Post by garyl on Comments in arrays and assigning RST coil's to 600 outputs

Hello all, im working on a project that requires me to convert an old automation direct DirectSoft PLC d2-250-1. One of the problems im encountering is that all of the comments are attached to members of the different addresses. When i convert the addresses (1777 "C" registers, 777 X registers, and 20,0000 V registers) im running into difficulties keeping the inputs/outputs correct since they are missing documentation. Is there a good way to retain the comments of the indexes in the array? Secondly, initially i was declaring the "C" and "V" addresses individually and this worked to retain the comments as to which register did what, however i ran into a problem when one rung reset (or set to 0) approximately 600 C Addresses. Since each tag is separately declared this proved to be nearly impossible without a literal wall of code that attempted to crash the program. So i converted all of the registers (C,X,Y,V) into separate structs, declared them as arrays and pointed all of the original call outs in the program to the newly defined structs. However i have now lost comments and the program is very hard to follow. Thanks for any help with this issue.

Thanks! As far as I can see, the client can only send words. And on the server side there are an array for each of the functions: bool for coil and discrete, word for holding and input registers. I assume I can use holding register, then use bit mapping on the words instead of coils. But I really want to use the FC15/coils.

Hi everyone, I just created a very simple library without any code and, added it to my very simple project. after adding this library, I get an error when I try to open "Symbol Set" in "OPC UA Server" in "Communication Manager". Here is the code of my POU in the library: FUNCTION_BLOCK POU VAR eCommand : (CMD_NONE:=0, CMD_RESET:=-1) INT := CMD_NONE; END_VAR Attached is the error that I get. I also noticed that by removing the enumeration variable above (eCommand), I can open the "Symbol Set" again. Anybody has any idea why this error is raised and how could I use enumeration variables without error in "OPC UA Symbol Set"?

