Hello, I was trying to create a redundancy POC for our application where we read data from few modbus tcp devices. As there is a limitaion that modbus tcp device support only for single master device, we wanted to test how the variable sync happens in redundancy mode. For that i have used the redundancy sample code added a variable "b" under a condition. What i observed was while active controller is running, if passive controller is powerup, passive controller is able to sync all the data configured for redundacny. But after that the variable data which resided under a condition is not synching from active to passive controller. I have attached the image where i have highlighter the variable. Can some help me to understand how redundacny work in codesys soft plc and if there is a solution to sync variable which are under condition, please explain the same or suggestion to achieve the same. Hardware - Raspberry Pi (2 qty) Redundancy licence used - yes in both controllers. Codesys runtime - 4.9.0.0 Codesys software version - V3.5 SP19 if i have posted this question in wrong section, please do let me know in whcih section i have to post this question.

You can jumper the hats Analog Outputs to Inputs and see it function on the Web Visualization. Very Cool! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find this solution so hopefully this update helps others. Dear People I’m trying to draw a circle using MC_MoveCircularAbsolute, but I keep encountering an error. The error message is SMC_CP_CIRCLE_CENTER_NOT_ON_BISECTOR. What I’m trying to do is simply draw a circle with a diameter of 20, starting from the point X=0, Y=0. I’ve set CircMode to center. It seems like a simple task, but the error keeps occurring, and it’s giving me a headache. I’d appreciate your help. I’ve also attached the program, so please provide any advice you can. I want to use the mode as the center. I've tried changing multiple coordinates and it won't run. Hey guys, I'm very much a noob with networking, it's my achillies heel, and this is my first networking project using Ethernet/IP. Any help offered is GREATLY appreciated. I'm trying to network a Codesys Project with an Omron NX1P2 PLC. I'm using EIP due to hardware restrains. I've added the fieldbus, EIP scanner (as the master), and made a Network Variable List. On the Sysmac Studio end, I've made the variables and set them to network inputs/outputs, registered them in EIP settings, but when I try to set the target device (the Codesys project), I suspect I need to import an EDS file for the EIP mapping. Back in the Codesys project, I'm not sure how to: - Make an EDS file to share with Sysmac Studio - How to link the target device (Omron PLC) to the EIP fieldbus - How to map the inputs from the Omron PLC. Im sorry for my very open request for help, i'm kind of lost looking through the various forums/video/tutorials as many of them dont match what im trying to do. Hi, I'm using codesys v3.5 sp21 software. I have downloaded the sample opc ua client project from https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Examples/_ex_uacapi_example.html and i tested connecting to "prosys opc ua simulation server". Through Anonymous connection it is connecting to server and can read data. Later tried to connect using username and password. First got a SECURITY_CHECKS_FAILED error, trusted the client certificate in the server and this issue resolved. Next got an INVALID_CERTIFICATE error, trusted the server certificate in the client and this issue resolved. After these two error it is not establishing the connection and not giving any error messages. Hello community, I just want to inform you about our plans and the current status of automating the build process for CODESYS libraries. So it might be helpful for some people who are in the same situation. Background story: I am a software engineer at powerIO GmbH, normally I use high level languages for the products we develop and offer. Sometimes I work with my team on CODESYS libraries, which can also be found in the CODESYS store. Most of the time I spend with them on architecture tasks and tasks that are not directly related to our products. Every time I see the manual processes for releasing a library etc., I am very surprised about this time intensive process. Current situation: I know there has been a scripting interface for years. CODESYS Git was released a few years ago, but the scripting interface was only released a few months (weeks?) ago. We developed a pseudo-automated solution a few months ago, but it was all very hacky. So now there is a better Git implementation and also more modularization and installation options. For example, the CODESYS installer has a full CLI, which makes it very convenient to install CODESYS installations headless. Plans: I think it's the right time to develop a better automation solution. Most of our software projects are hosted on Github and we use Github actions very intensively for other software projects. Therefore, we have decided to use Github for our CODESYS library projects as well. Following tasks should be implemented in automation for CI/CD tasks: - Automated setup of CODESYS installation (Already released: https://github.com/marketplace/actions/setup-codesys-installation) - Checkout CODESYS libraries - Execute tests scripts - Sign CODESYS libraries - Extract Library documentation - Create CODESYS package - Sign CODESYS package Side Note: - This is mainly a side project, and we do not provide support for the CI/CD part. - This topic is here to help and also to get help from other software engineers. - This project and idea is not prioritized as I am currently the only one working on it and I hope it will help us and also others and increase productivity. - We are putting this out there as an organization, but priorities can change quickly and the CI/CD tasks I am developing are mostly done in my spare time. So please don't expect this to happen in a short time or even be fully completed. I would be very happy if some ppl will join the development process and might be open to discuss some technical details for this. B&R, for example, is likely the only one that could truly challenge Codesys in the market: they’ve overhauled their once-archaic environment (previously lacking ST OOP) and are now catching up significantly with Automation Studio Code, offering modern programming capabilities and native support for tools like Git and GitHub Copilot. The other big names in the market, frankly, are still light years behind. For smaller projects, typically handled by “wire strippers” (with all due respect!), a classic environment might be just fine. But once you’re dealing with thousands or even millions of lines of code—possibly organized in an OOP paradigm, spanning large teams, integrating third-party libraries, requiring version control, and performing comprehensive tests—a lightweight, responsive editor supercharged with AI-based features becomes essential. The real strength of something like VS Code lies in its vast ecosystem of extensions and integrations: from advanced Git support to automated build/test pipelines, and even AI-assisted autocompletion that already makes software development much more agile and productive. I understand that a PLC project involves more than just ST code (task setup, fieldbus configuration, libraries, etc.). However, there’s no technical reason not to at least provide ST files in a pure text format, making version control and collaboration far easier. B&R has clearly adopted this approach; I hope Codesys will accelerate its own efforts to offer a native, text-based integration and modern development tooling. Once you go beyond a certain level of complexity—dozens of configurations, OOP hierarchies, and distributed teams—you really do need “engineer-level” software tools, not just solutions targeting “wire strippers.” For large-scale automation projects, a more open and flexible approach is the only way to avoid chronic frustration. Let me emphasize that I truly love Codesys and consider the work done so far to be brilliant—I’d be sorry to see it overshadowed by others moving faster in this direction.

