Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

Hello, I have experienced such situations with some servo drive devices in the past. The home completion information is reported to the upper controller by the slave drive with the states of the relevant bits in the StatusWord (for example; 6041h Bit10, Bit12 in Home mode). If the states of these bits are correct in terms of number and state but the motor does not actually perform the action; You can contact the slave drive manufacturer. There may be a problem with the device firmware. Hi @eschwellinger, I tried this with Modbus COM slaves. I was able to disable them (slave becomes greyed out in the device tree), but the DED.Reconfigure "eError" output shows "NOT_SUPPORTED". After this, when I tried to re-enable the slave, it did not work (device stayed greyed out in the device tree), and the DED.Reconfigure "eError" output also showed "NOT_SUPPORTED". Is there something to do about this, or the device just doesn't support reconfiguration? P.S: I tried this running locally on my computer (not in simulation mode). So of course I was not physically connected to the devices. I have two similar projects, but one of them doesn't have the Modbus_COM devices. I know I can "Exclude from build" the devices for that project, but I would really prefer not to do this if possible. I would prefer to dynamically toggle a configuration variable that would enable or disable the slaves.

Hi, I have problem with connecting Wago PLC WAGO 750-8212/0025-0002 configured as OPC UA client to Kepware OPC UA Server. I am using Codesys 3.5.19.70. What I did so far. To the Codesys project I added object Data Source Manager and configured connection OPC UA like below: pic 1 Then I can browse the OPC server tags in “Variables” tab after prior trust on the server side of the client certificate created in the “Communication” tab: pic 2 Additionally second certificate has been created in Codesys for runtime process in “Security screen” as well as the server certificate was approved here: pic 3 But when I compiled project, downloaded it to PLC and go to RUN I can’t read selected in “Variables” tab, OPC Server tags. I am getting such error (ID: 7001): pic 4 All two PLC certificates has been trusted in OPC server (Kepware) side: pic 5 and Kepware server configuration look like this: pic 6 I can easily connect using third party OPC UA client UaExpert to Kepware server without problem. In attachment I added also log from Kepware OPC UA server. pic # - this specifies the number of a concrete graphic from one of the collective in attachment

I have monkeyed around with MB enough to know that herding a half dozen MB cats into a working config can be tricky. I just do them one at a time and dynamically turn them on/off in whatever combination is convenient with ID, IP, baud, parity etc being runtime tweakable. I am totally curious whether this is possible with codesys, or whether its device configuration corrals one into a static cage which requires re-building the code to support flexible variations. I think it depends on what you consider as redundant. Is it allowed to plug the network cable in another device (server), move the USB key with license to the other device (server) and then start it up? Or should it automatically switch over within msec and take over the communication with the I/O flawlessly without noticing the switchover? We helped several customers setting up the CODESYS Redundancy functionality and the nice thing is that when you have it up and running, you can easily switchover from active to passive and when you download a new applicaiton, CODESYS handles the update of boot project on the passive controller automatically. Sure this will require an additional license and the license for redundancy, but if your installation is that critical it should be worth it. We could help you setup the configuration and possibly provide the licenses for it (I noticed you are situated in the Netherlands).

I saved it as the same project but in a different location. I opened this "new project". I clicked on the "Direct Login from Automation Builder" button. It automatically directed me to CODESYS, where I was able to create the "Create Boot Project" but first I also clicked login again but inside CODESYS keeping the automation builder login online. Additional Information: The "Create Boot Project" function in CODESYS is used to create a project that will automatically start when the controller is booted up. To create a boot project, you must first create a new project in CODESYS. Once you have created a new project, you can then use the "Create Boot Project" function to create a boot application. The "Create Boot Project" function will create a new application that is based on the current project. The new application will be saved in the same location as the current project. You can then download the new application to the controller.

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 we have been using for years to run CODESYS for development purposes. I recently have had to re-install the OS (Raspberry OS lite). The only change to the default configuration is not creating the "pi" user during install. I (apparently successfully) installed the 4.10.0.0 control on the Raspberry Pi. We have licences on a dongle. I am able to start the control. systemctl status shows it as running for a little while (exactly, precisely 30 seconds as per my tests, every time), then it becomes exited. I can restart the control, and the same thing happens again. Every time. In the brief moments it is running, I can log in to the PLC. Working fast and restarting the control many times, I have been able to configure users. I have been able to download my application. I have been able to run the application, and stop on a breakpoint. I have been able to connect with the licence manager and confirm the dongle is detected and licences are listed as OK. I see nothing wrong until the service just exits. I have found nothing in the logs. It is like the runtime just terminates with no error code or message after exactly 30 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.

