you can't declare a type with variable memory footprint. This is a very deeply embedded characteristic of CODESYS, and all IEC 61131-3 systems, and it has many reasons behind. And yes, it is a very common trap / mistake, to forget about. So, with a log entry - I guess - it's pretty much the purpose: store data and metadata together, and then handle it in a uniform way. There are ways to handle this, really depends on what is the purpose. For example: 1. Entries with fixed length (Maybe it is not as evil as it looks for the first time. Depends on the situation, but definitely the fastest and easiest code) You can have your base object, with an internal, fixed length string or byte array variable. I would go with a string, and call it _Data.; And then you can make properties, like As_Bool, As_Int, As_Real... In the 'set' accessors, you can do like: pReal := ADR(_Data); // POINTER TO REAL As_Real := pReal^; In the 'get' accessors, evidently: pReal := ADR(_Data); // POINTER TO REAL pReal^ := AS_Real; Or, can use ANY type, if you are not obsessed with variable / property like access: 2. Fixed length, but nicer First, some disadvantage to any values: - You can only assign values with write access. If you really want to do entries with variable size In a standard environment, it would be similar to the previous, except you dont have the container variable _Data, just use a pointer, practically _Descr.pValue At Initialize (SET_Value), you have to allocate the memory, would be easy with SysMem.SysMemAlloc - nowadays with SysMem.SysMemAllocData -, and you make sure to release it after use with SysMem.SysMemFreeData... SysMemAlloc was already hidden. The problem with this, that sooner or later your application will totally fragment the dynamic memory, and fail... So should look for some form of dynMaybe MemUtils.MemoryManager (I am not sure what is the status and the future of it). 4. You will end up by a LogEntry Factory ... 5. You could still have a look at this IEC Snippets BTW, Standard Codesys Logger is not a bad choice either. If you are really interested, I share some more code / library.

Using Codesys 3.5.18.30 I am trying to work with an array of variable length in one dimension, but known in the other dimension. For example, using an array that represents a list of items, each with an attribute profile. I do not know how many items will be in the list, but I know that every item has 5 attributes, like size, weight, etc. Codesys does not seem to be able to accept this. I have referenced Data Type: ARRAY OF documentation page, which is not explicit if variable & fixed length array dimensions can be mixed. In the VAR_IN_OUT scope, I initially tried MY_ARRAY : ARRAY [*, *] OF REAL; which was no problem, of course. I then modified it to MY_ARRAY : ARRAY [*, 1..5] OF REAL; which throws C0006: ', or ]' expected instead of '..' among consequent downstream errors. I then used the Auto Declare -> Array Wizard, which accepted (asterisk)-(asterisk) and 1-5 for 2-dimensional lower and upper bounds. It output: MY_ARRAY: ARRAY[*..*, 1..6] OF INT; which throws the same error stream. What's the deal here? Is this possible?

Note it is now part of Codesys IIoT Libraries SL in the form of Web Client SL, but I am not using this version. I was sending Content-Type: application/json, HTTP POST using a HTTPS URL. No issue observed initially, successful operation. At some point operation stopped and the codesyscontrol.log file started to accumulate errors: ERROR: TlsCreateContext2: Failed to save context. An application reset failed to resume operation and I was unable observe any TCP connection forming to a destination port 443. The error appeared as a TCP_INIT error. I can find no details as to what may have happened or why a reset of the PLC application did not resume operation. Testing with a curl operation proved to be successful, so I am confident there was no fundamental networking issue preventing a TCP connection forming. The solution was to reboot the hardware itself, but this is not satisfactory in the long term. Is there any description of the TLS error I received? Is there any suggestion here that there might be an issue with certificates? Any advice or information is appreciated.

I am studying and developing a Softmotion+CNC system for a machine that executes multiple pieces. The G code program is written by the machine operator and each cycle execute 1 piece. The programs are large, exceeding 1000 lines and using up to 8 axes (X, Y, Z, A, B, C, P and Q). The machine needs to run cyclically, executing N pieces (selected by the Operator)... so I tested it using Looping and counters (G36 G37 and G20) and it worked, but it takes a long time to process, and the more pieces I need, the longer the processing time and this is totally impracticable. I found this solution which was very good, and for a few cycles it works well, but for 99999 pieces of a program with 1000 lines, it doesn't work very well... Another solution I tested is to maintain the interpolator with an automatic restart, that is, I load the program without looping (without G20) and give it another start as soon as it finishes. This partially resolved it, but there is still a delay in processing SMC_NCInterpreter in each restart :(. Another solution I thought of is to manually create the SMC_GEOINFO structure and then reuse it, avoinding the Interpreter, but reading the documentation and checking the structure filled by standard blocks, I noticed that there doesn't seem to be a "JUMP" function in the structure! In other words, the SMC_NCInterpreter actually keeps copying and copying the program section for each jump (G20)... If I repeat a 10-line program 1000 times, I will have a structure with more than 10000 lines... possibly this is the cause of take so long to process. Has anyone ever had a problem like this? I believe the same thing happens with typical applications with manipulator robots using Codesys in continuous cycles, and I would like to know if there is any solution, or even if I am misinterpreting the G20 question in SMC_GEOINFO. I have a J1939 network (ISOBUS) connected to my PLC. I can receive various PGNs such as 65256 (Vehicle Direction/Speed) and 65254 (Time/Date). However, I cannot receive 65267 (Vehicle Position). PGN 65267 (VP) contains SPN 584 (Latitude) and SPN 585 (Longitude). On the network both SPNs return a value of -210 (meaning the CAN message payload is zero in both cases). The conversion settings are the default values and appear to be correct (see attached screenshot). Using a CAN analyser I can see that PGN 65267 (Vehicle Position) is being transmitted over the network with valid (non-zero) data that matches the latitude and longitude coordinates I would expect. I've created a program to read the raw J1939 data and this also returns valid data. It seems that the Codesys J1939 database has a problem with reading PGN 65267 messages. Can anybody else confirm this? I'm using Codesys Version 3.5 SP16 Patch 5.

