Hello, I’m working on implementing Modbus RTU communication with a Carel controller (CPCO). I want to use the front RS485 interface through the DB9 connector. The issue is that I can’t get the communication working correctly. Below are the steps I’ve done so far: Connected pins 3 and 8 from the DB9 connector to the +/- RX/TX terminals on the Carel side. In the PLC shell, I set serialmode to RS485. In WBM under Administration > Serial Interface > Assign owner of serial interface, I set the port to unassigned. In the device tree, I created Modbus_COM with the following settings: COM port: 1 Baud rate: 19200 Parity: None Stop bits: 1 Created a Modbus client on this COM interface in RTU mode. Under the status tab, I can see it is in running state. On the client, I created a Modbus server and set the Modbus address of my unit to 1. Defined a few channels as FC03 to read holding registers according to the Carel register map. I checked the communication with the Carel controller using a USB-to-RS485 converter connected to my PC, and communication works correctly there. In the status tab, I can see that the Modbus server is polling, but there is no response from the controller. I also tried multiple times swapping A/B lines on the Carel side, but it did not help. Do you have any suggestions on what else I should check?

Versions: CODESYS V3.5 SP19 Patch 7 using IIOT Libraries SL license, specifically JSON Utilities SL version 1.13.0.0. For simplicity, let's say we want to construct the following JSON body for our request (simplified to just 1 key-value pair in each of the array objects to keep things shorter, but we'd have multiple fields in each in reality): { "id": "machine_1", "readings": [ { "temp_mid": 153.8 }, { "temp_mid": 98.3 } ], "status": "RUNNING" } However, our "readings" data is added over time, not in creation, so calls to the builder would be somewhat out of order. However, as soon as we pass it to the jsonArrayWriter (which is a JSON.JSONByteArrayWriter), the resulting jsonDataString does not match our expectations, instead coming out like this: { "id": "machine_1", "readings": [ { "temp_mid": 153.8 } ] } { "temp_mid": 98.3 } "status": "RUNNING" The behaviour of the JSONByteArrayWriter thus seems to be the problem here. It does not seem to correctly process the children of JsonElements that are ARRAYs when additions to them are done broken up by additions to the lower level JSON OBJECT they are a part of. We have confirmed this by changing the order of the calls in our example to add both readings before adding the "status", in which case we get our expected outcome. However, in reality this is not possible for us - additions to any of the JSON's objects, arrays or array objects may happen at any time after other fields elsewhere in the JSON have been added. Does anyone know a way around this, a fix, or knows a solution we simply have not found? This same phenomenon was also noted on this forum by user @ryusoup at the end of 2023 (https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/c45929e2f1/#e27f) and user @mtho in early 2024 (https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/cd1bb450db/#1292) but both topics received no activity beyond both users' opening posts. Looking through the release notes of all the versions of the JSON Utilities SL library, I also did not see any remarks on resolutions of bugs in this vain. Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Hi! Im slowly starting to loose it and i need som help! After a few night of reading up and testing i´m still stuck as a rock and you guys and girls are my last resort for this project. Basic facts; Win 11 Codesys 3.5 SP19 2 + (64-bit) Raspberry pi 4 model b 2 gb Raspian release 11 aarch64 What keeps me up late at night; Username and Password when trying to connect to device and device only beeing connectable for a few seconds. Some of the things I have tried; Username and passord; Credientials from the raspberry Administrator Administrator admin admin Admin Admin administrator administrator Usernames and passwords that I sometimes use (this was a longshot i know, but i was running out of ideas and energy). :) Epand filesystem, activating i2c, spi, 1-wire I can start the gateway and start the runtime. I cant install the edgearm64, arm64 runtime package eventhough I guess i should, i get code [ERROR] Error output: dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/codesysedge_edgearm64_4.8.0.0_arm64.deb (--install): [ERROR] Error output: package architecture (arm64) does not match system (armhf) [ERROR] Error output: Errors were encountered while processing: [ERROR] Error output: /tmp/codesysedge_edgearm64_4.8.0.0_arm64.deb code as a respons. I have tried to Reset Origin Device - no change. I have tried to remove the /etc/CODESYSControl_User.cfg [CmpUserMgr] but i could not find it and i was not sure if i should add it instead but i did not want to mess somthing up. I have tried to create a second gateway with the specific ip if the pi, that did not help. Could it be that i´m currently connected to the pi through WIFI? I can ping the pi and I can connect and control it through VNC. When i scan to select gateway target (scan edge gateway) i find 17-21 devices but can find the pi throug the mac adress. I started of trying to use the "CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi SL" (I have a license sience earlier) as i read somewhere that this could be used on a Pi4 as well but now i´m trying with the MC SL, no changes, same problem. Right now - gateway version 4.8.0.0 (edgearmHF, armhf), Runtime Package 4.5.0.0 (raspberry, armhf). Any sugestions are very welcome! As mentioned above, theese are some of the things that i have tried/done - but i have been going at this for a while. Best, Martin