Die IP-Adresse des Profinet-Controllers soll zur Laufzeit geändert werden. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Anwendung auf einem PC mit einer Standard-Ethernetschittstelle (ControlWinV3+WinPcap). Die Datei "CODESYSControl.cfg" wurde dazu angepasst: .... Adapter.0.Name="Ethernet 4" Adapter.0.EnableSetIpAndMask=1 Die konfigurierte IP-Adresse wird zur Laufzeit an die tatsächliche IP-Adresse der Netzwerkschnittstelle mit dem folgenden Befehl angepasst (die Änderung von 192.168.2.33 auf 192.168.2.34 funktioniert auch): Ethernet.UpdateConfiguredIPSettings(IpAddress:=Ethernet.IPAddress, subnetmask:=Ethernet.Subnetmask, gateway:=Ethernet.GatewayAddress); Der Profinet-Controller geht danach auf Störung und gibt die folgende Fehlermeldung aus: "Controller-Status: currently active IP does not match the controller's configuration" Unter "Ethernet diagnostic information" kann man die geänderte IP-Adresse von 192.168.2.34. Ethernet läuft auch ohne Fehler. Unter "PROFINET IO Driver diagnostic information" -> "IPParameter" sieht man noch die alte (konfigurierte) IP-Adresse 192.168.2.33. Wie kann man die Störung beseitigen? Leider habe ich keine Methode zum Ändern der IP-Adresse auf dem Profinet-Controller gefunden? Reconfiguration des Profinet-Controllers?

For the Virtual Control you need to use a "Network license". The Virtual Control has parameters of which one is the reference to the license server. This can be the device itself, but you need to activate the license on the host system (not in the container). For this, CODESYS has a Network License server with WBM (web based management). See for the Network License configuration: https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Control/_rtsl_license_controller_linux.html If it is only for evaluation, I would advise to use a CODESYS (USB) key and activate the license on the key. Then you still have to install the CODESYS Network License server on the host, but you don't have to activate the license as soft license on the device. The benefit is that you can easily move your license to another device when needed. Off course your device must have a free USB port available to be able to do this.

Codesys V3.5 SP21 Patch 3 Codesys HMI 3.5.21.30 I'm trying to connect to an OPC UA server on a Kuka robot controller using Codesys HMI's data source manager. I get through the login phase and the client browses most of the data structure on the server but errors out toward the end with a generic: Error while browsing the client, Failed with service result: BadUnexpectedError. If I complete the data source setup and try to update variables, I get the attached stack trace for the error. I've tried several different endpoint and security options. Most get me through the login but all error out while browsing. UA Expert happily connects and browses with the same configuration. I've connected this same version of Codesys to TwinCAT OPC UA servers and Siemens PLC OPC UA servers. Any ideas on what may be causing the generic BadUnexpectedError during OPC UA server browse?

Hi — good description of the problem. A few suggestions / questions that might help narrow this down: Since your first serial port (COM2) works fine but the second (COM4 + MODBUS_EXT_MASTER) never opens, check whether the two ports are truly independent — some WAGO modules share internal resources, so COM4 might conflict with other functions or modules. Make sure that the physical wiring and module configuration for the second port (baud rate, flow control, RS-485 vs RS-422, etc.) exactly match what the library expects — a mismatch in flow control or wiring could prevent port opening even if the LED signals seem OK. Try using a plain SERIAL_INTERFACE on COM4 first (like you did for COM2) without Modbus logic — if that opens, you know the hardware + port config is fine, so the issue is more likely with modb_L05.lib. If the port opens but Modbus still fails, enable debug/logging (if available) to inspect whether the port opening fails or the subsequent Modbus negotiation fails. If you like — I can share a minimal example project I used with WAGO + COM4 + Modbus that worked; you could adapt that to test your setup. Wacky Flip

