Hello all, First post. I recently acquired an RPI zero W from amazon, and have been using it with Codesys v3.5 SP19 patch 2. I first got it working yesterday, and after installing the runtime on the Pi, I was prompted to install the edge gateway. Installation of the edge gateway failed because of unsupported architecture, undeterred I was able to connect to the pi and program as I wanted. The issue I've noticed is that if I do not load anything to the pi overnight, I can then no longer connect to the pi and download, although I can still ping it from my pc. I found that if I power cycle the PI, I am then able to connect again, and it works as normal. I did some googling and found instances where people recommended downloading the newest edge gateway, which brings me here. Wondering if there are any suggestions, or if this is a known issue. I actually tried installing all 3 versions of edge gateway for science, but all fail with the same message. Thanks -Dan

Hello, I was trying to create a redundancy POC for our application where we read data from few modbus tcp devices. As there is a limitaion that modbus tcp device support only for single master device, we wanted to test how the variable sync happens in redundancy mode. For that i have used the redundancy sample code added a variable "b" under a condition. What i observed was while active controller is running, if passive controller is powerup, passive controller is able to sync all the data configured for redundacny. But after that the variable data which resided under a condition is not synching from active to passive controller. I have attached the image where i have highlighter the variable. Can some help me to understand how redundacny work in codesys soft plc and if there is a solution to sync variable which are under condition, please explain the same or suggestion to achieve the same. Hardware - Raspberry Pi (2 qty) Redundancy licence used - yes in both controllers. Codesys runtime - 4.9.0.0 Codesys software version - V3.5 SP19 if i have posted this question in wrong section, please do let me know in whcih section i have to post this question.

As I wrote before on the title, I have difficulties to connect to see webvisu from localhost. The story: while waiting for the plc+hmi to arrive, I'm preparing the software, mainly the visual parts trough the control Win3 x64 (same version as the ide 3.5.20.10). The problem is that I can't see the webvisu with the installed webbrowser. I don't know if this is a problem, but I changed the port to 9001 (randomly "free") because 80, 8000, 8080, 8088, 3000 are all occupied by other projects (all on the Apache server). Is there something wrong with the config file? This is the url: localhost:9001/webvisu_app.htm and here the config file part "CmpWebServer". [CmpWebServer] ;The handling of startup/shutdown of the webserver: ;0->automatically start, shutdown only on shutdown of the runtime;1->automatically start, could be shutdown on demand ;2(default)->start/shutdown on demand;3->start on demand, shutdown only on shutdown of the runtime StartupType=0 ;The TCP port the webserver listens on WebServerPortNr=9001 LocalAddress=localhost ;LocalAdapterName=LAN-Connection LocalAdapterName=EthernetPCPLC ;LocalAdapterNameUnicode=L\00A\00N\00-\00C\00o\00n\00n\00e\00c\00t\00i\00o\00n\00 LocalAdapterNameUnicode=E\00t\00h\00e\00r\00n\00e\00t\00P\00C\00P\00L\00C\00 Thanks for all the help!

Hello everyone, I wanted to write here because it is a similar and the most up-to-date topic. I want to connect to CoDeSys Win V3 x64 - 3.5.19.50 with OPC UA using WinCC Advanced V17. (Or to a PLC with CoDeSys Version 4.10.0.0) My settings are exactly the same as the previous comment. I even tried many different settings. I can access all CoDeSys OPC UA variables via TIA Portal IDE and add them to my HMI tags. When WinCC RT Advanced is started, it gives a warning that the connection could not be established and does not update the variables. I can connect to Inovance AM600 using CoDeSys Target version 3.5.11.50. (The same version Win x64 is also connected.) However, a security setting in the current versions prevents me. I would be very happy if those who have up-to-date experience on this issue and find a solution share it. The CoDeSys Security Settings which I can access variables with TIA Portal: CommunicationPolicy: POLICY_BASICSHA256SHA256 CommunicationMode: ALL Activation: Activated UserAuthentication: ENABLED Server Certificate: Valid until 2034 Greetings.

