In reality, other vendors are already moving towards integration with VS Code. B&R, for example, is likely the only one that could truly challenge Codesys in the market: they’ve overhauled their once-archaic environment (previously lacking ST OOP) and are now catching up significantly with Automation Studio Code, offering modern programming capabilities and native support for tools like Git and GitHub Copilot. The other big names in the market, frankly, are still light years behind. For smaller projects, typically handled by “wire strippers” (with all due respect!), a classic environment might be just fine. But once you’re dealing with thousands or even millions of lines of code—possibly organized in an OOP paradigm, spanning large teams, integrating third-party libraries, requiring version control, and performing comprehensive tests—a lightweight, responsive editor supercharged with AI-based features becomes essential. The real strength of something like VS Code lies in its vast ecosystem of extensions and integrations: from advanced Git support to automated build/test pipelines, and even AI-assisted autocompletion that already makes software development much more agile and productive. I understand that a PLC project involves more than just ST code (task setup, fieldbus configuration, libraries, etc.). However, there’s no technical reason not to at least provide ST files in a pure text format, making version control and collaboration far easier. B&R has clearly adopted this approach; I hope Codesys will accelerate its own efforts to offer a native, text-based integration and modern development tooling. Once you go beyond a certain level of complexity—dozens of configurations, OOP hierarchies, and distributed teams—you really do need “engineer-level” software tools, not just solutions targeting “wire strippers.” For large-scale automation projects, a more open and flexible approach is the only way to avoid chronic frustration. Let me emphasize that I truly love Codesys and consider the work done so far to be brilliant—I’d be sorry to see it overshadowed by others moving faster in this direction.

I had this code working in a previous version of CoDeSys to read variables from a GVL that were added to the Symbol configuration. The problem now is that when I get the _IBaseTreeNode_Parent, it returns a valid interface, but none of the methods or properties work. If you monitor the _IBaseTreeNode in the watch window, it does show the correct child count. However, it fails at step 30, where the child count incorrectly returns zero. In the image, you can see that the watch window displays the correct value that the property should return. Attached is the full project code. In my machine's operation, I need to display multiples tables containing arrays of structured variables. The arrays change during operation, and my supervisor has advised me to write a new bubble-sort for each array. I think I can make a function to sort an array of any data type. This was my own project, and I'm a relatively new coder. I want to know the weaknesses in my approach, and a better method, if one exists. As far as I can test, the function accepts an array of a structured variable of any size, and sort it by any VAR in that structure. But it relies heavily on pointers, which I've heard are bad practice? Hi All, Recently I have been experiencing a issue in CodeSys SP16 Patch 3, with a exception which comes up after I have made several online changes. callcallback() iec exception caught cmpid=0x00000002, eventid=0x00010008, after I experience this fault then I receive a error message for any subsequent online change "online change failed, no task gap within 10000ms". To recover either the controller needs a orgin reset, which will allow online edits thereafter until falling back into the loop. I am using a TURCK TX707 product which is controlling robot trajectory, We have hard coded the coordinate data rather than using persistence variables so hence the need to do online changes consistently. I have read on the forum other people have experienced similar issue with the online task gap, but I have no task which have same priority and also monitored the CPU usage and have not seen it go above 13%. Anyones help would be much appreciated, thankyou.

Hello, I hv a problem. Couldn't solve this for 2 days now. So I'm quite new at CodeSys and I have to use the spi port x30 on the edgelogix rpi 1000. So what I have to do is just 'add device' at the SPI where I hv to pick the 'SPI master' after that I hv to change the parameters according to the edgelogix I did found in the spidev.h but nothing got updated so I 'add device' again where I pick the PiFace I/O Driver and I put my variables at the I/O Mapping, which i put the input startbit at the in part and led at the out part. I want to make the led blink according to my structured text code but somehow the hardware didn't connected with the CodeSys spi port. Nothing happens. Any idea what I have to do?

