You're absolutely right. Sorry for that. In the meantime I wrote a Function block to handle the reads and writes to the different attached RTU-devices. It processes the parameter like (str_Modbus:=(usiSlave:=1, uiFC:=5, uiLEN:=1, uiOFFSET:=0, uiInterval:=500)) and the corresponding output, waits for the response and processes next request in a 5-state procedure. It's working for 2 gateways (stable without errors, although error recovery is included). But nevertheless it should be possible with the Channel definitions of Codesys. Much easier to maintain :)

I want to programmatically write the alias address to a new EtherCAT slave when I plug it into my IPC EtherCAT network. I am looking at the ReadWriteEEprom FB and see that one of the elements is "pbyData". which is the pointer to byte that is usually set to 2048 bytes. Since I am setting the alias address to the EEprom only (EEprom address 16#0012), I would assume that what I am writing is 2 bytes only. Does the pbyData have to be specified as ADR(myArray) where "myArray" is the 2 bytes of the alias address? How is the best way to set this element of the function block? Thanks in advance

Hello. I have a task to synchronize the movement of two axes and maintain the distance between them. First axe makes equal steps by trigger using MC_MoveRelative function. The second one is standstill and after another signal should catch up the first one from its position to a specified distance and keep it. I've tried to use MC_Phasing and mostly it works. Second axis catches up the first and starts make step with it. But in one moment this axis can crash into the first and there is no clear connection as to why this is happening. It can work correct for a day or for a week.

Dear josepmariarams, this (internal) function has been removed with SoftMotion 4.17.0.0. We do not have public functions to compute the extrema of a polynomial. On which polynomials exactly did you call SMC_Polynomial_AbsMaxLocs? (Maybe if I understand better how you limit the jerk I can come up with an alternative.) There is no functionality to limit the jerk of individual axes in the CNC. With SMC_LimitDynamics, you can limit the velocity and acceleration of cartesian (X/Y/Z) and additional (P/Q/U/V/W/A/B/C) axes, but not the jerk. And with a quadratic ramp type you can limit the jerk on the path. Best regards, Georg

Yes, it's very tedious, especially since Codesys 4 is a custom web development... At Rex Automatisierungstechnik GmbH, we've invested a lot of time in the Python interface to enable something like CI/CD, but also to export the code and re-import it after making clean modifications. Dear @gseidel, Thank you for your clarification. I fully agree that the quadratic ramp type may have certain technical advantages. However, the main problem is backward compatibility and consistency across projects. In many automation projects, application developers rely on the fact that creating a new axis object will behave exactly the same way as in previous versions. With SoftMotion V4.18.0.0 and later, if an application developer adds an axis and overlooks the changed default, the motion function blocks behave differently than expected. In particular, since the Jerk value in SM3_Basic function blocks is ineffective in trapezoid ramp type, users are accustomed to leaving this parameter empty in their projects. In many existing projects, this variable has not even been assigned. When the default is changed to quadratic, the Jerk parameter suddenly becomes relevant, which can cause errors or unexpected behaviour in the field. From a user perspective, a default setting should always be the “safe” and “expected” option, while alternative options (like quadratic) can be selected manually if desired. Keeping the default as trapezoid ensures compatibility with existing projects and prevents unexpected issues, while still allowing users to benefit from quadratic ramps if they explicitly choose so. For these reasons, I kindly ask you to reconsider making trapezoid the default again. This would significantly reduce the risk of unexpected behaviour in future projects while still preserving the advantages of the quadratic ramp type for those who actively select it. Goal: to have the ability to navigationally add internal Objects (Methods, Properties) to Function Blocks from the keyboard without using the mouse. The Codesys environment interface does not allow Windows access to this via Shift+F10. Externally (outside the Codesys environment), the hotkey call for the context menu (Shift+F10) from the keyboard works in various environments, but at the same time, in Codesys it does not (it doesn't work). I have already tried various options on my own to achieve this (but unsuccessfully): Tools\Customize\Keyboard\Objects (the set combination does not give the desired result) Tools\Customize\Keyboard\Objects... (the set combination is extremely useful as it provides access to adding objects directly to Devices but does not provide the ability to add an internal object (Method/Property) to a Function Block). Hello all I use an axis group with two linear axes in a kinematic system. Using MC_MoveLinearAbsolute and MC_MoveLinearRelative, I am trying to realise dynamic movements (set velocity: 1 m/s, set acceleration: 30 m/s^2) with the highest possible jerk, as I want to compare this with a movement with a trapezoidal velocity profile. However, my measurements show that the axes accelerate with a maximum jerk of approx. 800 m/s^3, even if the value in the function block was set to 10,000 m/s^3. I have already increased the dynamic limits of the two axes accordingly (Velocity: 5000 u/s, Acc-/Deceleration: 250'000 u/s^2, Jerk: 100'000'000 u/s^3, where 1 u = 1 mm), but this had no effect. I have checked the input parameters of the function blocks and the VelFactor, AccFactor and JerkFactor factors are all set to the maximum (value 1). Reducing the cycle time has resulted in a higher jerk, but as we are already working with a cycle time of 1 ms, there is nothing more that can be done here. The axes themselves are still a long way from drawing the maximum current, which is why I assume that this should not be a problem either. Are there other factors or parameters that influence the dynamic limits and therefore allow faster movements? The PLC I am using is a Raspberry Pi 4 and Codesys V3.5 SP20 with all libraries up to date. Thanks in advance Manuel