Hello, I am trying to create an Ethernet/IP device that can read analog signals, do some basic logic on it and then hand communicate the results to an Ethernet/IP master. I am using the Raspberry Pi to experiment with this as I would ultimately like to drive a display as well. I have loaded up the runtime on the Pi and got the digital I/O working. I have an ADS1115 ADC to I2C board and I can't get it to work, I get a message telling me the i2c master is not running and I am not sure where to start with this. Is there a manual for running CODESYS on the Pi or something like that I am missing? I found this post and opening the project in CODESYS V3.5 SP21 it seems like tons of this wouldn't convert properly https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Runtime/thread/f1400b71b6/ I have added in the library and device manually and copied the structured text program but lost at what to do if the core functionality of the master is not running. I appreciate any help, thanks.

Hi everyone, Iâm completely new to CODESYS and have been teaching myself. And i Want to control an Axis using SM3RaspiStepper. Following the example on the RaspiStepper home page, I set up an axis through a POU and tied the SMC_StartupDrive (Visu) template to my axis instance (sud). Unfortunately, the motor never moves and I donât see any pulses on the PULSE pin (GPIO 23). Hardware -Raspberry Pi 4 B -Nema 17 stepper motor -A4988 stepper driver (EN pin permanently tied to GND) Software / Runtime -CODESYS 3.5 SP21 Patch 1 â Raspberry Pi runtime (demo) -SoftMotion in demo mode -Package: SM3_RaspiStepper 0.0.0.6 Axis parameters: Pulse pin GPIO 23 Direction pin GPIO 24 Enable pin 0 (unused) Disable pin 0 (unused) Whether I start the axis from the visualization template or through Online Config Mode, the motor never spins. In Online Config Mode I press Power â the state changes from Standstill to Discrete_Motion, but the motor shaft is still locked and no step pulses appear on GPIO 23 (checked with a scope). I can provide screenshots of the Visualization, PLC logs, or wiring pictures if that helps. Any ideas on what I might be missing? Happy to provide screenshots, project files, or scope captures if that helps. Thanks in advance!

I am CODESYS neophyte getting my wheels on. My goal is to re-platform an existing PLC application written in 61131 ST I've got the majority of the code/variables in a compilable form - excluding all the IO and comms nuances I am not sure whether this the right forum An important functionality which I implemented on the other platform was totally dynamic modbus devices... Most configurations I have come across impose static MB configs in which all configured devices MUST be present and functional... I have monkeyed around with MB enough to know that herding a half dozen MB cats into a working config can be tricky. I just do them one at a time and dynamically turn them on/off in whatever combination is convenient with ID, IP, baud, parity etc being runtime tweakable. I am totally curious whether this is possible with codesys, or whether its device configuration corrals one into a static cage which requires re-building the code to support flexible variations. Best regards

I'm using the internal Port (GPIO) and I configured it in /etc/Codesyscontrol_user.cfg the following away: [SysCom] Linux.Devicefile.1=/dev/ttyUSB0 Linux.Devicefile.2=/dev/ttyS0 I'm using COM2 on Master configuration. I'm using a interface board from TTL/RS485 (bidirectional board), and it's works perfectly with other devices but not in CoDeSyS. I'm able to send data with python script and read it on my pc using putty, but when I use a modbus slave simulator to interface with codesys I always get red icons on master and slave. (Please find image attached). I'm pretty shure that this might be a bad parameter on my CoDeSyS runtime configurstion file. Can someone help me? I'm stuck and this is for my master degree certification.

