Hi, I would like to divide a project into multiple applications - as a minimum: one handling visualization and Alarm Manager, one handling I/O and plant control logic. But how to exchange variables between the applications? What have you done to get such a solution? In versions 3.5.19 and earlier, you can have Child applications, where the children can access a GVL in the Parent application. Children apps is no longer possible in 3.5.20 - but you can have 'sibling' apps - Several apps directly under PLC Logic, that is. But how do they best communicate? The Communication Manager / Data Sources Manager is sort of possible via OPC UA, but it seems like overkill and with some limitations - for example no ARRAY OF STRUCT possible this way. If you have separate devices in your project, you can exchange data via 'CODESYS ApplicationV3', but not other applications in the same device (see attachment Datasources.png). You can do it via 'Select the project type'->'Other Project' and select the same project file, but this leads to crashing the Development system when working with the variables afterwards. Hi, We have a machine running Codesys on a Windows IPC (CODESYS Control Win v3 - x64). When we hard shutdown the machine, the code on the PLC sometimes becomes "corrupted" after a power on (When trying to login to the PLC, we get the message "The application 'Application' does not exist on device."). I've noticed these errors in the logs, but I'm not sure what to make of them. We are not using any RETAIN variables in our code, although I'm not sure about referenced librairies. (we are using the persistence manager). I'm pretty sure that not doing a graceful shutdown is the root cause of this. This being said, what is the proper way of doing a graceful shutdown? Is putting the Codesys application in "stop" sufficient? I know how to implement this, so if it works then it would be a quick fix. However, I think we need to add a UPS, which would detect power loss and inform the PLC that it needs to initiate its shutdown, and then the PLC would shutdown gracefully. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated :)

The issue s the byte order typically in this case. Can be especially problematic with floating point numbers - even more tricky if transferred with a word based protocol. It is a peasant way to try out the alternatives, dword order can be a-b-c-d, b-a-d-c, c-d-a-b, d-c-b-a where a is the most significant, d is the least significant byte. So all you need is to swap the bytes in your dword, until you get the expected result. If you don't want to mess writing code for this, I'd recommend CAA_Memory library for that: MEM.ReverseBYTEsInDWORD and MEM.ReverseWORDsInDWORD functions would definitively do the trick. Ok, I have a simple test environment. From C#, using OPC UA, I can read DINTs, write DINTs, read Structs, but when I try to write a struct I get BadNotWritable. I am using Communication Manager, OPC UA Server, and IEC Symbol Publishing. I have a struct defined with one single DINT in it. The instance of the struct is in GVL. The struct is marked read/write in IEC Symbol Publishing. Any ideas? This is from 10 years ago, I know. But I have been using (SLAVE_DEVICE.iChannelIndex = CHANNEL_NUMBER) AND (SLAVE_DEVICE.xDone) I suppose that it shows xDone for the channel that shows up in the iChannelIndex at the same cycle? It seems to be working properly for two devices that I have been using it before But now I have another device and using two write channels, for one register each. One channel works properly and returns DONE flag When another channel is triggered, I see that it shows up in iChannelIndex, but flag DONE not received, but no Error for the channel. Also, when i check the register in the device it's evident that data has been transferred. Is this could happen sometimes with CODESYS, so DONE flag not received? Or this is a problem with a given device? With this certain register

I am trying to install the MQTT Client SL in an existing project I have been working on for years. After adding the library to the project, and without adding any other code, upon building I get a C0180: Ambiguous namespace 'MBM' error between the memory block manager (MBM) in the NetBaseSrv dependency of the MQTT Client SL library and the memory block manager (MBM) in the CAA CanL2 dependency of the 3S CANopen stack library. I have tried: * setting "Only allow qualified access to all identifiers." in the properties for both the parent libraries. * deleting the 3S CANopen stack library. Upon (re)building the error simply points to another conflicting library - there are many. * deleting the Library Manager and rebuilding it. * adding the memory block manager library (used in the NetBaseSrv) manually and changing its namespace to MBM3S. None of the above allow me to access the MQTT library through its namespace (MQTT). Adding the memory block manager manually removes the C0180 error, but the MQTT library is not accessible - i.e. mqttClient : MQTT.MQTTClient; highlights the mqttClient as "Identifier 'MQTT.MQTTClient' not defined". Is there anything else I can try?

WHEREAS, I have already searched various posts and forums, where mostly there are few references and mostly geared toward integration in TwinCAT. I am looking for how to properly configure the EL6731 board as a DP master, (where I have its 3S license), with CoDeSys 3.5.19.x. I have three types of slaves, all integrated with their GSD descriptors. In the tab for the various slaves, I don't see options related to node restart on 'station return'. On the card manual, I read that for each slave I should be able to configure parameter 8000:2C: “8000:2C Restart behavior after DP fault Reserve, must be 0 BIT1 RW 0x00 (0dec)” However, in the project I see no way to configure this parameter, in any of the boards; and the arrays do not always have such an extensive size; most of the time they are only two or three words in size. The problem is that, after the hot reset of CoDeSys, the master restarts by starting all slave nodes, but if one or more get lost and go offline, there is then no automatic restart upon their return. I would need to figure out any solution, even via software, how to figure out that this one is back available and restart it.