I don't have time to go through the whole manual but as I said earlier, the servo drive does not support any of the modes needed for SoftMotion Light to work. If you want to use the full SoftMotion, you could use SMC_Homing function block to do the homing. This function block does not use the Homing Mode. It still uses the CSP mode and does the logic in Codesys runtime instead of in the servo drive. Read the documentation about it to see if it fits your needs. But if your controller only supports SoftMotion Light, I am afraid you will not be able to use the i950. I do a lot of motion stuff with different servo brands. Some support all the modes needed for SoftMotion Light and some don't. You really need to make sure the modes are supported before choosing a brand over another. I tend not to use brand specific controllers in order not to be limited by their supported features. I usually choose a PC (Linux or Windows) and install the Codesys runtime and licences myself. This is the most flexible way to use Codesys in my opinion. Depending on how many axes are needed in your project, a full SoftMotion license may not be more expensive than SoftMotion Light because SoftMotion is available as Application based license whereas SoftMotion Light is not. But of course, SoftMotion is harder on the CPU than SoftMotion Light.

In my machine's operation, I need to display multiples tables containing arrays of structured variables. The arrays change during operation, and my supervisor has advised me to write a new bubble-sort for each array. I think I can make a function to sort an array of any data type. This was my own project, and I'm a relatively new coder. I want to know the weaknesses in my approach, and a better method, if one exists. Hello, I am facing a problem with the new Softmotion 4.17.0.0 version. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, what is the solution? I would be happy if you could share it. Problem description: -- "SMC_FreeEncoder" encoder axis is the master, -- The motor of the servo driver on the EtherCAT bus is the slave axis. -- When the MC_CamIn block executed, the InSync output is activated. However, although the master encoder axis position value changes, there is no movement in the slave servo axis! Test steps: 1-) EtherCAT servo axis installed, configured and motion test was performed with MC_Jog. No problem. 2-) Softmotion general axis pool > SMC_FreeEncoder was added and pulse amount configuration was performed. No problem. 3-) Incremental encoder actual count value was transferred to the "SMC_FreeEncoder.diEncoderPosition" variable as DINT under the ethercat task in every cycle and the encoder axis position value was observed. No problem. 4-) A simple CAM table with a 1:1 ratio was created under the project tree. (For example: Simply, when the encoder rotates 1 turn, the motor will rotate 1 turn.) 5-) The SMC_FreeEncoder axis enabled with MC_Power and brought to the StandStill state. 6-) The MC_CamTableSelect block was run with default input values (all absolute) and only the Cam table name was specified. The Done output was seen successfully. No problem. 7-) The MC_CamIn block was activated with default input values (absolute) and only the master encoder axis name, slave servo axis name, CamTableID input pins was specified and then "Execute" input set to TRUE. 8-) The InSync output information of the MC_CamIn block observed as TRUE. However, although the encoder axis value changed, the position value of the slave axis did not change at all, it did not move. It always remained at 0.0mm. 9-) When I repeated the same steps above, only changing the master axis to SM_Drive_Virtual instead of FreeEncoder and gave movement to the virtual axis, this time the slave axis moved successfully. However, when the same steps and operations are performed with the same IDE just downgrade SoftMotion version from 4.17.0.0 to 4.10.0.0, everything works normally and without problems as expected in MC_CamIn block with FreeEncoder master. (By the way, The used IDE version is Codesys V3.5 SP20patch3.) Best Regards Imdat