I am at the stage where I wanted to use the Festo HMI screen, and have added a RemoteTargetVisu object to my application. After adding this object, I am no longer able to log in to the PLC as I get an Unresolved Reference warning for 'USERMGRUSERGETPROPERTY' towards the end of the download process. I was able to find this post (https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Visualization/thread/fc686a6cb2/) where the two possible solutions are to "set the placeholder to emtpy" or update the runtime. Problem is, I don't know how to do either of these things, as I'm still very green in Codesys land. I'd be happy to update the Festo PLC runtime, as that seems like the better option, but have not had any luck in finding a tutorial for this online. If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

I have a Raspberry Pi 4 we have been using for years to run CODESYS for development purposes. I recently have had to re-install the OS (Raspberry OS lite). The only change to the default configuration is not creating the "pi" user during install. I (apparently successfully) installed the 4.10.0.0 control on the Raspberry Pi. We have licences on a dongle. I am able to start the control. systemctl status shows it as running for a little while (exactly, precisely 30 seconds as per my tests, every time), then it becomes exited. I can restart the control, and the same thing happens again. Every time. In the brief moments it is running, I can log in to the PLC. Working fast and restarting the control many times, I have been able to configure users. I have been able to download my application. I have been able to run the application, and stop on a breakpoint. I have been able to connect with the licence manager and confirm the dongle is detected and licences are listed as OK. I see nothing wrong until the service just exits. I have found nothing in the logs. It is like the runtime just terminates with no error code or message after exactly 30 seconds. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I have a raspberry pi with a license installed, but Codesys stops after 2 hours, and when I start it manually I have the following message: pszInfo=!!!! no runtime license - running in demo mode(~2 hours) I tried using License Manager, and got the following message: Licensing info not available. There is no dongle attached to the device. I have this message frequently, and usually removing the content of /var/opt/codesys/.cmact_license makes it work. After doing it and restarting Codesys, I have an empty Softcontainer without my License. I tried using "Install license" using the .WibuCmRau file for the corresponding license and got the following message: Licensing info not available. The device does not support this service. I also tried using Additional Functions > Restore Licenses with the Ticket ID and got the following message: This device does not support automatic license backup. How can I reinstall the license to this Raspberry Pi?

To ascertain, I tried entering the incorrect credentials during which its clearly specifying that i have entered them incorrectly (which is why I am quite certain about the credentials being correct). I even tried going into Communication Settings > Device(drop down) > Change Runtime secuirity policy . However it again asks me for credentials which keep popping up again and again. I am thinking of upgrading the runtime to the latest version of 4.20 Will it cause any issues with the paid license? Please suggest me a solution. BR, Suyash

Hi, I am writing to you today because I would like to create a library that would contain a program with its various subprograms, in my example "PLC_PRG" with "a", "aa", "aaa". But once the library is created as shown below: I would like to be able to drag and drop my folder as many times as I want (let's say I manage the same system multiple times). Once the drag and drop is done, we can see the second folder with the variables renamed successfully. As shown below: But my variables in CAD_1 remain the same as for CAD, so it's PLC_PRG instead of PLC_PRG_1, for example. Is there a solution to automate this? I wouldn't want to have to rename all my variables manually, considering that in the program where I want to do this, the number of variables is substantial. Lucas.

Hi! I thought to hear what you guys think is the best way to test the program in my scenario. I have some PLC programs that have been made and deployed on different PLC's. The program has added the specific devices and IO that is applicable. I have made a test environment for everything outside of the PLC, ie. the same SCADA system that is talking to the PLC, and a program running locally is simulating the plant (level regulation of different tanks). Pr. now I have had to manually change the variables that are reading/writing values from the IO so they read/write via OPC instead. I also have to change the device tree from the specific PLC rack, to the soft PLC. So I kind of end up with two different programs that I have to maintain. I was just wondering if you believe there is an easier way to do this. So I can have the exactly same program and kind of switch between the soft mode, and the "real" mode.

I am trying to build and deploy my application to the PLC, but when I log in I get 6 errors (codesys_error.png). It seems that the errors have to do with the CmpDynamicText system library which I have as version 3.5.20.0. I have tried to add CmpDynamicText to the ComponentManager section in the PLC's CODESYSControl.cfg file as described in this forum post and still hit the same error. I noticed that the library is grayed out in the library manager, which I think might be the issue. However I don't remember if it was grayed out before I encountered this issue. Please let me know if I can provide anymore info. Thank you!!!

Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

Here, it seems to me that we are getting completely off track with the observed problem. If questions clarifying the details of the installation are problematic, it's best to include those details in the original question then... I had already written this elsewhere. The program before being brought into machines was exhaustively tested in SW emulation and the problem did not occur. Testing the full program in emulation is entirely different from creating a simplified program to isolate the function causing problems in the real world. I would recommend trying it to isolate the issue. The drive and motor have been working fine for about 10 years. In replacing the machine control system, I opted for CoDeSys where before there was something else. But this is not the subject of the problem A simple "yes" is the correct answer to my question here... Anyways, you seem to be a very knowledgeable expert, good luck on your problem!

Because of this error I am trying to implement the Syssocket library. With this library I am having a problem which I could not solve. I have the following code: ip_adres : STRING :='0.0.0.0'; port : WORD := 5000; iStep : INT := 1; // Socket information Socket_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_HANDLE; Socket_handler_result : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; Socket_adress : SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKADDRESS; Addres_Convert : SysSocket_Implementation.RTS_IEC_RESULT; // Bind information Bind_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; // Listener Information Listener_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; Addres_Convert := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockInetAddr(szIPAddress:= ip_adres,pInAddr:= ADR(Socket_adress.sin_addr)); Socket_adress.sin_family:= SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_AF_INET; Socket_adress.sin_port := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockHtons(usHost:= port); CASE iStep OF 1: // Create Socket Socket_handler :=SysSockCreate( iAddressFamily :=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_AF_INET, diType:=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_STREAM, diProtocol:=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_IPPROTO_TCP, pResult:=ADR(Socket_handler_result)); IF Socket_handler = SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_INVALID_HANDLE THEN iStep := 1; ELSE iStep := 2; END_IF 2: Bind_handler := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockBind( hSocket:=Socket_handler, pSockAddr :=ADR(Socket_adress), diSockAddrSize:=SIZEOF(Socket_adress) ); 3: Listener_handler := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockListen( hSocket :=Socket_handler, diMaxConnections :=1); END_CASE When I am trying to get this working, the SysSockBind function gives a value of 16#207 which means adress already in use. I find this weird because of the IP-adress of 0.0.0.0. I think I am converting the Ip-adress in the wrong way, but the code does not give a error arround this. So therefore I cannot find the solution to this problem. I hope someone could help me with this problem. Thanks in advance George

Im looking for a way to define predefined version of the same structures through "extends"/inheritance. What I want to do is best shown with an example: TYPE log_item_val_type : ( BOOL_ := 0, INT_, REAL_, STRING_ ); END_TYPE TYPE LOG_DATA_BASE STRUCT val_type : log_item_val_type; (* value, name etc *) ENDSTRUCT ENDTYPE (* this/below is not possible as I understand from the compiler?? *) TYPE LOG_DATA_BOOL extends LOG_DATA_BASE : STRUCT val_type : log_item_val_type := log_item_val_type.BOOL_; END_STRUCT END_TYPE TYPE LOG_DATA_INT extends LOG_DATA_BASE : STRUCT val_type : log_item_val_type := log_item_val_type.INT_; END_STRUCT END_TYPE etc. for LOG_DATA_REAL and ..STRING. The system will not allow me to "re-define" "val_type" however. Instead I must do the work-around of defining four different types with all fields individually defined. The benefit if I could extend the base item would be that Im (more) sure the structures are identical. In usage I can call in a specific type rather use the base type and assign which type. Usage by pointer/ref to log_data_base would also be easier.. (* Usage: *) log_data : log_data_int := (name, value etc.) (* Instead of: *) log_data : log_data_base := (name, value, val_type).. Is this possible to achieve in some way that I have missed?

