I am looking for an example of how to run 2 applications on 1 device that would have global variables shared between the two apps. In this case what I am trying to do is to have the main program logic run as one application and then have the visualization run as a second application. I find this https://us.store.codesys.com/media/n98_media_assets/files/000013-F/0/Multiple%20Applications_en.pdf, that talks about exactly what I want to do, but I can't find the download. The main reason I want to do this is for download speed. Right now it takes at least a minute to download our application to the PLC. A simple program downloads to the PLC in a very short time, but add visualization and the download time gets much longer. If I could download the program separately from the visualization I think that a simple program change would take very little time to download. I have tried create a GVL in the POUs view. This partly works in that both applications can see the GVL, but they each create their own instance of it and the variables are not shared between the two apps. There are ideas of using OPCUA but this raises problems with licensing and having to move any variable that needs to be shared into the Symbol Configuration. This adds a lot of management to keep this up to date. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

Hi, I'm trying to launch a continuously running python script from Codesys and monitor the script status inside the Codesys runtime (running on a Linux enviroment). For now I'm testing with the below to emulate a continuously running Python script: #test.py i = 0 while True: i += 1 I'm able to successfully run the script using SysProcessExecuteCommand2 (I can see the Python process running in the task manager). However, this "freezes" the Codesys execution of the task - it sits on that command and will not continue until the Python script ends. I've proven this works by using the task monitor to kill the process, then Codesys continues on happily through the task. What I want to do is use SysProcessCreate2 to set up the Python script as a background task and monitor the process using SysProcessGetState. This always results in the error "ERR_OPERATION_DENIED". I know that I'm able to execute commands (as above), so my config should be correct. Is SysProcessCreate2 functional on a Linux environment? Is there something in the config file I'm missing? Hello, Up until yesterday (2023/11/20) I was able to connect to the PLC remotely with no issues through Edge Gateway. However, today I can see the Edge Gateway online but I can find the PLC even if I do a network scan. Following the same path as janber0206 @ https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/automation_server/thread/e78b11d7e9/, I looked into certificates and found that one of the Trusted publisher certificates has expired earlier today (2023/11/21). Please see image. Questions are: Does it affect the connection to the PLC through Edge Gateway? How do I fix it? Thank you very much in advance!

Is there any commands that allow to edit the "Properties... >> Access Control" of the POU? The other possibility is to set the permissions with "Project >> User Management >> Permissions... >> Project objects >> Modify >> ... >> myPOU", but I did not find the related Python commands. Hello, I was wondering if there is a way in codesys to exclude the traces from the search when using the "ctrl+F" window ? That would be nice to improve the search functionnality when looking for a specific variable. Sometimes when I iterate through all occurences with the "find next" button, it opens the trace configuration window. I would expect to be able to close it and go to the next occurence with the "find next" button, but after closing the trace configuration window the search says it has reached the end of the scope (even if in reality there are other occurences of the variable elsewhere). I tried to enable / disable the "search up" checkbox but it's not changing anything. I hope somebody have insight on this, BR

Hello Fraziersedge, the solution of Codesys might be to update your codesys to the lastest version but it was not possible for us. In our Codesys V3.5 SP9 patch 8 I was able to fix this bug. I change my ModbusTCP slave component version or one of the sub component version (ex: SysSocket). Look at the picture in attachement that's the receipe that have work for us. When I got the bug my version of ModbusTCP slave was 3.5.5.0 with SysSocket at 3.5.6.0 and I change to ModbusTCP slave 3.5.14.0 with same version 3.5.14.0 of SysSocket event if I still use codesys V3.5 SP9 patch 8.

Hi, I'm experiencing a bug with the latest version of SoftMotion CNC library (4.17), where the 3DPath object in Visu is missing all the important properties. I've verified that a previous app I was working on with library version 4.16 did not have this issue and the issue is duplicated in that project when I update it to 4.17. I've already submitted a bug report, but for the time being I need to revert the project I'm currently working on back a revision. I've tried right clicking on the library but the option to select the version is greyed out. Can anyone help me?

Unfortunately I noticed that, and tried: * using CryptoGeteAlgorithmByID within the function call * inputting the raw byte pointer as a testByte * instantiating the _hHash handle within the function body * using a different cryptoID or the raw DINT values from the RtsCryptoID DUT ... to no avail. The pReturn value is also set to 0, which would indicate that it is OK, right? This is odd given that the function is the same within the CryptoDemo example project here, just with a newer version. Is it possible that there is something wrong with the way my bytestring is being set up? I tried to include librarymanager like that: from scriptengine import librarymanager visual studio code detected an error. It said librarmanager could not be found. Indeed in the stub file, this was library_manager. But if I change it in my code, the plugin doesn t work anymore. I found an easy solution to this problem. I ve just changed the copied stub files.(library_manager -> librarymanager) But I think it would be better if you update it yourself in the future.

Looking at the help (https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Development%20System/_cds_st_instruction_case.html). I don't think it is possible but I figured I'd ask. I'm looking at have a case that evaluates two variables, instead of having multiple If Else statements I was hoping I could just use a case. Example * Case Var1 & Var 2 of 10 & 10: Instruction Code 10 & 20: Instruction Code 20 & 20: Instruction Code End_Case Obviously I tried typing as noted above and Codesys threw an error. But I was wondering if there was a different way of programming to make something like this work? If not I'll just use a bunch of If Else Statements, Thanks.

I have a WAGO PLC, to which I am establishing a connection. Here I use the autodiscover to register the connected modules. Now, I have tested the in-/outputs of the different modules, to verify they are consistent with how they are physically connected to the PLC in regards to how CODESYS has numbered them. Will CODESYS always number the modules closest to the PLC itself lowest, and the one furthest away, the highest? I am rather new to the program, so I both hope my question makes sense, as well as not being completely obvious. Thanks!

Hello, I am already able to run an OPC UA method in Codesys. Now my question, how can I interact with other tasks (e.g. read an SDO from EtherCAT and return it by the function)? The OPC UA method seems to be called only once (I tried to return BOOL or UINT values). Up to now I only found to do a while loop to wait for the result of the other task. Is there a better way to do it? Is this the way OPC UA functions should be used (for "not too long" function calls) or should I use another mechanism (method: Start, event: Finish, method: getResult)? Regards

Hi! I was thinking of switching the OPC server config from "Symbol Configuration" to the "Communication manager" in the device tree. I Have a lot of arrays of structs that I have previously declared in the "Persistent Variable" object in the device tree. It seems as it is not supported to directly expose persistant variables to the OPC server like the "older" way of doing it in the symbol config. Is this correct? Do you recommend to just do it the old fashioned way, or should I edit the structure of the global variable list / persistant data / OPC server and set up the OPC server from the "Communication manager" object?

Hello, I am using Codesys on an industrial pc with a single monitor. I would also like to have a separate vision software running on the PC and would like to display it half screen. When I run the soft PLC the my visualization screen appears full screen, I would like to be able to set the size of the visualization screen so I can display other software on the monitor. Is it possible to set the width/height of the targetVisu? Anyone try something similar? I would like to avoid having to put it on a Virtual Machine. Thank you

I'm trying to export my whole project through the option ExportPLCopenXML. It seems working, but when I'm trying to import the xml I have the following error during the importation process: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. It seems a usual issue with this process that affects to the pointer to user classes inside a procedure. I receive this error for two general functions that have this pointer declarations in the VAR_INPUT section. It seems a bug into the export/import process of CodeSYS and I couldn't skip it so far.
