We are creating helper function blocks for our VFD(EtherNetIP). How should I set it up so that I can pass the device into and out of the Function Block so that ideally I can access the IO of the device by devicename.channelname. So something like for example we have a VFD with a start bit that is in the ControlWord channel and a SetVelocity that is a channel. And we want to create a Function Block called StartVFD. So I declare something like: FUNCTION_BLOCK StartVFD VAR_IN_OUT device: ioDrvEthernetIP.RemoteAdapter; END_VAR VAR_INPUT velocity : REAL; So in the code it would look something like device.SetVelocity := velocity; device.ControlWord.6 := True; We have a pretty basic eds file for our VFD and can update it if necessary. I think I understand my problem. They are most probably related to configuration of the network. When I use DHCP for the unit to my router it all works. However when using static IP I have not managed to reach functioning state. Trying to replicate the situation on my desk. Having a static IP on the "debian host" and a connection to my computer which then routes traffic on to internet. I have entered settings for gateway and netmask. I can ping from my "debian plc host" to internet and also do "curl google.com" so traffic seems to find its way through and back, still "Automation server" will not find the gateway. Any hints how a manual configuration should be done? Is it possibly a "firewall" issue of my "normal router"? Thanks for any help! Per

Since parameterized (indexed) properties are not possible, I decided to use architectural approach "Indexing Property Adapter" to achieve the intended goal — avoiding code duplication for validated access to array elements. Essence: Create a Function Block Adapter (FB_PropertyAdapter) that encapsulates the logic for working with a single element of the target array (e.g., with one settings structure). Declare Properties inside the adapter block for accessing each individual field of the data structure. All validation logic is implemented within the Set accessors of these properties. Data Binding via VAR_IN_OUT: The adapter block receives a reference to a specific data element from the global array through its VAR_IN_OUT section, which ensures direct work with the original data without copying. Create an Array of Adapters: In the parent POU (e.g., FB_SettingsManager), an array of these adapter blocks is created — one for each element of the global array that needs to be managed. Initialize Bindings: In a FOR loop, each adapter instance from the array is given a reference to the corresponding data element. Result: This approach allows accessing the data via the index of the adapter array, and then through the property name, which simulates the behavior of an indexed property: MyAdapterArray[Index].MyProperty Thus, the validation and data access logic is written only once inside the adapter block and is then reused multiple times by creating instances of it in an array. This completely solves the problem of code duplication while providing a clean, scalable, and object-oriented architecture compatible with standard CODESYS features. Question closed.

Also had this problem when working on legacy project. My packege was CODESYS Code Generator ARM 4.0.3.0.package. To manage this I used PackageManagerCLI.exe. This tool does not validate certificates appearently. Hi all! I'm working on an home project using a Raspberry Pi 3 device with Codesys for Raspberry Pi 64 SL runtime. I would like to create the HMI interface with Siemens WinCC Unified (or Advanced) configuring the Raspberry as OPC UA server. I tryed everything, but I didn't find the way to let the OPC UA connection works using UaExpert. I tryed to use anonymous connection, authenticated connection and the ip address instead of the server name in the path connection. There is no way to connect to the OPC UA server and I was asking myself if this feature is really supported for the runtime version used. Another strange thing I noted, is that is not possible to quickly create an OPC UA certificate in the Security Screen, as show in any tutorials. I have correctly created the Symbol Configuration enabling the OPC UA feature. I attach to this topic some printscreen of the actual configuration (sorry for the italian language interface, but I didn't find the way to switch to english). In the official document, IoDrvEtherCAT.DCInSyncWindow is explained as the toleration of a certain jitter. But the official document doesn't explain what kind of the jitter is. Is it the jitter of DC sync deviation, master timer or something else? It is very important to know the insights of IoDrvEtherCAT.DCInSyncWindow. For example, if it is the toleration of DC sync deviation, and the official recommending value is 200us for CODESYS SoftMotion. It means maximum of DC sync deviation is 200us. It is unacceptable for some high precision motion control tasks, for example high speed gear task, etc. Increasing the value of IoDrvEtherCAT.DCInSyncWindow will increase the deviation of motor rotation sync if it is the toleration of DC sync deviation. So, would anyone tell me what the insights of IoDrvEtherCAT.DCInSyncWindow is? Thanks.