However, although the encoder axis value changed, the position value of the slave axis did not change at all, it did not move. It always remained at 0.0mm. 9-) When I repeated the same steps above, only changing the master axis to SM_Drive_Virtual instead of FreeEncoder and gave movement to the virtual axis, this time the slave axis moved successfully. However, when the same steps and operations are performed with the same IDE just downgrade SoftMotion version from 4.17.0.0 to 4.10.0.0, everything works normally and without problems as expected in MC_CamIn block with FreeEncoder master. Using codesys v3.5 SP21 Patch 1. We are using Visualization to display alarms. Other then the automatically created AlarmManagerTask, there is no code written to call AlarmStorage_Prg. Good morning, I'm new on Codesys Forge, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to talk about my problem. When I open my WebVisu pages with Microsoft Edge, or Chrome, the background and also some rectangles blinking without reason!!! The application is developed with Codesys 3.5.17.10 and run on Codesys HMI, same version (3.5.17.10). After several experiments I discover that the problem happens when I made dynamic the "End of area" property of a meter object, but I can't understand why this blinking problem happens. Also, the problem is only at the WebVisu page, the "normal" VISU pages (the ones opened when Codesys HMI start) work always perfectly. Another strange thing is that the problem happens only if on the same page, where there is the meter object, there is also a trend object!?!? Codesys HMI is running on a Virtual Machine (VMware Workstation 15 player, v.15.5.6) running Windows 10 Pro N 64-bit. The blinking problem happen also if I convert the project to Codesys 3.5.20.0. This version of Codesys and Codesys HMI are installed on a Virtual Machine running Windows Server 2019 Standard 64-bit. In attachment the archive of my project. The attached project has only one page, if "Enable Counter" is not pressed the "End of area" variable of the meter is not updated in the software, and everything work well, normal VISU and WebVisu; if "Enable Counter" is pressed, the "End of area" variable of the meter is updated in the software, and the WebVisu page start blinking. I tried also to enable the "Support client animations and overlay..." property at VisualizationManager, this seems stop the blinking problem, but that property also destroy my WebPage, moving almost all the graphical object, that also seem not working anymore. I really need help to understand what I'm doing wrong, I have to develop a bigger project and I have to understand if trend objects and animated meters cannot stay in the same page. In the final project the WebVisu will be very important because the customer will use this way to access the application to monitor the process. Regards

Hello codesys forum, My company is looking at developing a solution with Codesys ARM SL. The requirements will not tax the capabilities of Codesys. I would like to buy an AMR 7 or 8 Dev Board for experimenting. I am looking for a recommendation as I have minimal experience with Linux. Any input from the forum would be most appreciated as the hardware requirements as provided by Codesys for ARM SL seem pretty minimal (basically a arm7 or 8 with Debian is all). Our needs are small in scale- something like 8 digital inputs, 6 digital outputs, 2 analog inputs and 1 analog output. A small gui will be published via web visualization for external display (no local display). Communications with ModbusTCP and uart/RS485. It may be necessary to access i2c and make c or python calls to some existing code that is pretty small. Something like the EMCraft STM32MP1 SOM Starter Kit or Octavo Systems OSD32MP1-RED development board? Ideally something that has a path to a SoM for production. Kontron appears to have some interesting options too. Just having a hard time deciding where to start. Thanks in advance... LC

I am currently attempting to modify the SMC_GeoInfo objects in the SMC_OutQueue using the code below. Note that all the other code is pretty standard and works fine, but when I add the below it errors. Hello, I'm relatively new to PLC programming. I am trying to creat a ramp down function, I have an example here of what I am using. I can get the function to work, the issue is that the OUT (variable3) value is being held by the FB so after I use it once it no longer works. In this example i set variable3 to 100 and the rest is as seen, over the course of a minute it ramped down to 10 (as desired). But when I deenergize TEST_START, set variable3 back to 100, and then re-energize TEST_START it immediately jumps back to the previously held value 10. The reset on this block just pauses the function and holds the last OUT. In my case I will need the function to start OUT at a set value, ramp down to the IN (variable2) value, and then accept a new OUT value to ramp down next time the block is energized. Hopefully this made sense, if anyone has any advice that would be awesome!