Dear All, Dear CODESYS, I'm curiously following CODESYS transitioning away from the CAA libraries, and I'm mostly in favor of these major changes. Naturally, I'd like to align my current (not end-user) developments accordingly. I'm tracking , reading release notes, ... And want to figure out the future :) Is it possible to hear / read more about the reasons, objectives and scope of these changes? One important element is CAA Types - CAA Types Extern. What is the plan with that? What's the future of CAA.SEMA, CAA.BOLT ? I have never used them (always relied on SysLib*), but they are tempting... Would be useful to have a platform independent "Macro" for this functionality... Is there something in existing or planned ? Are they suitable to be used in low level libraries... For Example IO-Drivers, Components, "to-become system libraries"? CAA.TaskLock, CAA.TaskUnlock ? Well, they don't claim platform independency, so I can't rely on those.... Any up-to-date advise, standard, pattern to follow in new libraries for task and resource locking? Practical set of conditional defines to be used? If this information is not publicly available, can you please send a private message about the proper way to achieve this? I have support agreement, just couldn't get trough with these questions... Hi Folks, Every time I use an IFM controller I always seem to run into a problem connecting to it. I get the Communications Error (#0). So I thought I would share some tips and tricks. Once the CANfox Cable (EC2112) cable driver is installed, you can use the yellow app in the sys tray to blink the lights on the cable. Confirm the cable works in the IFM maintenance software by connecting to the controller and reading the information on it. Make sure to download an OS into the controller (the light will go from a fast blink to solid green). In Codesys V2.3, the communication settings for the CR0401 is 250kBaud by default and Node ID 127. What got me, was I needed to reboot the computer after the cable driver install. Also if your application has canbus settings in it which are changed from default, after the controller is power cycled, the new Node ID and Baud will be in effect. I made a handy guide because too much time has been wasted on this. Programming IFM CR0401 Serial/Can Programming Cable ⢠Connect IFM EC2112 CanFox programming cable with connector adapter. ⢠Make sure cable is linked to VM (if using VM). ⢠Install drivers for cable if not installed. o Download from IFM EC2112 site. https://www.ifm.com/ca/en/product/EC2112 ⢠Once Installed, reboot computer. ⢠In system tray, there should be a yellow icon that you can open and check on programming cable. Select the cable in the list and flash the lights to confirm it is working. Maintenance Software ⢠Install IFM Maintenance Tool Software. o Download from IFM Site. https://www.ifm.com/ca/en/download/eco100_MaintenanceTool ⢠Open IFM Maintenance software ⢠Select Basic System ⢠Select CAN cable ⢠It will tell you if you donât have a cable connected. ⢠Use Wizard if needed. ⢠Read Channel Parameter on the Settings page, or get Identity in the System Information > Identity. ⢠Default Node is 127 on a new unit. Baud is 250kBaud (bits/sec) ⢠Controller information should populate. ⢠Controller green light should be blinking at 5hz (meaning OK but no OS, just bootloader). ⢠Click Software > Load. ⢠Open the OS file. Should match Codesys version selection (for CR0401 this is version 3). o Download OS file from IFM Website. https://www.ifm.com/ca/en/product/CR0401 o It is located at the top of the download under âsoftware for CR0401â. o Select the file and load it⌠this will take a minute. ⢠Once completed the unit should now have a solid green light o Solid green means the controller has an OS but no application is running. Codesys V2.3 Application ⢠Codesys needs to be downloaded and installed from the IFM website as it has the IFM libraries and license to use the software. o Download from the IFM CR0401 page. o https://www.ifm.com/ca/en/product/CR0401 ⢠Create new application with the correct IFM controller or Open Codesys application. ⢠Keep in mind that the PLC Configuration on the Resources tab can be changed for the CAN communication interface⌠so changes to node and baud will take effect after the first download and reboot of the controller. ⢠Go to âOnlineâ in the top menu and change âCommunication Parametersâ o The Local dropdown shows the last configuration used. All other interfaces will show below it and need to be updated when changed or used. o Confirm Node ID is 127 for the first download. ď§ The NodeID will change to whatever the program has after (in my case 125). ď§ Node Send Offset should be default at 1536 ď§ Node Recv Offset should be default at 1408 ď§ Can bus Baudrate should be 250 kbaud. ď§ Yes to Motorola Byte Order ď§ Block Transfer should be false and note used (60 is default setting). ď§ Can Card Driver should match the systray item which is Sie_USB. ⢠If the system populated the other one, just update and relay the communication parameters. The software will usually bring up the available cable and driver. ⢠Go to âOnlineâ and Login to download. o Press Yes to Download Application. I hope this helps!