I’m currently working on establishing a TLS connection with an MQTT broker using the MQTT Client SL package in CODESYS. While I’ve successfully established communication with the broker without TLS, I'm encountering issues when trying to enable TLS. In the 'MQTT Explorer' application, I can easily upload the server certificate (.crt), client certificate (.crt), and client key (.key). However, in CODESYS, I can’t find a way to upload my client key (.key file). Here's a summary of my current setup: Certificates: I have uploaded both the client and server certificates to the certificate store under the 'Trusted Certificates' folder in the security screen. TLS Context Initialization: Despite setting the _sCommonName as the name of my client certificate, a new self-signed certificate is created and placed within the device’s certificates. I then need to manually move this certificate to the trusted certificates folder. We can give a chekclist on how to proceed: Fist, please recheck the communication settings in the OPC UA connection function block to ensure that the server URL, endpoint URL, and other settings are correct and match the configuration of the OPC UA server. Verify that the OPC UA server is running and accessible. -You can try to connect to the OPC UA server using a separate client, such as UAExpert, to ensure that the issue is not related to the OPC UA server itself. Test the security settings in the OPC UA connection function block to ensure that the correct security policy and certificate are selected. If you are using a dynamic connection to the OPC UA server, probe that the connection settings are correctly configured and that the OPC UA client is able to establish a connection to the OPC UA server. Also, please loock into the log files for any errors related to the OPC UA connection function block, these should be listet there. The log files may also provide additional information about the issue and help you to further troubleshoot the problem. Dear folks, I think I have a rather simple question but I could not find the right answer to my question: I have made with Excel a CSV file where I would like to have some general data regarding my program variables. I have made an program what let me read the file. The string I am currently get is at follows: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R$NPort_number;2000$R$NCycle_time;43$R$NStart_Standard_IO;20$R$N' Now I want to split the string in multiple part, which I later would connect to the right variable. By Google and experimenting I have reached to the following code for the first part of the splitting proces: // Splitting the BOM of the string: Received_string := FileReadString; IF LEFT(STR:=New_string,3)= '' THEN Received_string_without_BOM :=RIGHT(STR:= Received_string,SIZE:= (LEN(STR:= Received_string))-3); END_IF //Splitting the remaining string in part for later declaration. I understand that the Find() function returns the first value the $R$N in the Received_string_without_BOM. I expected that the outcome the following was: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$'. However the outcome is: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R'. I do not understand where the R after the $ sign comes from, because its place is 24 so it would not be added to the part_of the_string[index]. If I hard coded value 24 for the size it gives me the following return: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R$N'. I would expect everything till the R but the code adds the $N also to the string. I hope someone could explain to my what I am seeing wrong in my point of view? With kind regards, George