Hello! I have asked the few I know who have knowledge of this and now turn to this one inexhaustible source of knowledge aka. the electronics forum. I can see that the resistance is very much higher on the latter but what's the catch? Double the torque to 1/3 the current sounds a little too good to be true so what am I missing?

Hi Just new to motion and i am building my own 3axis cnc cutter using servo drives. i have every thing working quite well apart from mc_home. when executed (r_trig) it stops immediately and i get fb_wasnt_called_during_motion. if i execute the mc_home fb with a toggle it just runs and runs for a while then errors out. what im unsure of is the way mc_home works. from what i understand it changes the drive mode to 6 (homing) and should then run of the drive homing settings. once origin sensor is made then homing would stop and mc_home.done is true. and the position on the fb is where i what the new home position (zero) to be? or do i feed mc_readposition to that input? so i would think its the settings in the drive that aren't quite right. but i believe they are all correct. has any one got any info to steer me in the right direction? Busy testing a solution to use Canbus Slave to replace a physical device and convert to Ethercat device but keep the Canbus Master in place. Master needs to Read SDO object 5FA2. In the Master PLC if i send the SDO with 8 bytes in message IE: 60B 40 A2 5F 00 00 00 00 00 i get my expected 58B 43 A2 5F 00 00 68 36 02 containing data back. Problem is if we issue a 4 byte command can send 60B 40 A2 5F. Surely the canbus slave should respond with a 58B 43 A2 5F 00 00 68 36 02 but it comes back as 80 A2 5F 00 00 00 00 08 - meaning this OBJECT does not exist. Is there a setting in the canbus slave driver for Canbus to allow the 4 byte command to read the SDO OBJECTS ?

Hello everyone, I’m currently working on setting up an EtherCAT Master using CODESYS on a Raspberry Pi, and I’ve run into some issues I could use help with. Project Setup: EtherCAT Master: Raspberry Pi with CODESYS Control for Raspberry Pi 64 SL installed EtherCAT Slave: Beckhoff CX5130 with EK1200 coupler I/O Module: EL2008 License Module: EL6070-0033 I’ve installed the required CODESYS packages and the Linux gateway on the Raspberry Pi. In my project, I added the EtherCAT Master with the appropriate port settings and scanned for devices. The CX5130 shows up as a slave, but communication fails—I'm getting error messages and can't access the outputs. Specifically: The EL2008 output module isn’t recognized properly in CODESYS. There’s no option to communicate with it through the CX5130. I’ve tried connecting via both the Raspberry Pi’s built-in Ethernet port and an external network card. I've attached screenshots showing the errors I get in CODESYS and the devices detected via TwinCAT for reference. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Hello, I would like to implement RS232 communication into CODESYS Control RTE V3. I was writing the program testing it on CODESYS Control Win V3, where it worked fine. When I changed it to RTE, the communication was on, but I cannot send the data between PLC and scale - there is no or little response from scale - mostly one time receive and that is it. On Win V3 it was working fine. I read that I am supposed to configure CODESYSControl file for a proper communication using RTE, but even after that I can not get a stable and working communication. I am attaching my CODESYSControl and CODESYSControlUser data below, as well as I am sending the code from communication function. The communication should be through COM1 port of PC. ditto I'm just getting my codesys wheels on and the modbus stuff is confusing. I am re-platforming an existing PLC application On that platform one could simply tag variables to register numbers and the whole shooting match could be accessed via modbus and typically holding registers and input registers were treated the same way... On codesys I see there is a modbus TCP server Device I/O mapping tab and a Modbus TCP server IEC objects tab I get the sense that one can configure the serving of variables both/either way but am unclear about the optimum/necessary path. Apparently in the IEC Objects tab one can "ADD" something or other - presumeably channels. I have created a preliminary function block but the Select Function Block window shows nothing to select WTH ? I exported the Device mapping and was surprised to see the entire Device IO map - complete with all the bit-mapped holding/input registers!! WTH!!?? Bit-mapped words are strictly a nichey special purpose application. I am targetting making a couple hundred variables available which would turn into hundreds of pages of IO/mapping Is the FUnction Block IEC objects thingy an alternative to that ? I notice that CODESYS shows the tags which the PLC used to specify the register address... are tags used in CODESYS for any specific hard-core purpose ?

In the VPLC configuration settings there is an entry for the IP address of the license server. In this setting fill in the IP address of your device (host IP address). Then when the virtual PLC starts up, it will get the license from the license container on the host. You can do this for all VPLC's running on your device. The VPLC will always take the smallest license which fits the required license. So if you have 2 licenses for VPLC's with small and large applications, then this will work fine if you start up one VPLC which requires the small license and the other which requires the large license. PS, personally I find it much easier, especially for testing and experimenting, to activate the licenses on a CODESYS (USB) key. This is easy to activate (on your development PC) and easier to move to another device. Addtionally you don't loose the license when you need to install a completely new image on the device.