Hello, I have a simple TON timer. It is watching prime loss for a pump. The operator can set the delay via the HMI, it is an integer (seconds) As the TON uses milliseconds, we then multiply the entry by 1000 to get seconds. Seems simple, but... VAR PrimeTimer : TON; primetime : INT; END_VAR PrimeTimer(in:=State>0 AND FlowRate<MinimumFlow,pt:=INT_TO_TIME(primetime *1000)); For an entered 15 seconds (VAR primetime:=15;) the timer reads 49d17h2m26s760ms !!!! Hello everybody! We are currently working on implementing a call to an API that tracks data sent to it through a JSON body. Versions: CODESYS V3.5 SP19 Patch 7 using IIOT Libraries SL license, specifically JSON Utilities SL version 1.13.0.0. For simplicity, let's say we want to construct the following JSON body for our request (simplified to just 1 key-value pair in each of the array objects to keep things shorter, but we'd have multiple fields in each in reality): { "id": "machine_1", "readings": [ { "temp_mid": 153.8 }, { "temp_mid": 98.3 } ], "status": "RUNNING" } However, our "readings" data is added over time, not in creation, so calls to the builder would be somewhat out of order. In a simplified manner, our calls would look like this: jsonBuilder(pJsonData := JsonData, diRootObj => rootJsonIndex); // rootJsonIndex = 0. // Set "id" at root JSON object. wsValue := "machine_1"; jsonBuilder.SetKeyWithValue("id", wsValue, diParentIndex := rootJsonIndex); // JSONData KEY: diParentIndex = 0 & diIndex = 1, VALUE: diParentIndex = 1 & diIndex = 2. // ... Time passes, we get our first reading to add ... // The "readings" array does not exist yet, so we make it first at root JSON object before adding our first reading. readingsJsonArrayIndex := jsonBuilder.SetKeyWithArray("readings", diParentIndex := rootJsonIndex); // JSONData KEY: diParentIndex = 0 & diIndex = 3, VALUE: diParentIndex = 3 & diIndex = 4. // Then add the first reading, for which we first have to make an object. readingsJsonArrayObjectIndex := jsonBuilder.SetObject(diParentIndex := readingsJsonArrayIndex); // JSONData OBJECT: diParentIndex = 4 & diIndex = 5. // And then we add the field(s) in the object for the first reading. // NOTE the use of `readingsJsonArrayObjectIndex` so we set the field(s) in the first object in the array. rValue := 153.8; jsonBuilder.SetKeyWithValue("temp_mid", wsValue, diParentIndex := readingsJsonArrayObjectIndex); // JSONData KEY: diParentIndex = 5 & diIndex = 6, VALUE: diParentIndex = 6 & diIndex = 7. // ... Time passes, we want to add another root-JSON-level field ... // Set "status" at root JSON object. wsValue := "RUNNING"; jsonBuilder.SetKeyWithValue("status", wsValue, diParentIndex := rootJsonIndex); // JSONData KEY: diParentIndex = 0 & diIndex = 8, VALUE: diParentIndex = 8 & diIndex = 9. // ... Time passes, we want to add a second reading ... // "readings" array exists, so add the second reading, but first we have to make another object. // NOTE the re-use of the earlier stored `readingsJsonArrayIndex`, so we add the new object to that previously created array. readingsJsonArrayObjectIndex := jsonBuilder.SetObject(diParentIndex := readingsJsonArrayIndex); // JSONData OBJECT: diParentIndex = 4 & diIndex = 10. // And then we add the field(s) in the object for the first reading. // NOTE the use of `readingsJsonArrayObjectIndex` so we set the field(s) in the SECOND(, new) object in the array. rValue := 98.3; jsonBuilder.SetKeyWithValue("temp_mid", wsValue, diParentIndex := rootJsonIndex); // JSONData KEY: diParentIndex = 10 & diIndex = 11, VALUE: diParentIndex = 11 & diIndex = 12. // ... Finally, we want to send to the API, so we must convert the builder to data the client accepts as a body ... xTestWriteToJsonArray := TRUE; jsonArrayWriter( xExecute := xTestWriteToJsonArray, pwData := ADR(jsonDataString), udiSize := SIZEOF(jsonDataString), jsonData := JsonData^ ); IF jsonArrayWriter.xDone THEN // The writer was successful, the `jsonDataString` VAR should now contain a WString copy of the JSON object from the builder. xTestWriteToJsonArray := FALSE; END_IF We see that the JsonData STRUCT is correctly organised (in terms of the diParentIndex & diIndex set by it for each JsonElement) as we expect, as outlined in my comments in the simplified code above. However, as soon as we pass it to the jsonArrayWriter (which is a JSON.JSONByteArrayWriter), the resulting jsonDataString does not match our expectations, instead coming out like this: { "id": "machine_1", "readings": [ { "temp_mid": 153.8 } ] } { "temp_mid": 98.3 } "status": "RUNNING" The behaviour of the JSONByteArrayWriter thus seems to be the problem here. It does not seem to correctly process the children of JsonElements that are ARRAYs when additions to them are done broken up by additions to the lower level JSON OBJECT they are a part of. We have confirmed this by changing the order of the calls in our example to add both readings before adding the "status", in which case we get our expected outcome. However, in reality this is not possible for us - additions to any of the JSON's objects, arrays or array objects may happen at any time after other fields elsewhere in the JSON have been added. Does anyone know a way around this, a fix, or knows a solution we simply have not found? This same phenomenon was also noted on this forum by user @ryusoup at the end of 2023 (https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/c45929e2f1/#e27f) and user @mtho in early 2024 (https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/cd1bb450db/#1292) but both topics received no activity beyond both users' opening posts. Looking through the release notes of all the versions of the JSON Utilities SL library, I also did not see any remarks on resolutions of bugs in this vain. Thanks in advance for the assistance!

Hello, I tried to run the example project from https://forge.codesys.com/prj/codesys-example/alarm-manager/home/Home/ However, I can not get the interface for Alarm History 12 Alarm Manager client to populate with any alarms. 'udiResult := AlarmManager.g_AlarmHandler.RegisterClient(itfAlarmManagerClient12, ADR(arritfAlarmsFromHistory12), iMaxCountAlarmsFromHistory12);' when I look at itfAlarmManagerClient12 its always empty. What is confusing is that when I simulate 2 alarms, iCountActiveAlarms 12 has a vlaue of 2, associated with itfAlarmManagerClient12 - so that appears to work. And yet, its useless as the ProcessAlarms Function can't extract anything from the empty array. I dont understand how these arrays are supposed to be populated and why its not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If I am understanding what you are saying, then yes that would be your problem. I would create an array of bools on the client side for the transfer and try that. Or if client can't be changed then use words on server and unpack. But I am not sure if you or I are mis interpreting but it sounds a bit jumbled. I don't know what you have control of, but, if you are turning on BITS in the server, you should write to BITS in the client with a Function 15. If you are writing to WORDS in the server, you should write to WORDS in the client with a Function 16.