Noob alert! I’m just getting my feet wet with CODESYS. I have a “Hello World” project in the CODESYS IDE. I’m using the Win SoftPLC on the same computer. I’ve added a Communication Manager under the Application node. Under that is “OPC UA Server -> IEC Symbol Publishing 01”. I also added “OPC_UA_Symbols -> Information Model”. I’m not sure I need the second thing. I was grasping at straws. I also set up several dummy symbols in the IEC Symbol Publishing 01 node. In my C# application, I am trying to get an instance of EndpointDescription from CoreClientUtils.SelectEndpoint(“opc.tcp://localhost:1217/Gateway-1”, useSecurity: false, 15000). I wasn’t sure about the “Gateway-1”. I found that in the CODESYS IDE under the project -> Communication Settings. When I execute the previous method call in C#, I get: “BadSecureChannelClosed”. I have no idea what that means. Any pointers to documentation are welcome.

Hello everyone, I am testing the ModbusFB library tcp server and so far I am able to create holding registers successfully, however, I am trying to identify after each write which registers got updated (i.e. function code, write value). I can even see the var udiNumWriteRequests, which increases with every write. I noticed that there is logging with the LogStatusInfo method. After I call it I am able to read in the console stuff that I want. Nevertheless, this is only available at the logs and is not easy to decode because it consists on several messages, I would like to know if there is a way for me to retrieve this information from the function itself with pointers or if there is any way to copy the logs messages (assuming that I can filter them with the LoggingOptions to only show what I need) inside the runtime code and not in the console. This explanation aligns with the issues we’re experiencing with our machines. The scenario I described is happening with one of them (let’s call it Machine A). This machine is identical to another one (Machine B), except for some custom code that facilitates communication with an external Beckhoff PLC for MES integration in the production line. Machine B has been powered on and off daily for at least three months and has never had this problem. Given that, I highly doubt the MES custom code is the cause of the code corruption. This being said, your explanation does seem plausible. However, if faulty EtherCAT cables were the issue, why wouldn't the error occur during normal operation? Why would bad cables only cause problems during a hard shutdown? One last question: When you encountered this behavior, did you see a similar error in your logs? i.e, an "AccessViolation" exception in the EtherCAT Task?

Hi, For a project I am using the trendmanager functionality, I changed the placeholder filepath to which the SQL database is saved to: home/disk_usb, $trend$. Which only works as long as the usb was mounted to the PLC at boot. However, I'd like to be able to switch the USB's out if they break or for data analysis. However when a new (or the same) USB is plugged back in the shortcut doens't exist on the device anymore. Also in the device directory under root/mnt/ a new folder appears SDB1 in addition to SDA1 to which the Trendmanager was originally writing. The SDA1 folder is empty/unreachable while the new SDB1 folder has the contents of the USB drive. I tried disabling the trendmanger while unplugging the USB's however this doesn't work. My question, how do I make it so that when I plug a USB drive back in, it will be mounted to SDA1 instead of SDB1? Kind Regards

I am running a runtime environment on an ARM A35 dual-core processor (1.5GHz) and have encountered some issues. The CPU load (both CPU0 and CPU1) occasionally spikes above 50% before returning to normal, and this happens around 2-3 times per minute. At the same time, I’ve noticed that the Max Cycle Time in the Codesys monitoring screen shows much worse performance compared to the A53 (1.2GHz), with nearly double the cycle time. The optimizations I have made so far are as follows: Set the CPU to performance mode. Isolated CPUs: CPU0 is dedicated to running Linux services and the runtime itself, while CPU1 runs the EtherCAT task and the MainTask. Despite CPU1 only running these two tasks, the utilization still increases above 50%, which I find unreasonable. Additionally, I performed tests using cyclictest both without and with the runtime running. The performance is shown in the following image: From the results, I believe the CPU performance should be fine, but I am unsure why the monitoring results are not as expected. The testing outcomes should ideally be as close as possible to the cyclictest results. Does anyone have related solutions to this issue?