I'm using the JSON Utilities SL library to write configurations in my program to a file. I'm generating the JSON data using the builder function block and all appears to work correctly. When I write the jsondata to file, I'm finding that some of the JSON elements are not being written in the right location in the file. Rather than writing they keys under the parent object, they get written outside the root JSON object at the end of the file. If I then try to read the file back into the program, I get an invalid_structure error. I don't get any errors when populating the JSON data or when writing the file. I attached an example of the JSON writer output. The problems begin with key P200. Each P200 should go under MBR1 through MBR3. Among the rest of the keys, they are supposed to be under different parent objects. I am using default values for wsLineBreak and encoding.

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 we have been using for years to run CODESYS for development purposes. I recently have had to re-install the OS (Raspberry OS lite). The only change to the default configuration is not creating the "pi" user during install. I (apparently successfully) installed the 4.10.0.0 control on the Raspberry Pi. We have licences on a dongle. I am able to start the control. systemctl status shows it as running for a little while (exactly, precisely 30 seconds as per my tests, every time), then it becomes exited. I can restart the control, and the same thing happens again. Every time. In the brief moments it is running, I can log in to the PLC. Working fast and restarting the control many times, I have been able to configure users. I have been able to download my application. I have been able to run the application, and stop on a breakpoint. I have been able to connect with the licence manager and confirm the dongle is detected and licences are listed as OK. I see nothing wrong until the service just exits. I have found nothing in the logs. It is like the runtime just terminates with no error code or message after exactly 30 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.

As I wrote before on the title, I have difficulties to connect to see webvisu from localhost. The story: while waiting for the plc+hmi to arrive, I'm preparing the software, mainly the visual parts trough the control Win3 x64 (same version as the ide 3.5.20.10). The problem is that I can't see the webvisu with the installed webbrowser. I don't know if this is a problem, but I changed the port to 9001 (randomly "free") because 80, 8000, 8080, 8088, 3000 are all occupied by other projects (all on the Apache server). Is there something wrong with the config file? This is the url: localhost:9001/webvisu_app.htm and here the config file part "CmpWebServer". Recently we had an issue regarding some simple code to calculate a rolling average. The code indexes from zero to 199 to properly store the current input into a circular buffer which then allows us to calculate a rolling average: VAR input_5s : REAL; outs_arr : ARRAY[0..199] OF REAL; i : USINT := 0; END_VAR ___ //this code runs every five seconds, calculating a rolling average outs_arr[i] := input_5s; i := i + 1; output := OSCAT_BASIC.ARRAY_AVG(ADR(outs_arr), SIZEOF(outs_arr)); IF i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr) THEN i := 0; END_IF There is a simple bug in this code where the index will be set to 0 when it has surpassed the length of the array in bytes (800 in this case) rather than larger than the number of reals in the array (200). The solution here is simple, replacing i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr) with i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr)/SIZEOF(outs_arr[0]). In this example when the index increased to 201 and the line outs_arr[201] := input_5s was called, codesys arbitrarily wrote to the address in memory that is where outs_arr[201] would be if the array was that long. I would like to find a way to wrap the codesys array inside of a wrapper class that checks if an input is within the bounds of an array before writing to that value. I know how I would implement that for a specific array, I could create a method or class that takes an input of an array of variable length, ie. ARRAY[*] OF REAL, but I don't know how to make this for any data type. I am wondering if anyone has ever done anything similar to this, or has any better suggestions to ensure that none of the programmers on this application accidentally create code that can arbitrarily write to other locations in memory.

We have a few different communications set up as shown below: One Modbus TCP Slave Connection - ( Sending / Receiving Data from a PC ) Two Modbus TCP Master Connection - ( Reading Data from a UPS Panel and Reading Data Gas Chromatograph) One Modbus RTU Slave Connection 485 - (Reading Data from a fire and gas panel) One Modbus RTU Master Connection 485 - (Sending Data to a Telemetry Unit) All Licenses have been installed as per OPTO22 suggestions of the order below: Modbus TCP Master Modbus TCP Slave Modbus RTU Master Modbus RTU Slave When I check on License manager the RTU Master license seems to disappear on installing the RTU. (What ever reason I’ve been told this is “normal”). If I use Device License Read It will successfully read all the licenses correctly. Now the issue is every 2 hours and between 4. For what ever reason the communications seems to end and lock up for about 20 seconds. During this time even if I was logged into the PLC it would kick me off and I’d have to re type the password to enter. Most of the devices can handle this however the RTU flags up a communications failure at the SCADA and is raising alarms every 2 hours and 4 mins. We’ve had multiple people go through the code to check for anything obvious. Does anyone have any ideas?