Hallo, ich versuche, eine Modbus-RTU-Kommunikation zwischen meinem Raspberry Pi mit CODESYS Control für Raspberry Pi 64 SL und einem Servotreiber von StepperOnline, Typ T6, herzustellen. Die Verbindung ist wie folgt: RJ45-Stecker am Servotreiber -> Kabel mit RJ45 an einem Ende und USB-A-Stecker am anderen Ende -> Seriell-zu-USB-Konverter -> Raspberry Pi. Der Seriell-zu-USB-Konverter und die Kabel habe ich zusammen mit dem Motor und Treiber von StepperOnline gekauft und sie sind dafür gedacht, den Servotreiber mit einem Computer zu verbinden, auf dem deren Setup-Software läuft. dmesg | grep tty auf dem Pi sagt mir, dass der USB-zu-Seriell-Konverter auf ttyusb0 ist. Ich weiß nicht, wie man das in einen COM-Port übersetzt, ich habe COM 1 genommen. Ich habe ein Projekt in Codesys erstellt und ein Modbus_COM-Gerät hinzugefügt, einen Modbus_Master_COM_Port und einen Modbus_Slave_COM_Port angehängt. Auf der Registerkarte "Allgemein" des Modbus_COM habe ich die folgenden Werte eingestellt: Slave address 1 Baud rate 9600 Parity None Data bits 8 Stop bits 2 Ich habe den Servotreiber auf die gleichen Werte eingestellt. Wenn ich das Projekt zum Raspberry Pi herunterlade scheint der Modbus_Master_COM_Port zu laufen (grünes Symbol), aber der Modbus_Slave_COM_Port nicht (rotes Dreiecksymbol). Wenn ich einen anderen COM-Port eintrage, haben sowohl der Master als auch der Slave das rote Dreiecksymbol. Ich habe dies auch mit meinem Windows-PC unter Verwendung von Codesys Control Win 64 versucht und die gleichen Ergebnisse bekommen. Ich wäre dankbar für jede Hilfe oder Tipps, wie ich den Grund dafür herausfinden kann, warum der Servotreiberreiber nicht reagiert.

Good day, I’m writing this message out of frustration regarding the current way project files are saved as encrypted XML and single-file format in CODESYS. I find this approach to be quite tedious for several reasons: Limited Access to Structured Text: Not being able to access Structured Text (ST) externally makes it impossible to work with alternative editors like VSCode. Tools like VSCode are incredibly responsive and feature advanced systems such as GitHub Copilot, which would be a real game-changer when working with ST IEC. While CODESYS works well for small code snippets or debugging, when the codebase grows, switching to VSCode to boost productivity becomes essential, and copy-pasting between environments is a cumbersome workaround. Poor Integration with Git: This file format also makes it very difficult to integrate effectively with Git. I have tested the internal demo, but for advanced merges, it is unusable. Without properly formatted plain text, it’s impossible to leverage the vast ecosystem of external tools around Git that allow smooth merges in heterogeneous teams. File Corruption on Network Drives: I often work from multiple locations with shared network drives. When the development environment saves a file and something goes wrong midway (which can occasionally happen when using VPNs and network drives), the entire project becomes irrecoverable. There’s no way to cancel the save process, and the development environment freezes. This has happened to me at least four times over the past two weeks, and one of those incidents cost me an entire day of work. All of this is particularly disappointing because I truly believe that the libraries, runtime, and overall work done by CODESYS are exceptional. I find it fantastic that there is a platform allowing development of PLCs and control systems using OOP, which is a huge advantage in modern control engineering. Thank you for your interest. Your answers are in line with what I knew, so at least it comforts me that I did not misinterpret the situation. However, I don't have an exact match as, for this project over the past few days I have: 1) I have gone back to leaving the various FBs of the motion always called, all of them, and in the state machine I use a boolean to activate the various useful Execute. (But in the future I want to go back and try the programming technique with which I wanted to develop this project); 2) For the occasional error: SMC_FB_WASNT_CALLED_DURING_MOTION perhaps it was due to the fact that I had set the Ethercat bus synchronism only at the CAN master level, but not at the level of individual drives. I have now also activated it for the individual drives and it does indeed seem to have been resolved, but having also adopted the programming technique mentioned in point 1), I cannot say whether this was the solution to the problem, or instead the previous point. Is there an error ‘regulator or start not set’ in the device log before the error ‘motion generating FB wasn't called for at least one cycle’? I can't answer that right now. By now the machine is running and I am no longer there, at this one. Also, I seem to remember that the 'fbeFBerror' drive structure (5-element array), does not cycle, BUT ONCE THE 5 EVENTS AFTER SWITCHING ON, IT DOES NOT UPDATE ANYMORE (but that's another issue), so diagnostics were not easy.