Hi, supporting a text based storage format is on our roadmap, see https://www.codesys.com/the-system/releases-updates-lifecycle/release-plan-roadmap.html It will be an Add-On feature called "File Based Storage" for the professional developer edition. Structured text POUs will be stored as plain text. Other graphical languages will remain in an xml format. You will be able to switch the storage type for projects. Certain workflows will become easier this way. Nevertheless restrictions will remain because of CODESYS specific storage logic (for example how methods below function blocks are stored as file). So merging using our Git Integration Add-On remains the recommended workflow. A workflow involving Visual Studio Code as the main IDE is not supported. Simply because many topics like library management, task configuration or fieldbus configurators are not available for VS Code. A PLC project is a lot more than just some ST POUs. Best Regards

Hi SLUCodesys, dwErrorId is a drive specific error number. The drive documentation should be consulted to interpret it. (Note that you should use MC_ReadAxisError to read this error, see https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/libs/SM3_Basic/Current/SM3_Basic/POUs/Diagnostics/MC_ReadAxisError.html. Accessing the internal variable will result in outdated values if the acis error is not mapped by PDO and is not recommended in general.) uiDriveInterfaceError holds errors of the SoftMotion driver for the drive. It is also an internal variable, not intended for direct access. It is intended for logging, the PLC log will contain the drive interface error, consisting of this number and an error text. My recommendation for handling axis errors in the CODESYS application: 1) Use MC_ReadStatus on the axis to find out whether it is in state Errorstop 2) If in Errorstop, there are two possibilities: an error reported by the drive (MC_ReadAxisError) or an error of the SoftMotion function blocks (output MC_ReadStatus.FBErrorOccured). 3) If there is no drive error, you can use SMC_ReadFBError https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/libs/SM3_Basic/Current/SM3_Basic/POUs/Diagnostics/FBError/SMC_ReadFBError.html Best regards, Georg

In the VPLC configuration settings there is an entry for the IP address of the license server. In this setting fill in the IP address of your device (host IP address). Then when the virtual PLC starts up, it will get the license from the license container on the host. You can do this for all VPLC's running on your device. The VPLC will always take the smallest license which fits the required license. So if you have 2 licenses for VPLC's with small and large applications, then this will work fine if you start up one VPLC which requires the small license and the other which requires the large license. PS, personally I find it much easier, especially for testing and experimenting, to activate the licenses on a CODESYS (USB) key. This is easy to activate (on your development PC) and easier to move to another device. Addtionally you don't loose the license when you need to install a completely new image on the device.

We are working on a project and the customer required 3.5.16 BF4. After working on the project for a few weeks I opened it the next morning and it could not access libraries. IecVarAccess could not be accessed. I checked if windows updated - it did not. So no explanation for why it lost access other than that I shut down the computer for the night. Note that I am using a demo license. I still haven't figured out any reason to purchase a license. So I spent the next hour reinstalling CodeSys. Note that I did NOT uninstall first. After install I waited another 5 minutes for it to open the first time. I clicked File->Open to open the project. Previously I had selected File->Recent Projects - not sure if that makes and difference. But after this process it did open the project and compile it just fine. This is miserable. If this had happened when I went on site to a customer I would have lost hours of work doing the reinstall. Is there a different and quicker fix?