We are experiencing serious jitter issues on an ARM64 imx8. Until now, on rpi and beaglebone derivatives, and on Intel, we never encountered jitter issues unless they were already present on the device. In this case, as can be seen from the attached graph, we have excellent maximum latency. The cyclictest on the isolated core dedicated to IEC CODESYS tasks shows a latency of 37µs, with an average of 14µs. Usually, on all other devices, with an RT kernel, with the appropriate parameters to avoid frequency throttling, with properly managed IRQs, and with the disabling of large page sizes, the jitter measured by CODESYS is very close to the cyclictest latency. However, on this imx8, we are noticing a fluctuating value of +/- 300µs that seems to be added to this latency, as if something occasionally miscalculates the sleep times by exactly +/- 300µs. Hi! I´ll try to get this thread going again as i´m having simliar problems. Right now i get a red triangle on my connected devices (i´m testing with a BME280 sensor and a PCA9685 resvo driver). The TCA9548 have the green symbol beside it. On the "red" devices i get that the bus is not running. I have tried to either run it using the parent bus cycle setting or creating a new freewheeling task prio 1 but nothing helps. I have compared my settings to the settings from the example from the MUX package and i have read (i think) every thread in forge that could be of interest. EDIT: The ic2detect only shows the mux (70-70) and the servo drive (70-76) so i´ll look in to if i managed to burn the 280-sensor while soldering). Another question regarding the 280 sensor. I have a sensor GY-BM E/P 280 that should record humidity and temperatur. Could this be a problem with the library? Does anyone have an idea of what i might be doing wrong? I have some experience from Codesys but not much so this could be an easy one. All suggestions are welcome. I tried to upload the project archive but it did not work. Should i upload the export or how could i show you my horrible project? Best, Martin

Solved EN: The Problem is that the Codesys Edge-Gateways have a License with a runtime of an half year, as long the Gateways are online they will self renew themselfs. In my Case the RevPi was more than a year offline and so the Edge-Gateway was not working anymore. The solution: I accessed a laptop that was directly connected to the RevPi. I installed the Codesys service tool and renewed the certificate manual. DE: Das Propblem ist das die Codesys Edge-Gatways eine Lizenz haben die nur ein halbes Jahr gültig ist. Solange das Gateway eine Internet verbindung hat aktualisiert sich das Zertifikat von alleine. In meinem Fall war das Gateway aber über ein Jahr offline und hat somit nicht mehr funktioniert. Die Lösung: Ich hab auf einen Laptop von Kunden mit TeamViewer zugegriffen, der Laptop wurde mit Kabel direkt mit RevPi verbunden. Codesys Service Tool installiert und dann das Gatewayzertifikat aktualisiert.

Hi all :) I have an plc. This plc has option to be as slave device. There are TCP -> Serial Slave Device and COM -> Serial Slave Device. There are 4096 ModBus holding registers with mark "internal modify" for the both devices above. So, COM Slave has 4096 registers and TCP Slave has 4096 registers. And, finally, I have an ARRAY[0..4095] OF WORD. This array glued with COM Slave and TCP slave. Yes, I need plc's opportunity to be communication both TCP and COM ways for the same registers. For example, the next task structure: * TASK_0: 1. pou_READ_Registers 2. pou_0 3. pou_1 4. ... 5. pou_N 6. pou_WRITE_Registers At the first pou I read registers for the other pous, after job we have sort of state of the plc. At the last pou (6) we write modified registers. It is a good scenario: some one wrote registers for the job, after job we save these (modified) registers. But, what if registers wrote between 1 and 6 pou by operator, for example, at the 3 pou -> the last pou 'pou_WRITE' will rewrite this request from operator. What the right way to work with this logic? Thanks you.

Hallo zusammen, hi all, ich habe den gleichen Fehler. Auf einem Raspberry Pi geht der Fehler weg, wenn ich alles bereinige und dann vollständig übersetze. Wenn das Projekt im Codesys Development System wieder neu geladen wird ist der Fehler aber wieder da. Mit eine Win V3 x64 PLC kann ich den Fehler nur unterbinden wenn ich auf der HMI das VUM_Login einbinde. Dieses brauche ich aber nicht, da ich die HMI für das User Management selbst gestaltet habe. Das funktioniert auch. I have the same error. On a Raspberry Pi the error goes away if I clean everything and then compile completely. When the project is reloaded in the Codesys Development System, the error returns. With a Win V3 x64 PLC I can only prevent the error if I integrate the VUM_Login on the HMI. But I don't need this because I designed the HMI for user management myself. That works too. Anyone have an idea to fix this problem. Many thanks