When evaluating Codesys functionality, I found that the VPLC tab under Deploy Control SL > Operation > VPLCs is 'grey-ed out', see attached image. I'm trying to evaluate how my infrastructure will interact with Codesys on a Raspberry Pi 4, so I'm trying to demo running it before purchasing licenses. I was going through the Codesys tutorial here, and it never shows the tab as grey, so I do not know how to proceed. Let me know if I can get any additional information that can help. This could be related to an Info message that's sent when connecting- [INFORMATION] Connected successfully! [INFORMATION] Successfully connected to target (<ip_address>) [INFORMATION] No supported container engine found on device. You have to install a supported container engine to use Virtual Control. Please contact the Administrator of the device. [INFORMATION] Finished reading device information</ip_address> I'm not exactly sure what I would need to do to install a 'supported container engine'.

Thanks for the advise, indeed, this was somewhat, what my intention was. I tried around again with EDSes and DCFs, anyway. It appears that the DCFs end up in a subfolder in the attach device dialog. Astonishingly, when attaching the DCF version I get a device in the device tree, where I can add a SoftMotion axis, whereas when I attach the device not in the subfolder, then I cannot. Further astonishingly, when looking in the CANopen parameters in supported profiles, "402" is listed in the case of the DCF variant, whereas in the EDS variant "0" is shown. Comparing EDS and DCF files I cannot guess, where the difference is coming from. I cannot tell either why I have always attached the EDS variant and apparantly never the DCF variant. As I am not in the lab right now, I cannot test if the connection actually is working. Thanks again, spiessli

Hello I'm trying to use the DocScripting collection in Codesys. I've made it work on one PC(1) for the 3.5.16.4 version of the script collection. But when I try the same setup on another PC(2), I get an error message: Error loading Python DLL: D:\SCRIPTING\3.5.16.40\python27.dll (error code 14001) My setup on both PC's is thus: 1. Downloaded and installed Python 2. Copied the folder with the scripting collection to C: (because of admin rights) 3. Placed my .library file in the same folder as the scripting collection Only difference is that Python is v3.12.0 on PC1 and v3.12.1 on PC2. I thought maybe it was something with Python, but then I have tried using the scripting collection from 3.5.16.1, and that seems to work. Just not for scripting collection 3.5.16.4. I also can't seem to find any scripting collections on newer versions of Codesys? (e.g. 3.5.19.10) Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone. My question about: where I can learn (read or watch) an info about codesys workflow through the system IO libs? I want to know how to implement I/O drivers by my self. In the system libs I see many interfaces, methods etc... But there is no explanation about them, just names of methods and fields of the FBs. I know about this page: https://forge.codesys.com/drv/io-drivers/doc/Generic/ There is so BIG the device description file and not so clear explaining of the attributes and elements, also some elements or attributes missed at it all. Yes, there are code examples on this page, but, so shortly and, for example, code about Modbus drivers is absent. And even if I try to add the IoDrvFB with lib, I get and error, something like: "failed to load IoDrvFB driver". And what about the book of codesys that written by Gary Pratt? Is there information about system libs and drivers in this book more clearly? Thank you :)

Hello, This is my first time using Codesys, I am trying to add EtherNetIP communication to a Raspberry PI. I’ve added the EtherNetIP Adapter configured the network setting and added some modules to the pi but when I download the project it generates the following error: “There is no source code available for the object because it is in the compiled library ‘cip object, 4.5.1.0 (3s – smart software solution gmbh)’. Do you want to browse for the original library in order to display the source code? There are 2 errors in the log which are: SOURCEPOSITION App=[Application] area=3, offset=332760 EXCEPTION [Application] occurred: App=[Application], Task=[ENIPAdapterServiceTask] I can’t for the life of me work out how to get around this. I can’t find the source code anywhere or any information regarding this error. I’m using Codesys V3.5 SP19 Patch 3, the version of the Ethernet adapter is 4.5.1.0 and the version of the modules is 4.1.0.0. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hey there, I am currently trying to find a good solution for the communication between CODESYS Control on Raspberry Pi and "the rest of the world", i. e. the things apart from CODESYS on my linux. My first approach was to use the c-integration. So I created a lib, defined extern fbs, compiled the code on my Pi using the SDK and put the .so into my lib project. When I try to log into the Pi and load the program, I get the error message which you can see in the attached picture. "Die dynamischen Module der C-Integration konnten nicht auf das Laufzeitsystem geladen werden" is german and means roughly "the modules from the c-integration could not be loaded onto the runtime system." Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? I will have a look at the unix domain socket thing next, as I am still in the process of finding the best solution for the communication.