Hello! I managed to correctly launch CODESYS Developer Studio 3.5.17, almost all functionality works. The only issue remaining is that when connecting to a device and obtaining its public key, the NCryptEncrypt function is called, which is not fully implemented in the DLL source code, resulting in the connection not being established. Hello, I would like to have, if possible, some clarification on this function. That is, I would like to understand if it is useful for managing, fom my development PC, the RTE runtime executed on a remote control. This is what the help says: Remote PLC: Opens the Remote Configuration dialog. By enabling or disabling the Control remote PC, not local option, you determine whether a PLC is used that is on a remote or local PC. Accordingly, the menu commands Start PLC, Stop PLC, and PLC Configuration refer to the local PC or a PC reached on the network. For the remote PC, specify the Target PC address, Port number, and a Timeout value (in ms) for the connection (Remote Timeout [ms]). But does this mean that I also need to install the RTE runtime on my development PC? Is it possible to have some more information? Best regards Roberto Caponi

I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but getting the CurrentUserGroupID like this will not work, because there could be multiple Visualization Clients and each can have a different user that is logged in. Also when you go online with CODESYS and open an Visualization, this is counted as a client. Probably this is the reason you see it changing. What you can to is "iterate" over all clients and then see which user is logged in on which visualization Client. For this you need to add the Visu Utils library to the project and call the FbIterateClients. Hello, For my program I need an extended pulse timer, which can be referred to as a retriggerable pulse timer. Where every rising edge of the input resets the elapsed time zero, extending the lenght of the output pulse. The Codesys pulse timer (TP) is a one-shot timer and only resets the elapsed time with the falling edge of the input. There is also a pulse timer (LTP) in codesys, but in my simulation it was also functioning as a one-shot even though the description sounds like LTP should be retriggerable. I have uploaded some timing plots from another PLC program for reference. I am looking for a timer equivalent to the "TEP" diagram. Is there an Extended Pulse Timer in Codesys? Maybe there is a way to manipulate the input so it resets the elapsed time outside the function block?

Hi All, I am using codesys based plc to read and control magna power DC supply over LXI protocol using SCPI command. To connect device required socket programming for that i am using Net base service library function block TCP_Client to establish connection over TCP/IP , TCP_Write to write SCPI commands and TCP_Read to read data from Magna power DC supply. I have attached screenshot for logic developed. I am able to connect and write commands to device but i not receiving any information from device. For writing Commands i also tried various end of line character like \n,<nl>, A, D, 10, 13, 0x0A, 0x0D but not received any status from device. For testing purpose i am using simple command '*IDN?' to read data. Also if tried to check on hercules software what data actually plc read, first it read correct data after that is read wrong data as see in screen shot. 'Hello World' was correct read and after that Codesys in replaced with 'Codesysorld' that is not correct way. Same issue also appeared for send data. Any one have face same issue how i can read data directly from device correctly and send data please suggest solution on this.</nl>

Hello there, I am new here and in programming. I need help with the basics. I am trying to do what I mentioned in the title. I have an analog input. So I have a real or integer data type value. I want to delay it. TON and TOF only work with bool. I think there is a function block that has two inputs, 1 for real or int and 1 for bool. And if bool is true, it will give the output as real or int. I don't know but I need something like this. Actually, it is not exactly like that. In other words, it will not show the real value at the input at the output after a certain period of time. I want it to show the real value from 2 seconds ago continuously. The purpose of doing this is to compare the real value I received with the value from 2 seconds ago and find out whether it went up or down. I am using only FBD. Please help me with this. Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

My topic is more of academic nature, I would like to implement an XOR-operation with four inputs on my own (without the predefined XOR-operator) in a function block diagram (FBD). I have two proposals. One works fine and the other one is just an idea, but I do not know, if it is possible to code it in CODESYS V3.5 SP18 in form of a FBD. Here the one that works: And here an idea, which I have not managed to code it as an FBD: Any ideas? Is the 2nd diagram a correct interpretation of the coding task? And is there a way to implement it in form of an FBD in CODESYS V3.5 SP18? Followup (08-Nov-2024): Also in the current version of CODESYS (V3.5SP20Patch3) I have not managed to connect the existing blocks. In the alternative SPS-IDE PLCnext Engineer it is possible.