Hi all :) I have an plc. This plc has option to be as slave device. There are TCP -> Serial Slave Device and COM -> Serial Slave Device. There are 4096 ModBus holding registers with mark "internal modify" for the both devices above. So, COM Slave has 4096 registers and TCP Slave has 4096 registers. And, finally, I have an ARRAY[0..4095] OF WORD. This array glued with COM Slave and TCP slave. Yes, I need plc's opportunity to be communication both TCP and COM ways for the same registers. For example, the next task structure: * TASK_0: 1. pou_READ_Registers 2. pou_0 3. pou_1 4. ... 5. pou_N 6. pou_WRITE_Registers At the first pou I read registers for the other pous, after job we have sort of state of the plc. At the last pou (6) we write modified registers. It is a good scenario: some one wrote registers for the job, after job we save these (modified) registers. But, what if registers wrote between 1 and 6 pou by operator, for example, at the 3 pou -> the last pou 'pou_WRITE' will rewrite this request from operator. What the right way to work with this logic? Thanks you.

Post by rmarco on Generic Variables and FDB
CODESYS Forge

(Post)
Hello everyone, I am running into a highly frustrating issue in the FBD editor regarding a Function Block with generic constants (VAR_GENERIC CONSTANT). I created a FB using ST, with a generic var, useful for having a variable sized array, as follows: FUNCTION_BLOCK Coil VAR_GENERIC CONSTANT maxEvents: USINT := 5; END_VAR VAR events: ARRAY[0..maxEvents-1] OF IEvent; END_VAR These FBs have also several methods. I declare them as follows in code: VAR coil1: CDL.Coil<(maxEvents:=1)>; END_VAR and when using them in ST, I have no problems. However, when trying to use them in FDB, I do not know how to do that, as some strange misalignment happens. Here's what happens: When I add the block to my FBD canvas and assign coil1 as the instance name, the compiler throws this error: 'coil1' is not an instance of 'CDL.Coil<(maxEvents:=1)>'. Same occurs when I try to instantiate blocks such as 'coil1.turnOn' or similar. Here is what I have already tried, none of which worked: - Deleting the <(maxEvents:=1)> parameter from the text inside the FBD box. - Deleting the block entirely, dropping an "Empty Box", and typing coil1 above it to let the IDE auto-complete and format the block. - Running a full "Clean All" and rebuilding the code. I am aware that I could bypass the graphical editor by calling it in Structured Text. However, I need to keep this logic compatible to FBD. Has anyone encountered this specific FBD parsing bug with generic variables? Thanks in advance for any insights. Best regards, Marco

I'm looking for a smart and short way to implement initialization of visualization variables depending on the visualization input. For an easy example consider a rectangle which rests at XPos := 0 when the input state is false and at XPos := 50 when the input state is true. My visualization variables look like this: VAR_IN_OUT State : BOOL; END_VAR VAR XPos : INT; END_VAR I put this rectangle via a visualization frame element into another visualization and link a frame reference variable with the state to it. If the variable is true, the rectangle should rest at XPos := 50 and false at XPos := 0 at visualization init but how should I assign the 50 or 0 to the internal visualization variable XPos? I would need some init-methode for the visualization but I dont want a global init-method for such tasks. I want to do it inside of the visualization element but I can't see any solution for this? It would be good to be able to define ST-code within the visualization element which runs cyclic at each VISU_TASK task-cycle then I could just check the input state and change the XPos accordingly. Does someone have a solution?

Subject: Solution: CODESYS Freezes Linked to Large Symbol Configuration (OPC UA) Hello everyone, I was experiencing the same problem as many here: CODESYS (v3.5 SP20+) freezing during compilation and download, especially on projects that use OPC UA for SCADA. The only workaround was to run Build > Clean all before every download. I believe I have found the root cause and a permanent solution. The Problem: The issue is directly related to a large Symbol Configuration. In my project, I only need about 700 tags for OPC UA, but the Symbol Configuration list was showing over 250,000 tags. This is because it automatically includes all variables from Global Variable Lists (GVLs) and other memory areas. When any static variable is changed, the IDE tries to rebuild this enormous list, causing it to freeze for several minutes. The Solution: Instead of letting CODESYS export every variable by default, you can use a pragma to tell it which variables or GVLs to exclude from the symbol export process. Place the following pragma at the top of any GVL or data structure that you do not want to be part of the symbol configuration: 1 {attribute 'symbol' := 'none'} 2 VAR_GLOBAL 3 // All variables in this GVL will now be excluded from the 4 // Symbol Configuration by default. 5 InternalVariable1 : INT; 6 InternalVariable2 : BOOL; 7 END_VAR After adding this pragma to all the GVLs that were not needed for OPC UA, the number of tags in my Symbol Configuration dropped to the correct amount. The compilation and download process is now fast again, with no freezing. This method is much more efficient than manually managing the symbol list in the editor. I hope this helps others who are facing this frustrating issue. Best regards.

To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
