Hi after some assistance with an error on a Groov PR2 PLC. We have a few different communications set up as shown below: One Modbus TCP Slave Connection - ( Sending / Receiving Data from a PC ) Two Modbus TCP Master Connection - ( Reading Data from a UPS Panel and Reading Data Gas Chromatograph) One Modbus RTU Slave Connection 485 - (Reading Data from a fire and gas panel) One Modbus RTU Master Connection 485 - (Sending Data to a Telemetry Unit) All Licenses have been installed as per OPTO22 suggestions of the order below: Modbus TCP Master Modbus TCP Slave Modbus RTU Master Modbus RTU Slave When I check on License manager the RTU Master license seems to disappear on installing the RTU. (What ever reason I’ve been told this is “normal”). If I use Device License Read It will successfully read all the licenses correctly. Now the issue is every 2 hours and between 4. For what ever reason the communications seems to end and lock up for about 20 seconds. During this time even if I was logged into the PLC it would kick me off and I’d have to re type the password to enter. Most of the devices can handle this however the RTU flags up a communications failure at the SCADA and is raising alarms every 2 hours and 4 mins. We’ve had multiple people go through the code to check for anything obvious. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you for an answer. Unfortunatelly, it doesn't work. The slave needs command byte as follows 0x22. It means expedited transfer where s-bit is not set, therefore data length is not specified. If I use segmented mode by CiA405.SDO_WRITE_DATA it produce command byte as follows 0x21 which is unfortunately supported by the slave and it returns with error 0x05040001 - SDO Abort Code -Client/server command specifier not valid or unknown. I can use CAN API low level to overcome this problem where it is possible to set 0x22 as a command byte, but than I can use user interface to set the communication probably, because I thing that machine expert uses library CiA405.SDO_WRITE for setting the slave. Or am I wrong?

The machine I'm currently using (Celeron J1900) already has the Kernel RT patch. I checked the performance according to the documentation. After running CyclicTest for 4 cores, the value for each core is around 6-7. I went through the entire process according to the documentation (I envy the TaskMonitor results in the documentation). The documentation states: "CODESYS Virtual Safe Time Provider The CODESYS Virtual Safe Time Provider is a standard interface that the user can use to transfer a second and external time base to the CODESYS Virtual Safe Control. The implementation is done as a client, which must run on another system with an independent time base." How do I implement this? I've been struggling for two weeks now - I'm too old to give up.

Hello, I am new to Codesys and PLC programming in general (please go easy ha!) I'm not looking for code to be written for me just some help and pointing in the right direction. I am writing some code to send commands to a relay based on input values (to put it simply). Quite basic stuff. I have wrote a function block that takes a global variable (Open_command:BOOL) and outputs to another global variable (Opened : BOOL). The function block is simulating a device so I'll eventually get the globals from that. I now need to create multiple versions of this function block/ device (lets say 100) but I need each iteration of that function block to reference it's own relevant global variable. I think that the best way of doing this would be to use arrays, although I could be wrong. I am aware that for up to 100 instances I could very well manually assign everything but that seems rather time consuming and I want a fancier way of doing it. Here is a very basic example of what I am looking to do, please note I have not written this in proper code it's just to show what I mean. Global Variables V[0-100] int Open_command [0-100] Bool Opened [0-100] Bool Function Block var input x : BOOL Var output y : BOOL if x then y = TRUE ELSE y = FALSE The input to my function block will be Open_command, output will be Opened Example code. If V[x] > 10 then Open_command [x] = TRUE ELSE Open_command [x] = FALSE (So when V1 goes above 10 I need Open_command1 = TRUE therefore initiating FB1 output. V2 > 10, open_command2 = True > FB2 output V3 > 10, open_command3 = True > FB3 output ... ... ) What I can't seem to figure out is how to tie all this together, I have read through the codesys documentation and if anything it has confused me more! ha. I guess that the printer expects to receive an array of byte values. Recently we had an issue regarding some simple code to calculate a rolling average. The code indexes from zero to 199 to properly store the current input into a circular buffer which then allows us to calculate a rolling average: VAR input_5s : REAL; outs_arr : ARRAY[0..199] OF REAL; i : USINT := 0; END_VAR ___ //this code runs every five seconds, calculating a rolling average outs_arr[i] := input_5s; i := i + 1; output := OSCAT_BASIC.ARRAY_AVG(ADR(outs_arr), SIZEOF(outs_arr)); IF i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr) THEN i := 0; END_IF There is a simple bug in this code where the index will be set to 0 when it has surpassed the length of the array in bytes (800 in this case) rather than larger than the number of reals in the array (200). The solution here is simple, replacing i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr) with i >= SIZEOF(outs_arr)/SIZEOF(outs_arr[0]). In this example when the index increased to 201 and the line outs_arr[201] := input_5s was called, codesys arbitrarily wrote to the address in memory that is where outs_arr[201] would be if the array was that long. I would like to find a way to wrap the codesys array inside of a wrapper class that checks if an input is within the bounds of an array before writing to that value. I know how I would implement that for a specific array, I could create a method or class that takes an input of an array of variable length, ie. ARRAY[*] OF REAL, but I don't know how to make this for any data type. I am wondering if anyone has ever done anything similar to this, or has any better suggestions to ensure that none of the programmers on this application accidentally create code that can arbitrarily write to other locations in memory.

