Hi there, An "OPC Expert" client software is connecting to a Codesys Control RTE (x64) OPC UA Server. It reads only about 25 variables every 5 minutes. The OPC UA Server seems to shut down on the Codesys runtime. Is there any way to get information about the Codesys OPC UA Server status? Restart it? There is nothing in the PLC Logs after the OPC UA Server has started. It works for a while, then it doesn't. Any ideas? Any way of getting more info out of the Codesys OPC UA Server? -Bjarne

Hi All, I use the analysis page in automation server to capture historical trends from my PLC - i only sample one point per hour but it does the job (for now) One issue I have is I often log on to analysis page to find the system has stopped recording trends from my PLC. To fix this, I need to choose "state information" in the "List view" under PLC and click "Reconnect" When I do this I see my variables listed under "parameters" under "PLC Details" start updating again and the trend in Data analyzer continues to update. My Question, Why do I need to manually reconnect? Is there a way to get automation server to automatically reconnect to the PLC so I continue to capture data from the PLC? Regards, Trent

Looking at the help (https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Development%20System/_cds_st_instruction_case.html). I don't think it is possible but I figured I'd ask. I'm looking at have a case that evaluates two variables, instead of having multiple If Else statements I was hoping I could just use a case. Example * Case Var1 & Var 2 of 10 & 10: Instruction Code 10 & 20: Instruction Code 20 & 20: Instruction Code End_Case Obviously I tried typing as noted above and Codesys threw an error. But I was wondering if there was a different way of programming to make something like this work? If not I'll just use a bunch of If Else Statements, Thanks.

Hi, I tried some different libraries (CmpApp etc.) to find some global variables that I could read out as a variable in the codesys environment. Do any one of you know which libraries are best suited for this, and how I can read it out? My goal is to send messages, warnings etc. to the system that communicates to the PLC. Currently if something goes wrong I need to see the logfiles, or go online with the controller. I think I could save a lot of time if I could read the errors from our user interface that is connected to the PLC by TCP/IP.

We are experiencing serious jitter issues on an ARM64 imx8. Until now, on rpi and beaglebone derivatives, and on Intel, we never encountered jitter issues unless they were already present on the device. In this case, as can be seen from the attached graph, we have excellent maximum latency. The cyclictest on the isolated core dedicated to IEC CODESYS tasks shows a latency of 37µs, with an average of 14µs. Usually, on all other devices, with an RT kernel, with the appropriate parameters to avoid frequency throttling, with properly managed IRQs, and with the disabling of large page sizes, the jitter measured by CODESYS is very close to the cyclictest latency. However, on this imx8, we are noticing a fluctuating value of +/- 300µs that seems to be added to this latency, as if something occasionally miscalculates the sleep times by exactly +/- 300µs. Hello, I hope someone could help me. I installed the newest Codesys 3.5 SP 20 Patch 1. When loading the demo files from @i-campbell I can upgrade them to the latest version and everthing works on the OPC-UA client side as expected (object "a" is visible, I can use the "ExampleMethod"). Now I * remove the "Information Model", * delete the "OPC_UA_Symbols Objects", * Add "Information Model" again * add "TestRootObjectType" again and "Generate IEC declarations" * and search for mapped instances (to get instance "a" again) Very good still working as expected. Now I delete the OPC_UA_Symbols and add it again referring to the "objecttest" from 16.9.2020. Also I redo the steps from above. The result is now, that I can't see the "a" object in the "Root/Objects" folder. Why ist this and how can I make it running? I think, it could may be a different version of the UA configuration file. I tried to build my own model definition files and got the same problem (but I am really not an expert). When someone has a actual model, which is also running in the actual Codesys I would be very grateful. Or even better, how to make the correct model in e.g. UA Modeler SW (I followed the description https://documentation.unified-automation.com/uamodeler/1.6.0/html/howprojnet_sec.html).

Hello, I hv a problem. Couldn't solve this for 2 days now. So I'm quite new at CodeSys and I have to use the spi port x30 on the edgelogix rpi 1000. So what I have to do is just 'add device' at the SPI where I hv to pick the 'SPI master' after that I hv to change the parameters according to the edgelogix I did found in the spidev.h but nothing got updated so I 'add device' again where I pick the PiFace I/O Driver and I put my variables at the I/O Mapping, which i put the input startbit at the in part and led at the out part. I want to make the led blink according to my structured text code but somehow the hardware didn't connected with the CodeSys spi port. Nothing happens. Any idea what I have to do?

Hi! I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I have tried looking up previous topics regaring this, but even though I'm following tutorials and other posts I cant seem to get this to work consistently. I actually got the connection established on a test project after some trial and error. I only got it to work with the "Anonymous login". But after i deleted the test project and tried to get the same thing to work on another project I cant get it to work anymore. What I'm trying to do: Set up and OPC UA Server using CODESYS with the free soft PLC. I then try to connect to the OPC UA Server with the program "UaExpert". What happens: I get the error Error "'BadUserAccessDenied' was returned during ActivateSession". What I have done in CODESYS: - Added the object "Symbol configuration" and checked some test variables - Checked "Support OPC UA features - In "Communication settings -> device -> Change runtime security policy" I have checked "Allow anonymous login" What I have done in UAExpert: - Found the OPC UA server under "local". (It is showing two servers though, I do not know why. It showed the same when it worked yesterday). Se attachment - Checked "Anonymous" under "Authentication settings in the OPC UA server. I'm new to CODESYS, so it could be something elementary wrong in my settings. Maybe something in the user settings in CODESYS regarding user rights or something?

Im looking for a way to implement ST-code into the visualization element without creating a helper POU or method in my device/application tree. Like visualization properties are evaluated at each VISU_TASK cycle I want to be able to create own ST code which interacts with the visualization interface variables. To be more specific I want to have a property which executes user defined ST-code at each VISU_TASK cycle exactly like its already possible for Input Configuration on various mouse and dialog events. Also a property for initialization (so only executed once) and a timed property would be nice. With the situation right now I'll have to create a POU function which handles the ST-code and misuse a property, like the text variable, to execute this POU function at each VISU_TASK cycle. Or does it exist and I don't know it?

I have several libraries which contain values that should be saved on a PLC. As apparently no Persistent Variable List is available within Libraries, I use the Persistence Manager to create a Persistence Channel in the Project which imports the library. I then specify the persistence channel in the library using the {attribute 'ac_persist':='PersistenceChannel_CT'} specifier. This generally works very well and gives me exactly the properties I require. However, it came to my attention that the (alphabetially) first value from the library is not saved in the created ASCII file. When checking the content of the Persistence Channel, it shows all the variables as defined in the library. But the created file does not contain the first value and it is not restored after restart or reset. (see attached picture) I disabled Periodic Saving and set xSaveOnChange to TRUE and so the file usually updates immediately after changing one of the values. When changing the first value, it does not update which is consistent with this value not being saved. I also created a sample project and library from scratch which shows the same issue both using a Raspberry Pi and using a Linux machine. Does someone know what the reason for this could be or did someone make similar experiences? Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks in advance and best wishes Manuel

Hi! I thought to hear what you guys think is the best way to test the program in my scenario. I have some PLC programs that have been made and deployed on different PLC's. The program has added the specific devices and IO that is applicable. I have made a test environment for everything outside of the PLC, ie. the same SCADA system that is talking to the PLC, and a program running locally is simulating the plant (level regulation of different tanks). Pr. now I have had to manually change the variables that are reading/writing values from the IO so they read/write via OPC instead. I also have to change the device tree from the specific PLC rack, to the soft PLC. So I kind of end up with two different programs that I have to maintain. I was just wondering if you believe there is an easier way to do this. So I can have the exactly same program and kind of switch between the soft mode, and the "real" mode.

I am running ubuntu on a raspberry pi, and installed an application based license Control Basic M on it, it runs a demo program fine, does not timeout etc. however, when I add a modbus TCP device, I start getting errors: <Entry severity="error" component="CmpApp" user="nobody" timestamp="12/18/2023 3:49:42 PM" infoId="24">Online change denied. Application Application is in exception state!</Entry> <Entry severity="error" component="CmpApp" user="nobody" timestamp="12/18/2023 3:49:42 PM" infoId="68">Download failed: Application=Application</Entry> <Entry severity="exception" component="CmpApp" user="nobody" timestamp="12/18/2023 3:49:41 PM" infoId="0">Application app=Application has invalid license metrics!</Entry> the modbus tcp slave runs, and the counter ticks up, however, when I call the variables on the %IX0.0 in my program, and try to upload the changes, I am getting the error messages which stop the program as far as I understand, the application based, M includes 2 fieldbus instances, but on the other side is fairly new, anything obvious I am missing out here?

Hey guys, I'm very much a noob with networking, it's my achillies heel, and this is my first networking project using Ethernet/IP. Any help offered is GREATLY appreciated. I'm trying to network a Codesys Project with an Omron NX1P2 PLC. I'm using EIP due to hardware restrains. I've added the fieldbus, EIP scanner (as the master), and made a Network Variable List. On the Sysmac Studio end, I've made the variables and set them to network inputs/outputs, registered them in EIP settings, but when I try to set the target device (the Codesys project), I suspect I need to import an EDS file for the EIP mapping. Back in the Codesys project, I'm not sure how to: - Make an EDS file to share with Sysmac Studio - How to link the target device (Omron PLC) to the EIP fieldbus - How to map the inputs from the Omron PLC. Im sorry for my very open request for help, i'm kind of lost looking through the various forums/video/tutorials as many of them dont match what im trying to do. Any help, or sample programs would be so so greatly appreciated. If you need any further clarifications, please feel free to ask. Thanks in advance, Toby

I am trying to create an icon on an overview screen that depicts if an alarm group has active alarms, active acknowledged alarms, or inactive unacknowledged alarms (waiting for confirmation). I've attempted to set up Notification Actions in the Alarm Class to set variables based on state changes but have been unable to find a clean and effective way to do this. Because an action on any alarm will trigger the variable to be set as instructed, I'm struggling to find a way to configure it for what I need (ie if two alarms activate, then one deactivates, the variable for indicating an alarm is active would be cleared after the single deactivation). I've been pointed toward the Alarm Manager example project but I'm finding it too complicated to understand how to implement it in my own project. Has anyone come up with another good way to indicate the states of alarms or a simpler usage of the Alarm Manager functions?

Objective: I want to dynamically update the content with strings and JPEG images received from a TCP/IP socket. For this purpose, I am exploring the possibility of utilizing the Web Browser feature of the Visualization toolbox. Example: In a standard web browser, entering data:text/plain;charset=utf-8;base64,SGVsbG8gc3RyYW5nZXI= in the URL window will display "Hello stranger" on the webpage. Issue: When attempting to use this method in the Web Browser of the Visualization toolbox, the content does not display as expected. Instead, it shows the error:'Navigation to the webpage was canceled.'. Request: I seek guidance on how to resolve this issue so that the Web Browser in the Visualization toolbox correctly interprets and displays the data URI content. Alternative Solution Welcomed: Or, if it is possible to directly use Codesys Structured Text (ST) variables within an HTML page, this approach would also meet my requirements. Hi, We have a machine running Codesys on a Windows IPC (CODESYS Control Win v3 - x64). When we hard shutdown the machine, the code on the PLC sometimes becomes "corrupted" after a power on (When trying to login to the PLC, we get the message "The application 'Application' does not exist on device."). I've noticed these errors in the logs, but I'm not sure what to make of them. We are not using any RETAIN variables in our code, although I'm not sure about referenced librairies. (we are using the persistence manager). I'm pretty sure that not doing a graceful shutdown is the root cause of this. This being said, what is the proper way of doing a graceful shutdown? Is putting the Codesys application in "stop" sufficient? I know how to implement this, so if it works then it would be a quick fix. However, I think we need to add a UPS, which would detect power loss and inform the PLC that it needs to initiate its shutdown, and then the PLC would shutdown gracefully. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated :)

I do datastructures and algorithms in Codesys. For example a Struct of Person with thing's like IdNumber, Name, Age etc. as example. Now i do all kind of calculations, filters. So i have this pretty big Fixed Array with Structs. On this struct i want to do simple stuff you can do easily in C++/Python/Rust etc. For example i want to do this: AvererageAge := Average(Peoples.Age); Then it will return the average of all members ages. Or Sort struct on age etc. Or sort on alphabetical Name. Or use Lambda functions to filter/mutate out things like, filter out everybody above 18 years old. Or remove people who it's name start with "A". Currently i have to write my own custom function for example sorting on Age. And make a super specific function based on that particulare datastructure. Not really DRY code right? These are custom made bubble sort filters in a function. You pass in the Datastructure, and say what function you want. (This is an enum collection of sorting functions) And then the Array with Nodes of Structs gets ordered. Why can't we have Iterators and Lambda's and build in standard functions like regular languages? Also i use bubble sort because it's the easiest to implement because i can't get this to code DRY. Problem with ST (Even the new one with classes) that it's very limited for programming datastructures and algorithms. Yes you still not want dynamic memory and you need to choose the correct algorithm so you know the most extreme edge cases regarding the time it takes to execute the algorithms.(Real-time execution) How are other people dealing with this? Here for example saw some software using an adjusted ST language and having FOR EACH possibility: https://www.fernhillsoftware.com/help/iec-61131/structured-text/st-for-each.html You can then build your own custom Iterator functions. I wish the IEC 61131-3 standard would be more expressive and having more standard modern features, but still keep close to the fact of no dynamics memory and real-time systems.

You can, if you don´t want to store at PlcLogic, add the following line in the CODESYSControl.cfg under [SysFile]: ForceIecFilePath=0 The CodesysControl.cfg is at C:\ProgramData\CODESYS\CODESYSControlWinV3x64\xxPROJECT_NUMBERxx\ Here the email they sent me: "with the 3.5.19 Version we changed how files are handled. See following issue: CDS-81506 - CODESYS Control SysFile system file access vulnerability. There are two solutions: 1. You change where the file is stored (need to go to: /PlcLogic/) 2. Good day, I’m writing this message out of frustration regarding the current way project files are saved as encrypted XML and single-file format in CODESYS. I find this approach to be quite tedious for several reasons: Limited Access to Structured Text: Not being able to access Structured Text (ST) externally makes it impossible to work with alternative editors like VSCode. Tools like VSCode are incredibly responsive and feature advanced systems such as GitHub Copilot, which would be a real game-changer when working with ST IEC. While CODESYS works well for small code snippets or debugging, when the codebase grows, switching to VSCode to boost productivity becomes essential, and copy-pasting between environments is a cumbersome workaround. Poor Integration with Git: This file format also makes it very difficult to integrate effectively with Git. I have tested the internal demo, but for advanced merges, it is unusable. Without properly formatted plain text, it’s impossible to leverage the vast ecosystem of external tools around Git that allow smooth merges in heterogeneous teams. File Corruption on Network Drives: I often work from multiple locations with shared network drives. When the development environment saves a file and something goes wrong midway (which can occasionally happen when using VPNs and network drives), the entire project becomes irrecoverable. There’s no way to cancel the save process, and the development environment freezes. This has happened to me at least four times over the past two weeks, and one of those incidents cost me an entire day of work. All of this is particularly disappointing because I truly believe that the libraries, runtime, and overall work done by CODESYS are exceptional. I find it fantastic that there is a platform allowing development of PLCs and control systems using OOP, which is a huge advantage in modern control engineering. I apologize for the rant, but this issue has been extremely frustrating. Best regards.

Hello, I am new to Codesys and PLC programming in general (please go easy ha!) I'm not looking for code to be written for me just some help and pointing in the right direction. I am writing some code to send commands to a relay based on input values (to put it simply). Quite basic stuff. I have wrote a function block that takes a global variable (Open_command:BOOL) and outputs to another global variable (Opened : BOOL). The function block is simulating a device so I'll eventually get the globals from that. I now need to create multiple versions of this function block/ device (lets say 100) but I need each iteration of that function block to reference it's own relevant global variable. I think that the best way of doing this would be to use arrays, although I could be wrong. I am aware that for up to 100 instances I could very well manually assign everything but that seems rather time consuming and I want a fancier way of doing it. Here is a very basic example of what I am looking to do, please note I have not written this in proper code it's just to show what I mean. Global Variables V[0-100] int Open_command [0-100] Bool Opened [0-100] Bool Function Block var input x : BOOL Var output y : BOOL if x then y = TRUE ELSE y = FALSE The input to my function block will be Open_command, output will be Opened Example code. If V[x] > 10 then Open_command [x] = TRUE ELSE Open_command [x] = FALSE (So when V1 goes above 10 I need Open_command1 = TRUE therefore initiating FB1 output. V2 > 10, open_command2 = True > FB2 output V3 > 10, open_command3 = True > FB3 output ... ... ) What I can't seem to figure out is how to tie all this together, I have read through the codesys documentation and if anything it has confused me more! ha. I’m currently working on establishing a TLS connection with an MQTT broker using the MQTT Client SL package in CODESYS. While I’ve successfully established communication with the broker without TLS, I'm encountering issues when trying to enable TLS. In the 'MQTT Explorer' application, I can easily upload the server certificate (.crt), client certificate (.crt), and client key (.key). However, in CODESYS, I can’t find a way to upload my client key (.key file). Here's a summary of my current setup: Certificates: I have uploaded both the client and server certificates to the certificate store under the 'Trusted Certificates' folder in the security screen. TLS Context Initialization: Despite setting the _sCommonName as the name of my client certificate, a new self-signed certificate is created and placed within the device’s certificates. I then need to manually move this certificate to the trusted certificates folder. I am currently trying this on the only 2 compatible versions of COSDESYS with my controller (V3.5.15.20 and V3.5.18.40) My Question: How do I correctly set up this mTLS connection? What might I be missing? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially considering I’ve already successfully established a non-TLS connection with the same broker. After starting program CAN 2 interface is properly open. The xSend variable is toggling with period 2s. When program sends data an "Tx overflow" error appears. When I am watching CAN_H line on DSub 9 socket i am not able to see proper CAN frames - see screenshot attached to this message. Could somebody help me determine what is wrong with this program. Dear folks, I think I have a rather simple question but I could not find the right answer to my question: I have made with Excel a CSV file where I would like to have some general data regarding my program variables. I have made an program what let me read the file. The string I am currently get is at follows: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R$NPort_number;2000$R$NCycle_time;43$R$NStart_Standard_IO;20$R$N' Now I want to split the string in multiple part, which I later would connect to the right variable. I understand that the Find() function returns the first value the $R$N in the Received_string_without_BOM. I expected that the outcome the following was: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$'. However the outcome is: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R'. I do not understand where the R after the $ sign comes from, because its place is 24 so it would not be added to the part_of the_string[index]. If I hard coded value 24 for the size it gives me the following return: 'IP_Adres;192.168.45.12$R$N'. I would expect everything till the R but the code adds the $N also to the string. I hope someone could explain to my what I am seeing wrong in my point of view? With kind regards, George

I have a need to send messages between 2 PLCs and I cant use network variables (because of size limit) so I tried writing this simple test program. This seems to work fine. I can send messages back and forth when a first "Start server" and then "Connect client". See the attached image. However, if I disconnect the client by setting ClientConnect to false and try to re-connect then the TCP_Client just gives me TIMEOUT error. When I stop and start the server again, then Im able to reconnect. How is this supposed to work? Why reconnecting wont work. There is not other way of disconnecting the client than setting xEnable of the TCP_Client to false. This is just a testing program and I will try it on 2 seperate devices once this works.
