Control RTE V3

I'm going to ask a question, which although it seems silly, for me is not.

Yesterday a customer tried to run a Control RTE V3 in a virtual machine, but according to my logic, it doesn't make sense and I also don't know if it would work.

    So, the question is:
.- is it possible to run a Control RTE V3 in a virtual machine?
.- If the answer is yes, is it possible to use a virtual network as Ethercat Master ?

Kind regards and thank you in advance.

    Hi,
no it does not run and does not make sense. ( no realtime capabilities)
But you could use Control Win and run Ethercat with installed WinPcap on the network interfaces of the vm.

    Best Regards
    Edwin

    Hello,

I'm also trying the same, not interested at the moment about RT performances, but only checking whether it could work at all, since it would be interesting for basic application functional debugging.
So far, the Control RTE V3 correctly starts up in my Win10 Oracle VirtualBox and enters running state, but I cannot connect from the host computer within the codesys IDE through the gateway. Strangely enough for me, on the same virtual box, there is also another PLC running with codesys control Win V3 without any connection problems.
I would like to understand which are the technical reasons why you say there are no chances to make Control RTE V3 working (as the other does) on my virtual machine, apart from the real time performances.

    Thanks!