Hello there, I am new here and in programming. I need help with the basics. I am trying to do what I mentioned in the title. I have an analog input. So I have a real or integer data type value. I want to delay it. TON and TOF only work with bool. I think there is a function block that has two inputs, 1 for real or int and 1 for bool. And if bool is true, it will give the output as real or int. I don't know but I need something like this. Actually, it is not exactly like that. In other words, it will not show the real value at the input at the output after a certain period of time. I want it to show the real value from 2 seconds ago continuously. The purpose of doing this is to compare the real value I received with the value from 2 seconds ago and find out whether it went up or down. I am using only FBD. Please help me with this. Hi, I would like to divide a project into multiple applications - as a minimum: one handling visualization and Alarm Manager, one handling I/O and plant control logic. But how to exchange variables between the applications? What have you done to get such a solution? In versions 3.5.19 and earlier, you can have Child applications, where the children can access a GVL in the Parent application. Children apps is no longer possible in 3.5.20 - but you can have 'sibling' apps - Several apps directly under PLC Logic, that is. But how do they best communicate? The Communication Manager / Data Sources Manager is sort of possible via OPC UA, but it seems like overkill and with some limitations - for example no ARRAY OF STRUCT possible this way. If you have separate devices in your project, you can exchange data via 'CODESYS ApplicationV3', but not other applications in the same device (see attachment Datasources.png). You can do it via 'Select the project type'->'Other Project' and select the same project file, but this leads to crashing the Development system when working with the variables afterwards. It would be great to hear your thoughts / experiences on this topic - Bjarne

I'm working on a low cost project and I'm considering installing the Codesys runtime on a PC running Linux Debian instead of buying a PLC with a pre-installed runtime. For my needs the Control Standard S license should be capable of running some IO over ethernet/ip, and a webvisu. The PC I am considering has a AMD GX-424CC 2.4GHz processor (4 core/4 thread) and 4GB RAM. This may compare to a raspberry pi4, but I know an X86 processor doesn't directly compare to an ARM processor, and a processor can have a high clock speed but other factors like L2/L3 cache can influence the overall performance. I can't find any published specs for the processor and RAM requirements to run the Codesys Control runtime, does anybody have a link to the minimum system requirements or experience using devices that are at or below the minimum system requirements. A raspberry pi with the control for raspberry pi SL runtime license would be the lowest cost option, but the license is not for commerical use. This restriction is somewhat vague, can anybody clarify if this means I can use a raspberry Pi runtime for in-house automation, what about if I am selling an integrated system that uses a raspberry Pi as a controller?

I have set up a brandnew Beckhoff panel pc with a codesys control runtime V3. I configured it together with 2 profinet field devices: a 16in/16out IO module from Turck and an MTS linear encoder. The machine works fine untill all of a sudden the communication breaks and the profinet participants become unreachable. At that point I can still ping the device, but the profinet master does not find them anymore: When i do a scan they are not found. When i do a cold restart, the profinet master becomes active again and the devices are found again. In the log i get Ethercat packet receive error: sysethernet. I am a little confused, there is no ethercat device in the device tree. I already set the send clock and the reduction ratio to higher values, but without result. Can codesys be configured, so that the communication re-establishes without doing the cold reset? This is very annoying and is causing a lot of prodution losses. regards Tim

Is it allowed to plug the network cable in another device (server), move the USB key with license to the other device (server) and then start it up? Or should it automatically switch over within msec and take over the communication with the I/O flawlessly without noticing the switchover? We helped several customers setting up the CODESYS Redundancy functionality and the nice thing is that when you have it up and running, you can easily switchover from active to passive and when you download a new applicaiton, CODESYS handles the update of boot project on the passive controller automatically. Sure this will require an additional license and the license for redundancy, but if your installation is that critical it should be worth it. Yes, I tried to do what you put in the first code. However, I have a problem with that and that is that the inputs must be declared with the type. I have many data types running in my code (real, int, uint, bool) and I can't put them in the same function, another thing is that I need to instantiate that function for everything I want to write to the slave. You put a for to 200 but it means that it has to be the same data type and inside the array, but I want to get them individually. I'm struggling to do it in a good and efficient way like wago's E-cockpit does. in the first screenshot you can see, you simply type in value, change the package of things you want to write in value change and it does everything by itself automatically, without comparing any old and new values and even less having the need to activate a bool. , it is perfect.

Hello everyone. I hope this is the right place to ask for help, this error is causing me a great amount of time loss and I really would like to end this nightmare. I don't know why but at times if I try to Browse -> Display Cross Reference on a variable Codesys just crashes. I'll attach the file with the complete crash report hoping someone can figure why it happend. I think that the unhandled exception comes from the PersisranceManager Module and is connected with the other big problem I'm facing: I cannot refactor in my project, if I'll try to refactor a POU name the whole POU will become "frozen", it's like its desynchronizing from the project and the project cannot find the pointer to the POU once I refactor it. And when I open the project a warning pop-up will show up with the frozen POUs name, but I cannot figure out what the warning is telling me. I'll attach every warning and error pop up the project is showing me, and thanks in advance to anyone who can figure something out.