Hi CoDeSys support forum, hope that this is the correct place to ask this. Might be double as i am new to Codesys and dont know all terminology. I am trying to test Codesys with a virtual plc on a raspberry pi 5. Already figured that i need Tools -> Deploy Control SL, enter Communication parameters. Codesys says "Connected". Then tab "Deployment", there i select "CODESYS Control for Raspberri Pi SL" and "4.16.0.0 (all)". Click "Install" and the gui turns grey and unresponsive. The titlebar says "Untitled1.project - CODESYS (Not Responding)" as well. Restarting Codesys and checking shows no package was installed. How to deploy the runtime? Thank you in advance for your time. Edit: After some patience, an error showed up: "Error when sending ssh heartbeat: Session operation has timed out" "Error installing codesyscontrol" Any pointers to what remote command might have failed, or log of some sort, would be welcome. Hi guys, Recently, I am working at the Dynamic I/Os mapping feature in Ecockpit or Codesys v3.5. I have been trying the libraries. However, it looks like it will not work as I wanted. I want to build the PLC which can detect all the I/Os itself and from there, I can do something on these channels. For example, the current setup is one digital input card, one digital output card and one analogue input card. Then, I want to add one more card into the setup e.g. one more digital input. Then, wago screen can detect this and we can assign them to tasks for example to control digital output. May I know is it possible ? Kind regards

Hello, I´m connected to two drives via CANOPEN. The connection seems to be ok. However, I´m not able to get the PDOs to work even tho they are configured as in the manual of the drives. Looking at the SDOs I´ve seen that for each PDO there is a "Disable PDO" SDO that does not exist in the manual or in the EDS file of the drives. This "Disable PDO" signal has the same Index and Subindex as another SDO used to set and enable the COB-ID of the PDO. I´m assuming this is normal but why is Codesys creating a "Disable PDO" SDO for each PDO and could that be the reason the PDOs are not working?

Build: CODESYS 3.5 SP19 Patch 1 (64-bit) Host OS: Windows 10 Target: Linux SL I have a project with programs in Structured Text and Ladder Diagram. When I try to use the Find function, it works for the Active Editor; however, when I try to use Find for the Entire Project, I get the error "Object reference not set to the instance of an object." I know what this error means in the context of the program, but I have no idea why the find function is returning this error. The variable I am searching does not matter: it happens with all variables. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. I generally use the Find function quite often as I am developing and not having it is really slowing me down.

Hello, I'm working on setup a CAM table by using the Codesys CAM Editor. My purpouse is to obtain a quadratic velocity ramp with jerk limitation motion profile, for which i define the accel/decel phases with Poly5 segment type, but the problem is that due to the fact i can "only" adjust until the acceleration, and the jerk is always setup to 0, and i cannot change the jerk values, i cannot achieve the desired results, as i need to generate jerk steps. Is there any way it can be achieved with the editor, or maybe by using PLC runtime code? Thank you in advance for your help BR, Jordi Morito

Hi, I am trying to make my runtime support TargetViso on 4.12.0.0 runtime. First when I tried to install package I got error due to missing libraries that are generated through qt-base. After compiling and installing related qt lib when I tried to install the package, I didnt get lib dependencies error but I got another error: [ERROR] The installed QT Version does not meet the minimum required version 6.4.2. Please install version 6.4.2 or higher and try again. When I check Qt version I get the following response QMake version 3.1 Using Qt version 6.5.0 in /usr/local/qt6/lib. I tried with Qt version 6.9.0 but that didn't help. Any idea on what coudl be the reason. When I looked for codesys related processes the related libraries were included within environment.

Hi Yet another OPC UA question. When setting up a OPC server using "Communcation manager" (Symbol set and information model) in Codesys the NodeId is always given as "opaque" type. At least when browsing using UAExpert. Other standard OPC objects use numeric (or string) identifier, but for some reason my variables seems to get opaque/binary type. See attached photo. How can I change this? I can't see that this is a parameter in the CodesysControl.cfg. Can this be specified in the information model nodeset? And is it possible to specify the exact numeric or string NodeId for each instance? And on a related topic, is there a way to export the OPC server nodeId's with variable name so that it can be imported in a OPC Client? The .xml files in the project folder does not seem to contain the NodeId.
