I have a BBB with debian image 2016-01-24 but doing scan network does not show device. I have included pictures of me pinging the beaglebone as well as project and scan network screens that I have. Any information on how to get the device to connect would be greatly appreciated couldn't find any relevant posts.

You need to install the runtime and run it. It will stop after 2hrs, unless you license it.
install:

license:
https://help.codesys.com/webapp/_bbb_license;product=CODESYS_Control_for_BeagleBone_SL;version=4.2.0.0
start stop runtime via the runtime deploy tool:
