Also had this problem when working on legacy project. My packege was CODESYS Code Generator ARM 4.0.3.0.package. To manage this I used PackageManagerCLI.exe. After some more digging I realized that I get an error on the PLC Logger saying PersistenceChannel: 150 (invalid type in data: SimpleLibrary). I suppose the issue could be found in the ConfigData, which is automatically generated and which looks like this: 1 9##83 SimpleLibrary#GVL.aMoreZeros.[1]#0#64512#15#0 <[2]#0#64520#15#0 <[3]#0#64528#15#0 <[4]#0#64536#15#0 <#0#64544#15#0 <[6]#0#64552#15#0 <<lrVar#0#64560#15#0 <strVar#0#64428#16#80 <uiDummy#0#64370#11#0 Perhaps the fact that the variable is stored within a library confused the compiler? I tried changing the PersistenceChannel parameters to xCompressTags := FALSE which changed the entry in the data file from _xCompressTags BOOL:TRUE _xCompressTags BOOL:FALSE but the actual content of the data file and also the config data did not change.

The issue s the byte order typically in this case. Can be especially problematic with floating point numbers - even more tricky if transferred with a word based protocol. It is a peasant way to try out the alternatives, dword order can be a-b-c-d, b-a-d-c, c-d-a-b, d-c-b-a where a is the most significant, d is the least significant byte. So all you need is to swap the bytes in your dword, until you get the expected result. If you don't want to mess writing code for this, I'd recommend CAA_Memory library for that: MEM.ReverseBYTEsInDWORD and MEM.ReverseWORDsInDWORD functions would definitively do the trick. Otherwise, can do like this: VAR dwIn : DWORD := 16#11223344; dwOut : DWORD; rOut : REAL; pIN : POINTER TO BYTE; pOUT : POINTER TO BYTE; END_VAR pIN := ADR(dwIn); //pOUt := ADR(dwOut); pOUt := ADR(rOut); pOut[0] := pIN[3]; pOut[1] := pIN[2]; pOut[2] := pIN[1]; pOut[3] := pIN[0]; Ugly, but does the job...

Thank you for your advice Rinie, I have tried to follow this example but found one problem.When I disconnect with Hercules the system does not acknowledge the lost of its connection this could result in critical errors. Because of this error I am trying to implement the Syssocket library. With this library I am having a problem which I could not solve. I have the following code: ip_adres : STRING :='0.0.0.0'; port : WORD := 5000; iStep : INT := 1; // Socket information Socket_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_HANDLE; Socket_handler_result : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; Socket_adress : SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKADDRESS; Addres_Convert : SysSocket_Implementation.RTS_IEC_RESULT; // Bind information Bind_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; // Listener Information Listener_handler : SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_IEC_RESULT; Addres_Convert := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockInetAddr(szIPAddress:= ip_adres,pInAddr:= ADR(Socket_adress.sin_addr)); Socket_adress.sin_family:= SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_AF_INET; Socket_adress.sin_port := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockHtons(usHost:= port); CASE iStep OF 1: // Create Socket Socket_handler :=SysSockCreate( iAddressFamily :=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_AF_INET, diType:=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_STREAM, diProtocol:=SysSocket_Interfaces.SOCKET_IPPROTO_TCP, pResult:=ADR(Socket_handler_result)); IF Socket_handler = SysSocket_Interfaces.RTS_INVALID_HANDLE THEN iStep := 1; ELSE iStep := 2; END_IF 2: Bind_handler := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockBind( hSocket:=Socket_handler, pSockAddr :=ADR(Socket_adress), diSockAddrSize:=SIZEOF(Socket_adress) ); 3: Listener_handler := SysSocket_Implementation.SysSockListen( hSocket :=Socket_handler, diMaxConnections :=1); END_CASE When I am trying to get this working, the SysSockBind function gives a value of 16#207 which means adress already in use. I find this weird because of the IP-adress of 0.0.0.0. I think I am converting the Ip-adress in the wrong way, but the code does not give a error arround this. So therefore I cannot find the solution to this problem. I hope someone could help me with this problem. Thanks in advance George

Hallo zusammen. Der Code sieht wie folgt aus: // Configure trace IF xInit THEN // Create a trace packet PacketConfig.pszName := ADR('IECTraceConfiguration.Trace1'); // Name of trace PacketConfig.pszApplicationName := ADR('IECTraceConfiguration'); // Name of the application PacketConfig.pszIecTaskName := ADR('Task'); // Name of the task PacketConfig.pszComment := ADR('Demo packet'); PacketConfig.ulEveryNCycles := 1; PacketConfig.ulBufferEntries := 1000; PacketConfig.ulFlags := TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS.TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS_TIMESTAMP_MS AND TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS.TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS_AUTOSTART; IF (NOT fbTraceManager.CreatePacket(PacketConfig := PacketConfig, hPacket=>hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF // Create a trace record RecordConfig.pszVariable := ADR('iSignal'); // This is the name of variable to record RecordConfig.tcClass := INT_TO_UDINT(TypeClass.TYPE_INT); // Type of the recording variable RecordConfig.ulSize := SIZEOF(iSignal); // Size of the recording variable pApp := AppFindApplicationByName('IECTraceConfiguration', 0); AppGetAreaOffsetByAddress(pApp, ADR(iSignal), ADR(RecordConfig.tvaAddress.taAddress.Area.usArea), ADR(RecordConfig.tvaAddress.taAddress.Area.ulOffset)); // Get and set area offsets RecordConfig.tvaAddress.ulAddressFlags := TRACE_VAR_ADDRESS_FLAGS_IEC OR TRACE_VAR_ADDRESS_FLAGS_AREA_OFFSET; RecordConfig.ulGraphColor := 16#FF00FF00; // green RecordConfig.ulGraphType := 1; // Line with points IF (NOT fbTraceManager.AddRecord(RecordConfig := RecordConfig, hPacket := hPacket1, hRecord => hRecord1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xInit := FALSE; END_IF // Starts the recording IF xStart THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.StartPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xStart := FALSE; END_IF // Stop the recording IF xStop THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.StopPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xStop := FALSE; END_IF // Reset the recording IF xReset THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.ResetPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xReset := FALSE; END_IF

Hello everyone. I've been struggling with the problem for a long time that I can't reset (restart) a trend (visual element). With the example I have now managed to control the trace recording via the CmpTraceMgr library. But how do I get this trace recording into a visual element? The code looks like this: // Configure trace IF xInit THEN // Create a trace packet PacketConfig.pszName := ADR('IECTraceConfiguration.Trace1'); // Name of trace PacketConfig.pszApplicationName := ADR('IECTraceConfiguration'); // Name of the application PacketConfig.pszIecTaskName := ADR('Task'); // Name of the task PacketConfig.pszComment := ADR('Demo packet'); PacketConfig.ulEveryNCycles := 1; PacketConfig.ulBufferEntries := 1000; PacketConfig.ulFlags := TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS.TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS_TIMESTAMP_MS AND TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS.TRACE_PACKET_FLAGS_AUTOSTART; IF (NOT fbTraceManager.CreatePacket(PacketConfig := PacketConfig, hPacket=>hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF // Create a trace record RecordConfig.pszVariable := ADR('iSignal'); // This is the name of variable to record RecordConfig.tcClass := INT_TO_UDINT(TypeClass.TYPE_INT); // Type of the recording variable RecordConfig.ulSize := SIZEOF(iSignal); // Size of the recording variable pApp := AppFindApplicationByName('IECTraceConfiguration', 0); AppGetAreaOffsetByAddress(pApp, ADR(iSignal), ADR(RecordConfig.tvaAddress.taAddress.Area.usArea), ADR(RecordConfig.tvaAddress.taAddress.Area.ulOffset)); // Get and set area offsets RecordConfig.tvaAddress.ulAddressFlags := TRACE_VAR_ADDRESS_FLAGS_IEC OR TRACE_VAR_ADDRESS_FLAGS_AREA_OFFSET; RecordConfig.ulGraphColor := 16#FF00FF00; // green RecordConfig.ulGraphType := 1; // Line with points IF (NOT fbTraceManager.AddRecord(RecordConfig := RecordConfig, hPacket := hPacket1, hRecord => hRecord1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xInit := FALSE; END_IF // Starts the recording IF xStart THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.StartPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xStart := FALSE; END_IF // Stop the recording IF xStop THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.StopPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xStop := FALSE; END_IF // Reset the recording IF xReset THEN IF (NOT fbTraceManager.ResetPacket(hPacket := hPacket1)) THEN xError := TRUE; END_IF xReset := FALSE; END_IF

First, if you don't need to change conversion rules in runtime, take a look at "Unit conversion" module (Application -> add object -> UnitConversion). You can specify there biderectional conversion with different units, limits and so on. Second, since MODBUS don't have "real" types but only general 16-bit registers and Real is 32-bit, generally you need a byte-was conversion Real <> two Words. Note, that depending on the devices on both sides, there are two options: Real-> Word1, Word2 or Real-> Word2, Word1, where Word1 is minor register in Modbus register pair and Word2 is major. You can use simple union: TYPE u_Real : UNION rVal:REAL; wVal:ARRAY[0..1] OF WORD; dwVAL:DWORD; //same as previous, may be easier to specify the MB register END_UNION END_TYPE and convert it as following: VAR myUnion:u_Real; rValue_TO_SEND:REAL; rValue_TO_GET:REAL; END_VAR myUnion.rVal:=rValue_TO_SEND; rValue_TO_GET:=myUnion.rVal; Note, that WORD-order should be properly set in MODBUS registers, otherwise you will get strange values. This tool is helpful: https://www.scadacore.com/tools/programming-calculators/online-hex-converter/ Alternative, you can use functions as REAL_TO_DW and DW_TO_REAL from OSCAT_BASIC, for example.

Post by danp1406 on Question about Demo License limitations for Modbus TCP communication and Fieldbus Instances
CODESYS Forge
talk
(Post)
Hello everyone, I am currently working with CODESYS Virtual Control for Linux running in Docker on a Debian virtual machine. I am deploying my application using Deploy Control SL, and in my project I am using the ModbusFB library to implement Modbus TCP communication. My setup is the following: I am trying to establish a Modbus TCP connection between a virtual PLC (CODESYS acting as Modbus TCP Client/Master) and a Siemens S7-1200 PLC acting as a Modbus TCP Server. From the Debian VM, I can successfully ping the S7-1200 and verify that port 502 is open using tools like nc. Network-wise, everything appears to be correct. However, when running the application in CODESYS, I receive messages such as “Demo mode for Modbus/TCP Master started. Will expire and stop!” and socket errors like “ClientSocket.UpdateStatus socket error 111 disconnecting.” The ClientTCP block from the ModbusFB library attempts to connect, but the connection does not remain stable. My main question is whether the CODESYS demo license explicitly limits or interrupts Modbus TCP Master communication. Is it expected that in demo mode the runtime will automatically close sockets after some time or prevent stable Modbus TCP connections? I would like to confirm whether this behavior is normal when using ModbusFB in demo mode, or if I should continue troubleshooting the configuration. Additionally, I would like clarification regarding the “fieldbus instances” mentioned in CODESYS licensing options (for example, 2, 4, or 16 instances). What exactly is considered one fieldbus instance? Does one Modbus TCP Client block count as one instance? Does each active connection to a different device count separately? Do Modbus TCP Master and Server count independently toward the total number of instances? Finally, I would appreciate clarification on any other practical limitations of demo mode when using industrial communication libraries such as ModbusFB. Are there limits on the number of connections, number of requests, or communication duration? I am trying to determine whether demo mode is sufficient for testing a virtual PLC communicating with a Siemens S7-1200 over Modbus TCP, or whether a full license is required even for this kind of validation scenario. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

What I do (one-shot, before xEnable := TRUE): fbSecurityGroup.SetInitialValue( 'http://opcfoundation.org/UA/SecurityPolicy#PubSub-Aes256-CTR', PSB.SECURITY.SIGNING_AND_ENCRYPTION); stSecurityCfg := fbSecurityGroup.GetConfig(eErrorID => eError); // eError=NO_ERROR, udiEncryptionKeySize=32 eError := fbSecurityGroup.SetSecurityKeys(udiTokenId, ADR(abyKey), SIZEOF(abyKey), 2436001000); // eError=NO_ERROR, SIZEOF=68 // writerGroup.itfSecurityGroup := fbSecurityGroup -- set in the WriterGroup block's Parameters (a per-scan code write got overwritten) What I verified eError = NO_ERROR after both GetConfig and SetSecurityKeys; udiEncryptionKeySize = 32. Key length = 68 bytes (signing 32 ‖ encrypt 32 ‖ nonce 4). itfSecurityGroup is set via the WriterGroup's Parameters (so it isn't clobbered each scan). Init runs before xEnable (the writer doesn't run with xEnable=FALSE). The UADP.writerGroup FB exposes only itfSecurityGroup for security — no SecurityMode/MessageSecurityMode property. Result: the published datagrams are still plaintext — ExtendedFlags1 = 0x01 (security bit 0x10 clear), no security header: b1 01 29 00 0f 16 00 … (PublisherId 41, WriterGroupId 22, RawData, no security) Questions With UADP.writerGroup, is assigning a configured + keyed PSS.SecurityGroup to itfSecurityGroup sufficient to enable message security, or is there an additional step/property/method to switch the WriterGroup to SignAndEncrypt? At what point in the WriterGroup lifecycle is itfSecurityGroup read? Must it be assigned/keyed before xActive, and does the group need a stop→start to pick it up? Is there a required call order, and does SetSecurityKeys need to be called once or repeatedly? Should security be configured on the Connection/Configuration level rather than (or in addition to) the WriterGroup? Is there a working example of secured (SignAndEncrypt) programmatic UADP publishing with this library, or a known limitation in 1.3? How can I read back at runtime whether security is actually active (via itfDiagnostics or similar)? Additional information I can confirm that the consumer side works — i.e. a standard subscriber decrypts the same keys fine — so the keys/profile aren't the issue. To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
