I know this topic have been touch a lot of time. and I wasn't aware how bad it was until I started to work also with other IDE (VSCode, arduino, eclipse, ...) nearly all of them have dark mode.
Depending on the work environment having a dark mode help a lot with eye strain.
I know CODESYS must have a ticket somewhere to develop a full IDE dark mode or even better a customizable theme system (So it could also help color blind peoples).
Could it be possible to show CODESYS that dark mode is something we (as a community) would like to see in the IDE ?
Could anyone interested with a dark mode for CODESYS post a message ?
    Thanks.

Ps as a closing joke (not from me):
"Light attracts bugs. We don't like bugs, right ?"

    I would love a dark mode !
You can already change the theme to dark I think, but it only changes the text edition window, not the rest of the UI...

    Hi,

I would love a editor wide dark mode too. The Combination of a white program and only the editor in dark is a horror for the eyes.

I wanted a dark mode before, but now I want it even more, to see that joke make it into the SP release presentation. Classic!

Yes, exactly... I have a clue about the why not... But really, it was many years, releases ago...

Agree, this is not a functionality customers would pay for, but it's one rendering the product cool and contemporary. Like many other "simple" features like:

      • Opening multiple projects within the same IDE
      • Not just attaching, but editing diverse files inside the IDE (like XML, TXT, SVG?)
      • Use 3rd, CODESYS independent plugins, editors inside the IDE...

Isn't it possible to integrate CODESYS Engineering under VS? Or just use the core functionality from VS? Or the LINUX guys have a better idea?

yeah a proper dark mode across the entire IDE would be ideal.
    Make it so number one!

maybe the compiler of the IDE can only use this color and other colors have to be licensed?

But seriously, I agree with the request.

and other colors have to be licensed?

    Introducing Code-Based Licensing
Code Basic S: White text w/ grey background (ST only)
Code Basic M: White text w/ dark gray background (ST Only)
Code Basic L: White test w/ black background (ST Only)

Code Standard S: 2 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ black background. (ST Only)
Code Standard M: 4 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ black background. (ST only)
Code Standard L: 6 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ black background. (ST only)

Code Performance S: 2 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ user definable background. (Entire IDE)
Code Performance M: 4 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ user definable background. (Entire IDE)
Code Performance L: 6 Colors of light syntax highlight colors w/ user definable background. (Entire IDE)

    You get the gist...
I used to be a big fan of CoDeSys. Recent re-entry after 5 years away, not so much.

CODESYS IDE is not a modern IDE. Its interface is ugly, its operation is not user-friendly, its functions are lacking, its feedback is slow, and its development is not good enough. In fact, CODESYS is a helpless choice under the current situation. But this situation will not last long. For example, SIMATIC AX is a strong competitor of CODESYS, which is more open and inclusive.