As I wrote before on the title, I have difficulties to connect to see webvisu from localhost. The story: while waiting for the plc+hmi to arrive, I'm preparing the software, mainly the visual parts trough the control Win3 x64 (same version as the ide 3.5.20.10). The problem is that I can't see the webvisu with the installed webbrowser. I don't know if this is a problem, but I changed the port to 9001 (randomly "free") because 80, 8000, 8080, 8088, 3000 are all occupied by other projects (all on the Apache server). Is there something wrong with the config file? This is the url: localhost:9001/webvisu_app.htm and here the config file part "CmpWebServer". Hi im Albert, im developing libraries for my PLCs and i have some issues on visualization part. First of all I have done a library that have a image pool with a list of 4 gifs "ImagePoolErrors" (i've tested in other projects and it works) but the problem comes when i create another library that in the visualization part contains images from my image pool library, when i simulate a program that includes a instance of my second library object the visualization images dont show, any of them, i've checked all the references and tried some options of the image properties but without any difference. Here is the screenshots of the first library (that contains Image Pool) and the second library (that includes images of the image pool first library) and the visualization simulation (with the missing image gif issue). Any idea of what i forgotten in the process? If you need any detail of the library or of the project or you need the library file, ask me, thank on advance

Hallo all I would appreciate some clarifications regarding the appropriate runtime system to use. I've been using 'KUNBUS CPUs' and 'CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL' for the last 4 years. Recently, there have been some changes in the CODESYS licensing policy. [ https://store.codesys.com/en/howto_applicationbasedlicenses ] My questions are mainly two: 1) If I need to start a new project using 'KUNBUS CPUs', which is the correct runtime system to use. 2) Old projects built using 'CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL' should be updated to another RT system? Current RT systems ... a)CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL b)CODESYS Control for Linux ARM SL c)CODESYS Virtual Control SL May I count on receiving an explanation to understand the differences among the runtime systems listed above? Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

Hi @eschwellinger, I tried this with Modbus COM slaves. I was able to disable them (slave becomes greyed out in the device tree), but the DED.Reconfigure "eError" output shows "NOT_SUPPORTED". After this, when I tried to re-enable the slave, it did not work (device stayed greyed out in the device tree), and the DED.Reconfigure "eError" output also showed "NOT_SUPPORTED". Is there something to do about this, or the device just doesn't support reconfiguration? P.S: I tried this running locally on my computer (not in simulation mode). So of course I was not physically connected to the devices. I have two similar projects, but one of them doesn't have the Modbus_COM devices. I know I can "Exclude from build" the devices for that project, but I would really prefer not to do this if possible. I would prefer to dynamically toggle a configuration variable that would enable or disable the slaves.

