    Hi All,

I am trying to set up a gateway to my raspberry pi (Revolution Pi to be exact), but when I "Scan Network" it doesn't appear.

My setup consist of an Azure Windows VM (I have a mac) with the latest CODESYS 3.5 and an OpenVPN connection to "OpenVPN Cloud". At the other end I have the Pi also connected to OpenVPN cloud.

I am able to SSH into the pi via the VPN, and equally I have been able to flash the CODESYS runtime to the pi. When I scan from the raspberry Pi window it appears.

However, when I cannot set up a "Gateway" - the Pi doesn't appear when i Scan the network. I've used "localhost" and the OpenVPN network adapter IP address (See screenshot)

Do you know what could be the issue here?

    Thanks,
    Nik

Hi, you need to Install the Edge gateway Plugin (Linux)from the CODESYS Store:
    https://store.codesys.com/cas/codesys-edge-gateway.html#All%20versions
and deploy the armhf Edge Gateway to the Pi.
Do not forget to check if using the CODESYS Automation Server would be an option for that you could login via Automation Server to your plc / Rev Pi:

      Hi Edwin,

I followed the link to the Codesys edge gateway, but I'm not sure how to deploy the armhf Edge Gateway to the Pi?

Is this done via Update Raspberry Pi -> Install additional packages? (in which case I don't know where to find the .deb package file)

With regards to the Automation Server, is this a completely separate thing or is it needed for the edge gateway? I will probably try it, but I'm not a fan of the 40EUR monthly fee from next year.

      Thank you.

    Hi,
after installing the package there is an own update command for the Edge Gateway.
Automation Server is an own separate product - which uses the Edge Gateway to login to the plc's.
It is worth to try - you could see the Webvisu
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kyf9bCpPa6s
additional beside login to remote plc's with CODESYS.

    Regards
    Edwin

Thanks for the quick replay. I'll try the Automation Server once I have the Edge Gateway up and running.

Unfortunately I've been unsuccessful so far. In the screen shot you've attached, you have the "Update Edge Gatway" option - this doesn't appear in my installation - I only have the "Update Rapsberry Pi option". I installed the Edge Gateway on my PC so I don't really understand why it doesn't appear.

    Best regards,
    Nik

Right, that explains my mistake. I've now installed the edge on
    the Pi.

Unfortunately, I still can't find it when I "Scan Network" - any idea what I'm missing here?

    Thanks
    Nik

login by ssh client (putty or any other) to the pi and check by using
'top' is the gateway is up and running

    It seems to work now.

The error I made was to type in my PC's IP address as the gateway - instead of my Pi's address.

Now that I typed the Pi address in as the gateway it works.

Thanks so much for you help Edwin. Really appreciate it.

    Hi,

i am in the same situations, i have openvpn active: i can ping the pi and i can see the system info trough the "Update Edge Gateway" software included in codesys 3.5 sp16. If i go with putty to the pi i can open and execute the "top" command line, the result is ok the process "codesysedge.bin" is runnig as root user. In codesys develop (windows machine) i setup the gateway with the ip adress of pi but unfortunately, I still can't find it when I "Scan Network". Any idea what I'm missing here?

sorry yes nissed to say this,
but isn't using CODESYS Automation Server an option for you, to have it much easier on
login in remote to you PI system by CODESYS?

Hi Edwin, I don't use Codesys Automation Server, I would have liked but 39.5 € per month for 5 PLCs from 2021 worries me. I use a server with openvpn and it works at a cost of 2.7 € per month. Sure Codesys Automation Server is amazing, but for now not for us, we hope that in the future the price becomes more affordable, thanks.

      Merry christmas!
The screenshot says, that everything is OK, and that the runtime was started. Sounds good to me πŸ˜‰

now proceed in CODESYS: Do a scan of the PI plc - (chose Multicore or SL Raspberry PI to find it)

  • nickmc1988 - 2021-12-25

    Merry Christmas :)

Well that's good to know it installed ok. The reason I thought something was wrong there is the service on the PI starts up then but soon after (1-2 min) it stops again. I can't seem to find it when I scan due the the service not running.

Look forward to your response :)

if it is a Pi4 use latest CODSYS Runtime version on Buster or Bullseye.

  • nickmc1988 - 2021-12-26

Eschwellinger, I'm currently running Bullseye on the Pi and still having issues with the runtime service stopping after (30sec). I am just about to try it on Buster so will see what happens there.

... with current runtime? Both should work

  • nickmc1988 - 2021-12-27

I was using 4.2.0.0, which I'm still assuming is the current version?
I install that on Buster last night and it worked great but had not luck on Bullseye. You haven't run into this issue before?

    no,
start the runtime manually by cli:

    MULTICORE:
    cd /var/opt/codesys
    sudo /opt/codesys/bin/codesyscontrol_armv7l_raspberry.bin -d /etc/CODESYSControl.cfg

    SingleCore
    cd /var/opt/codesys
    sudo /opt/codesys/bin/codesyscontrol_armv6l_raspberry.bin -d /etc/CODESYSControl.cfg
    to see the error.

Very interesting fleaplc. I haven't tried the above just yet but will report back when i do. When i went back to Buster it worked fine so not sure what is going on there.

no way to run Codesys runtime with Bullseye.. Only restoring a previous SD card image (October, Buster) everything come back to work. Is the Bullseye the issue or because I update from Buster?
