Are you using the Control Win SL (installed together with the development environment of CODESYS)? If yes, you might want to consider using the CODESYS RTE instead. This has real-time capabilities (running on separate core(s)). But to be able to use this, you have to install the CODESYS Ethernet driver for your network interface to be able to let the RTE access the network port also in realtime. I am configuring a Lenovo M900 computer with CODESYS Control RTE SL 3.5.20.30. I use an Aoc E2272pwut LED 21.5 monitor. The touchscreen works perfectly in the Windows 10 PRO environment but does not work in the WebVisualization environment (Window opened at PLC startup). Does anyone know if it is necessary to configure any drivers in Win RTE? I am at your disposal for any questions. Thank you.

Hi all, for a deeper understanding of the Codesys RTE - I created a simple application with 3 IEC tasks (Ta,Tb,Tc) each with different priorities, and different cycle times. The application runs on Windows 10 in the Soft PLC CODESYS Control Win V3. If my understanding is correct, the RTE i.e. the Process CodesysControlService should spawn 3 threads (Th_a,Th_b,Th_c) which are executed with the defined cycle times, the priority of the threads should reflect the priority of the task set in the Codesys IDE. Does somebody have an idea, how I could identify the respective threads in Windows? Kind regards Andrej

If you have a Windows system (RTE), then why not run the CODESYS HMI as separate controller. This could easily be moved to another PC if required. In the HMI you could also still use the Symbolic Var access as part of the Data Source Manager, although maybe OPC is the preferred way to make it more future proof. Or what about the Remote Target Visu. Then you can reduce the load of the main controller, while still only having to create one application including Visualization. This is now also supported for Linux systems. Hi there, An "OPC Expert" client software is connecting to a Codesys Control RTE (x64) OPC UA Server. It reads only about 25 variables every 5 minutes. The OPC UA Server seems to shut down on the Codesys runtime. Is there any way to get information about the Codesys OPC UA Server status? Restart it? There is nothing in the PLC Logs after the OPC UA Server has started. It works for a while, then it doesn't. Any ideas? Any way of getting more info out of the Codesys OPC UA Server? -Bjarne

This library would be very useful for IPC communications. Using a UDP socket on localhost is unpredictable, as with slightly loaded machines it does not even guarantee packet delivery locally. Using TCP creates a lot of overhead. Message named pipes would be an excellent solution for Windows RTE. On Linux, since the release of the extension package, there is no issue, as it is sufficient to develop a component. However, although now 90% of our clients understand that Linux runtimes are better in every way compared to Windows RTE, especially from the security aspect (Not in kernel space) and the issues with Windows updates, 10% stubbornly insist (sometimes for trivial commercial reasons) on using Windows. Managing IPC with circular buffers in shared memory is quite ugly, or rather really ugly and unaesthetic. In the manuals, I saw the SysPipeWindows libraries, so I decided to test them, but unfortunately, I noticed that they are not implemented for RTE devices. Technically, I could try to open them as regular files, but SysFileOpen returns 16#27 or 16#39 depending on how I set the name (direction of the slashes). Here is the code to create shared memory and named pipes. Is there any function function block which can store the persistent variable in HDD/SSD immediatley. My observation is that the persistent variable is getting stored when we shut down or restart the system (Windows+ CoDeSys RTE SL ). the persistent variables are not stored in HDD/SSD, if I power off the system without proper shutdown. Seeking your feedback.

Hello, I would like to have, if possible, some clarification on this function. That is, I would like to understand if it is useful for managing, fom my development PC, the RTE runtime executed on a remote control. This is what the help says: Remote PLC: Opens the Remote Configuration dialog. By enabling or disabling the Control remote PC, not local option, you determine whether a PLC is used that is on a remote or local PC. Accordingly, the menu commands Start PLC, Stop PLC, and PLC Configuration refer to the local PC or a PC reached on the network. For the remote PC, specify the Target PC address, Port number, and a Timeout value (in ms) for the connection (Remote Timeout [ms]). But does this mean that I also need to install the RTE runtime on my development PC? Is it possible to have some more information? Best regards Roberto Caponi