I have done the switch (linux mint, virtual windows through QEMU/KVM) now and is generally pleased. Have had problems in two areas initially. To bridge IP to the Virtual unit (solved), I overthought things initially. Solution. Configure manually a bridge in the mint-"network connections". Use that bridge in the Qemu settings as "Bridge device", "Device name": "name of the configured bridge" Figure out where to store the projects. I started out have the data in linux world (sort of) and linking it the windows with "virtio-fs". That had some serious impact though on git-handling. It seems that virtio-fs interpreted any file-path as lowercase only even if there were uppercase, resulting in git not able to sync files between its repository and the source code (it created a new file-path for me with only lowercase). Then I switch to samba-share instead and this works much better, though (git-actions) is a part that still has low performance with lots of waiting for file-actions. What should be the best way of handling the source/git? Edit to answer myself: Save the project "locally" in windows, then a lot of slow performance is avoided. Then a git-remote sync for backup.

We are working on a project and the customer required 3.5.16 BF4. After working on the project for a few weeks I opened it the next morning and it could not access libraries. IecVarAccess could not be accessed. I checked if windows updated - it did not. So no explanation for why it lost access other than that I shut down the computer for the night. Note that I am using a demo license. I still haven't figured out any reason to purchase a license. So I spent the next hour reinstalling CodeSys. Note that I did NOT uninstall first. After install I waited another 5 minutes for it to open the first time. I clicked File->Open to open the project. Previously I had selected File->Recent Projects - not sure if that makes and difference. But after this process it did open the project and compile it just fine. This is miserable. If this had happened when I went on site to a customer I would have lost hours of work doing the reinstall. Is there a different and quicker fix?

Colleagues, i have the same problems. At the current time, I have to use the new version of the Codesys (3.5.20.10) + Control for Linux SL 4.11.0.0, but it works unstable : theree are a lot of freezes and not-respondings. I tested this on different projects: those that were created in the current version of the project, and those that were migrated from other versions of the development environment. Compiling a project without connecting to a controller is fast enough. The first downloading of the code into the controller, too. But as soon as you need to make edits and download a new code problems begin. Codesys "freezes" at the "Generation code" stage for 15-20 minutes. And only after that time loads the code into the controller. Previously, we used version 3.5.17.60 + Control for Linux SL 4.7.0.0. The process took 1-2 minutes. Do you have any ideas how can i fix it? I will be grateful for your answers.

Hi everyone, I’m developing a custom CODESYS I/O driver for my company’s device, and I’ve been studying the example projects in CODESYS V3.5 SP20 Patch 5. In the IOMappingExample.project, I noticed that EtherCAT devices provide additional configuration tabs in the Device Editor, such as General, Process Data, etc. However, for custom I/O driver examples (based on IoDrv), the Device Editor only shows the default tabs like <devicename> I/O Mapping or <devicename> Parameters.</devicename></devicename> I’d like to create custom tabs or configuration pages in the Device Editor (e.g., “General Settings”, “Communication”, etc.) to allow users to configure parameters in a more structured way. Could anyone explain: How to define and register custom tabs or UI pages in the Device Editor? What tools or SDKs are needed to create UI elements such as combo boxes or check boxes? How to bind those UI controls to device parameters defined in the XML (device description)? Any example, SDK reference, or documentation link would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

I am in the process of getting a visualization to work with the codesys keyboard. I created a custom keyboard which works fantastic for all input fields in the main visualization. I created a user management for my runtime, which gave me the standard blue login page. The codesys keyboard does not show up when trying to enter the usernam or password. I have tried every setting: changing the keyboard back to the standard codesys keyboard, and changing various settings on the visualization manager with no success. I can only use a physical keyboard connected to the device to enter the password. I did try removing the keyboard to no success either. I even tried creating my own login page so I could guarantee the keyboard showed up. This ended in disaster as I could not figure out the very complicated VisuUserManagement and VisuUserManagementDialog library, and documentation is contradictory or lacking. I imagine that an on screen keyboard is essential for many people's projects when using touchscreen panels, so I am wondering what others are doing. I would rather not use an external virtual keyboard (external to codesys) because this causes its own complications (I am working on a linux build with high securities).