Hi, I have successfully deployed "Virtual Control SL" on a few x86/64 machines now. However, I'd now like to deploy this to a Raspberry Pi (ARM64). To do this I prepared the Raspberry Pi5 with the following prereq's; * Minimal PREEMPT Debian * Latest Bootfirmware * full SSH access via non-root account * Podman * RedHat Cockpit with CODESYS LicensServer plugin up and running However, I can't seem to resolve copying the correct (deploy) Images as they wont show up in the CODESYS IDE I have added CODESYS Virtual Control for Linux SL and the CODESYS LicenseServer for Linux SL via the CODESYS installer on my DevBox. I open CODESYS > Tools > Deploy Control SL Next I enter the SSH targets IP and Credentials and for my RPi5 and it shows "Connected". In the next tab, Deployment, the dropdown box only shows one (1) image, which also is the incorrect CPU architecture. Only Virtual Control AMDx64 shows up (!?) while I expect to see the ARM64 based images for both Edge and Control. Has someone encountered this too? Request: I seek guidance on how to resolve this issue so that the Web Browser in the Visualization toolbox correctly interprets and displays the data URI content. Noob alert! I’m just getting my feet wet with CODESYS. I have a “Hello World” project in the CODESYS IDE. I’m using the Win SoftPLC on the same computer. I’ve added a Communication Manager under the Application node. Under that is “OPC UA Server -> IEC Symbol Publishing 01”. I also added “OPC_UA_Symbols -> Information Model”. I’m not sure I need the second thing. I was grasping at straws. I also set up several dummy symbols in the IEC Symbol Publishing 01 node. In my C# application, I am trying to get an instance of EndpointDescription from CoreClientUtils.SelectEndpoint(“opc.tcp://localhost:1217/Gateway-1”, useSecurity: false, 15000). I wasn’t sure about the “Gateway-1”. I found that in the CODESYS IDE under the project -> Communication Settings. When I execute the previous method call in C#, I get: “BadSecureChannelClosed”. I have no idea what that means. Any pointers to documentation are welcome.

Hello, I have a robot configured as a Generic Ethernet Module under Ethernet/IP Scanner. I can not see the change of state of the outputs coming from the robot on the codesys side in real-time. (The robot has it's own internal program that would changes the values of remote outputs 0-3 off and on). Also when I send data down to the inputs of the robot it doesn't transfer over as expected. As an example I'll send to the robot's input bit 0 a value of 1. It doesn't see that value change. However, when I write that input bit 0 back to a value of 0, the robot changes state and shows a value of 1. And if I change the state of a different bit, the other bits update properly, except for the bit that I changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and if anything else is needed let me know.

Hallo all I would appreciate some clarifications regarding the appropriate runtime system to use. I've been using 'KUNBUS CPUs' and 'CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL' for the last 4 years. Recently, there have been some changes in the CODESYS licensing policy. [ https://store.codesys.com/en/howto_applicationbasedlicenses ] My questions are mainly two: 1) If I need to start a new project using 'KUNBUS CPUs', which is the correct runtime system to use. 2) Old projects built using 'CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL' should be updated to another RT system? Current RT systems ... a)CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi MC SL b)CODESYS Control for Linux ARM SL c)CODESYS Virtual Control SL May I count on receiving an explanation to understand the differences among the runtime systems listed above? Hello! I have asked the few I know who have knowledge of this and now turn to this one inexhaustible source of knowledge aka. the electronics forum. I was going to buy stepper motors yesterday but got so confused about the spec that I need to get an answer to this first. 2 different stepper motors, quite close in size but with very different spec. https://www.oyostepper.de/goods-40-Nema-17-Schrittmotor-Bipolar-12V-18-Grad-40Ncm-04A-12-Volt-4-Dr%C3%A4hte-Hybrid-Schrittmotor.html https://www.oyostepper.de/goods-38-Nema-17-Schrittmotor-Bipolar-18-deg-22Ncm-133A-28V-4-Dr%C3%A4hte-Hybrid-Schrittmotor.html Both Nema17 but the first 1.33A and 22Ncm and the second only 0.4A but almost double the torque. I can see that the resistance is very much higher on the latter but what's the catch? Double the torque to 1/3 the current sounds a little too good to be true so what am I missing?