Thanks for this - I have now been looking in to just having an extra (non-RTE) runtime on the same machine, as you suggest. I will probably proceed this way. Even though it still seems very odd to me, that variable exchange to a different runtime is easier than between applications on the same controller. There will be some fun with the licensing, it seems. Does anyone know if it is possible to specify which license container/specific license the runtime is going to use at runtime. Let's say I have two available licenses with different resources available, for example one license allows multicore and multiple EtherCAT channels, but not many visu tags (for the RTE). Another with less resources but a lot of visu tags (for the Visu controller). Let's say the program in one of the controllers could be fully licensed by either of the two available licenses, but picks the 'largest' first. A bit later, the larger application starts, but is left with the smaller license.. How can I make sure that the 2 runtimes select the right license at startup?

Hello, I have a question: Once the command is being executed, is there a way to kill it again? As the called application is running in the background, the user can't close it but it shall be closed/terminated, commanded by codesys. I have tried with "SysProcessTerminate" but I guess this is not correct as the RTE crashes when this function is called. i have a problem with Profinet on my project. I'm using Codesys RTE 3.5.19.50. When i download program to controller the ethernet is ok, PN_Controller is ok but every device i'm trying to connect is red with error "DCP no RealStationName". When i'm trying to Scan for Devices on PN_Controller there are no devices found. I have installed Codesys driver CmpEt1000Drv to my network adapter (i'm sure it is right intel pro 1000 model). I have noticed that when i installed codesys driver i'm no longer able to ping this network adapter (i can ping it when intel driver is installed). On my previous projects with runetimes i can ping it even with codesys driver installed. I have also tried to do downgrade of everything to version 3.5.19.20 and it not helped.

Hello, I would like to know if there is a PROFIdrive layer in CODESYS. I am already familliar with Codesys's SoftMotion on CANOpen/EtherCAT (to control PLC Open FBs), and I need the same kind of stuff for PROFINET-IO devices; In my configuration, I have a CIFX board from Hischer to enable IRT, the SoftPLC "Codesys Control RTE V3 x64", and a servo-drive from INFRANOR that implements PROFINET / PROFIdrive (with IRT) protocol. Hello, I've been trying to use EoE for communication between a Windows PC and an M753 drive from Control Technique. Despite following some online guides (https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/libs/EtherCATStack/4.3.0.0/Ethernet_over_EtherCAT/fld-Ethernet_over_EtherCAT.html) I haven’t had any success. Both are connected to a Debian device where RTE is running: The PC is connected via the Ethernet port. The drive is connected via the EtherCAT port. I'm unable to ping the drive from my Windows PC. Here is my configuration: On Debian: (See attachments 1, 2, 3) enp1s0 = Ethernet port enp2s0 = EtherCAT port tap2 = TAP device IP forwarding and routes are both configured. On Windows: (See attachments 4, 5) On Codesys: (See attachments 6, 7) Version: Windows 11 Debian GNU/Linux 11 Codesys 3.5.17 Control for Linux SL 4.7.0 EtherCAT 4.4.0 With this configuration, I can ping the TAP device, but not the drive (See attachment 8). Could someone explain how to properly configure all these settings? Thank you, GA

Hi, I would like to divide a project into multiple applications - as a minimum: one handling visualization and Alarm Manager, one handling I/O and plant control logic. But how to exchange variables between the applications? What have you done to get such a solution? In versions 3.5.19 and earlier, you can have Child applications, where the children can access a GVL in the Parent application. Children apps is no longer possible in 3.5.20 - but you can have 'sibling' apps - Several apps directly under PLC Logic, that is. But how do they best communicate? The Communication Manager / Data Sources Manager is sort of possible via OPC UA, but it seems like overkill and with some limitations - for example no ARRAY OF STRUCT possible this way. If you have separate devices in your project, you can exchange data via 'CODESYS ApplicationV3', but not other applications in the same device (see attachment Datasources.png). You can do it via 'Select the project type'->'Other Project' and select the same project file, but this leads to crashing the Development system when working with the variables afterwards. It would be great to hear your thoughts / experiences on this topic - Bjarne