This is my first time posting in this forum and I am new to codesys. I am a fullstack developer and I am trying to figure out how the following. What would be the best approach to create a own/custom tag browser? Either directly in codesys ide or using a separate custom program (perhaps a winforms application). 1.a. Shall I parse the .project xml file to get a list of all tags in the project? 1b. Shall I use python scripting in codesys ide to get a list of tags? Once one have selected some tags. These tags shall be exposed to a python program which will be acting as a edge computer. It’s fine to be able to import a file. 2a. I found a library called codesys plchandler which (as I understand) acts a rest api server. Is this correct? If so, can I query the api from a custom python script, ie can query what tags exist in project and or read tag values? My research so far. From earlier projects I know that using opc ua would be perfect for this but from my opinion it’s bloating the plc since it’s resource intensive. So opc ua is not an option. Codesys automation server is neat. But I don’t want to rely on some cloud services and subscription based pricing. There seem to be several interesting codesys libraries like mqtt, tcp server and NVL sender which would help me expose plc tags. But all have a common problem. One have to manually write what tags which will be used in these function blocks. I want a similar experience like “selecting” tags in the opc ua or the codesys tracing, ie a tag browser.

CODESYS Control for PFC200 4.13.00 CODESYS IIoT Libraries SL 1.11.0.0 Application Based License: CODESYS Control Standard M I have (2) projects with similar code base and both using Wago PFC200. On the second project I am seeing 2 things that I have not been able to resolve: 1) Errors in the log under the Ethernet Item: IoDrvEthernet: [PCI\E1Q51CE62] Could not be found on target! Please check the Ethernet settings. 2) Exception for CPU Load. "Processorload watchdog: plcload=100, maxplcload=95" I have slowed down cyclic tasks on this project, even though on the first project there is actually more code - and it does not exhibit this behavior. In looking at the CPU loading via Linux 'TOP' command there appears to be 20% idle. So plenty of headroom (my opinion). In an effort to troubleshoot I have duplicated the target hardware on my bench. It ran overnight without a CPU load exception. On the test system, I have tried (3) version of the ethernet device. 3.5.16.0 3.5.17.0 and 4.2.0.0 Presently the log does not show the error, but status says the module reports an error. I really do not know if this issue is related to the CPU load exception. The issue does not appear to effect ethernet communications (ModbusTCP or SNMP or Webvisu or PuTTy into Linux Shell). On my test bench I have ModbusTCP slave simulators for all ModbusTCP slaves, but only (1) of the (5) SNMP devices present.

Subject: Solution: CODESYS Freezes Linked to Large Symbol Configuration (OPC UA) Hello everyone, I was experiencing the same problem as many here: CODESYS (v3.5 SP20+) freezing during compilation and download, especially on projects that use OPC UA for SCADA. The only workaround was to run Build > Clean all before every download. I believe I have found the root cause and a permanent solution. The Problem: The issue is directly related to a large Symbol Configuration. In my project, I only need about 700 tags for OPC UA, but the Symbol Configuration list was showing over 250,000 tags. This is because it automatically includes all variables from Global Variable Lists (GVLs) and other memory areas. When any static variable is changed, the IDE tries to rebuild this enormous list, causing it to freeze for several minutes. The Solution: Instead of letting CODESYS export every variable by default, you can use a pragma to tell it which variables or GVLs to exclude from the symbol export process. Place the following pragma at the top of any GVL or data structure that you do not want to be part of the symbol configuration: 1 {attribute 'symbol' := 'none'} 2 VAR_GLOBAL 3 // All variables in this GVL will now be excluded from the 4 // Symbol Configuration by default. 5 InternalVariable1 : INT; 6 InternalVariable2 : BOOL; 7 END_VAR After adding this pragma to all the GVLs that were not needed for OPC UA, the number of tags in my Symbol Configuration dropped to the correct amount. The compilation and download process is now fast again, with no freezing. This method is much more efficient than manually managing the symbol list in the editor. Hi all, I’m currently trying to improve my OOP structure in CODESYS and I’m looking for some input on how others approach this. I understand the basics like inheritance, interfaces, abstract FBs, methods, and properties, but I still struggle a bit with the overall architecture and what’s considered clean or scalable in bigger projects. As an example, I’m working on two different energy meter function blocks: FB_EnergyMeter_MQTT reads data from MQTT (strings) FB_EnergyMeter_Modbus reads data from Modbus (words) Both have their own Update() method and implement the same interface (something like IF_EnergyMeter). Later on, I’ll probably add more meter types, but they should all behave the same from the controller’s point of view. Now, there’s a FB_GridControl block that needs power data from these meters. I see two options here: Define the meter blocks inside FB_GridControl and call them directly (for example fbModbusMeter.UpdateModbus()). Keep the meter blocks outside and pass them into FB_GridControl as interface references, so the control block doesn’t know which specific type of meter it’s dealing with. Option 2 feels cleaner and more flexible to me, but I’m not entirely sure how to handle the data flow in that case. Should I pass the meter instance through an interface reference (REFERENCE TO IF_EnergyMeter)? Or is there a better way to link the external FBs to the control block? I’d like to hear how you structure this kind of setup or see an example from someone who has done something similar. Hello, We are trying to implement an automated method of adding of a certificate and private key to the Windows certificate store for encrypting CODESYS projects. We want to do this so that users do not have to deal with details of certificates at all and to prevent user error. We are keen on enforcing strong private key protection since it ensures that a password is required for the certificate to be used to decrypt a CODESYS project. When we add a certificate to the certificate store and enable strong key protection using the Microsoft Management Console Certificates snap-in, it works as expected. However, through this method the user may mistakenly not enable strong private key protection. For the certificates we create programmatically (using Microsoft’s Cryptography Next Generation API in .Net 7) bag attributes are added to the certificate and key by the API. These bag attributes are as follows: Bag Attributes localKeyID: 01 00 00 00 subject=C = xx, ST = xxx, O = xxx, OU = xxx, CN = xxx issuer=C = xx, ST = xxx, L = xxx, O = xxx, OU = xxx, CN = xxx -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- [encoded certificate] -----END CERTIFICATE----- After using this certificate with bag attributes to encrypt a CODESYS project, it can’t be decrypted, showing this error: "The specified project could not be loaded. Possible reasons might be: - The project file is corrupted or invalid - The project has been saved with a newer version of the programming system. If this is the case, you can open the project in the corresponding version. Choose "Save as..." with the appropriate storage version, and retry again. - You may not have the necessary permissions to lad the project" We know that the bag attributes are causing the issue because if we manually edit the certificate file to remove them before using the certificate to encrypt a project, the project can be decrypted as expected. However, we are unable to automatically enforce strong key protection using this method. Hi, I am trying to build a CI/CD pipeline around our codesys projects. The only entry point if the git url and branch, as we do not put our project file under source control, so we needed to find a way to git clone from the python scripting engine. This is currently how we do this : system.commands["Git", "Clone"].execute( "ProjectLocation=" + project_dir, "ProjectName=" + project_file_name, "RemoteUrl=" + project_git_remote_url, "GitProjectStoragePath=" + project_git_local_dir, ) system.commands["Git", "Checkout", "Branch"].execute( "PrimaryProjectHandle=0", "BranchName=origin/" + project_git_branch ) This works fine, except that, depending on the environment and the project, the "Project Environment" popup gets displayed to suggest for some updates, and waits for a user interaction, even with the "--noUI" flag injected as parameter. I investigated the VersionUpdateFlags, but the problem is that the git clone is an atomic operation that clones and directly opens the generated project without the possibility to inject any updateFlags argument (only used in the ScripProjects.open() function. I also tried to simulate some keyboard events acknowledge the window from script but I did not find the right location for the SendKeys statement, I think before the git clone call is too early and after is too late. So I am wondering if there would be some other way to do that. Is there some more proper scripting api for the git add on ? Is there a global configuration of the VersionUpdateFlags that would allow the popup to be disabled outside from any project context ? Is there some way to automatically acknowledge this kind of messages in a "--noUI" mode ? What do you suggest ? Thanks for your help, Roland Edit : I managed to solve my problem by following these steps in my pipeline : - create a template of a project and opt file preconfigured not to open the popup - open this project - initialize an empty git repo - add the remote, fetch and checkout the needed branch -> no popup is displayed, hourra Edit2 : The initial question was raised on a CODESYS V3.5 SP18 Patch 2 profile.
