ditto I'm just getting my codesys wheels on and the modbus stuff is confusing. I am re-platforming an existing PLC application On that platform one could simply tag variables to register numbers and the whole shooting match could be accessed via modbus and typically holding registers and input registers were treated the same way... On codesys I see there is a modbus TCP server Device I/O mapping tab and a Modbus TCP server IEC objects tab I get the sense that one can configure the serving of variables both/either way but am unclear about the optimum/necessary path. Apparently in the IEC Objects tab one can "ADD" something or other - presumeably channels. I have created a preliminary function block but the Select Function Block window shows nothing to select WTH ? I exported the Device mapping and was surprised to see the entire Device IO map - complete with all the bit-mapped holding/input registers!! WTH!!?? Bit-mapped words are strictly a nichey special purpose application. I am targetting making a couple hundred variables available which would turn into hundreds of pages of IO/mapping Is the FUnction Block IEC objects thingy an alternative to that ? I notice that CODESYS shows the tags which the PLC used to specify the register address... are tags used in CODESYS for any specific hard-core purpose ?

We have been using the Codesys Control for Rasberry Pi for several years in many installations without any major issues. But during summer the problem mentioned above has blocked further deliveries. We have made some minor upgrades to the application but I do not really see why that should have any impact. HW is Raspberry Pi 4B, 2GB OS is Booworm Lite Codesys control is version 4.15 (have just installed a few systems lately with this version) The system boots OK but after exactly 30 seconds Codesys is shut down and becomes unreachable. We have tested several different combinations: Upgrade of the Codeys Control to 4.16 Loading different Codesys applications Changing to 4GB version of the Raspberry Pi One of the test applications together with the 4GB HW seems to be stable, but all other combinations fails. Any suggestion what we can do to resolve is appreciated - this is a real business blocker now. Rgds

In the VPLC configuration settings there is an entry for the IP address of the license server. In this setting fill in the IP address of your device (host IP address). Then when the virtual PLC starts up, it will get the license from the license container on the host. You can do this for all VPLC's running on your device. The VPLC will always take the smallest license which fits the required license. So if you have 2 licenses for VPLC's with small and large applications, then this will work fine if you start up one VPLC which requires the small license and the other which requires the large license. PS, personally I find it much easier, especially for testing and experimenting, to activate the licenses on a CODESYS (USB) key. This is easy to activate (on your development PC) and easier to move to another device. Addtionally you don't loose the license when you need to install a completely new image on the device.

ok, that's different than our issue then. We're using Schneider Electric M262 PLCs, and we've had it where certain web browsers cause the web server to only allow https connections, but it's not recoverable with a refresh. It usually requires a power cycle or even a full firmware flash. Your issue might have more to do with the timing. I don't know if it helps you, but we normally run our visu task at 200mS, with an update rate of 200mS. Seems to work. I went through this: https://faq.codesys.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=112525371 but it really seems like trial and error.

Hello, I have a question: Once the command is being executed, is there a way to kill it again? As the called application is running in the background, the user can't close it but it shall be closed/terminated, commanded by codesys. I have tried with "SysProcessTerminate" but I guess this is not correct as the RTE crashes when this function is called. In the ScriptingEngine documentation there seems to be an error (or missing information) in the ScriptIecLanguageObjectContainer part ( https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/ScriptingEngine/ScriptIecLanguageObjectContainer.html#ScriptIecLanguageObjectContainer.ScriptIecLanguageObjectContainer ). The description of the function create_pou() doesn't specify the correct arguments requested, it only says create_pou(type: SpecialPouType) and a script using the documentation definition of the function will raise an error. Hi, In Codesys V3.5 SP20, using Data Source Manager I am trying to connect to the OPC UA server and receive tags from it. The connection is ok, but the Codesys have a problem with downloading Tags group. The window (downloadingTags.jpg in attachement) never stop. After waiting for a while, I disconnect the connection and only the Server group remains downloaded, with OPC UA server diagnostic data (and this is read in Codesys). Of course, I tried connected via another OPC UA client : UaExpert , and everything works as it should, all tags are downloaded (Uaexpert.jpg screen). Has anyone on the forum encountered the OPC UA client configuration in Codesys? Is it possible to manually request the appropriate tags from the OPC server for reading in Codesys?

Hi Tim. Not quite correct. What i'd like, is when you place the FB in prog, i choose a block NTC10k, and name this RT401. What i'm trying to do, is to get the name RT401 automaticly into the FB, so i can put this into the string i pass in a struct. So in var in POU, i saw this a place i could do this, RT401: NTC10k(Tag:='RT401'), but i can't get this to work. I shurly must have had something like this in FB: FUNCTION_BLOCK NTC10k String TAG But it's here where I'm stuck...

I have a project where a single PLC shall control multiple nodes (up to 10 units?) with IO connected through profinet. Ideally each node should be identical however with time I see situations were different setups/configurations will be used. Codesys PLC (GVLs) |Profinet | |--PNIO-node-1--| | | AIO, | | DIO, | | CNT etc. | |--PNIO-node-2--| | | AIO, | | DIO, | | CNT etc. Ideally I think of a configuration through yaml/xml-files (the assignment/linking of the profinet nodes towards GVL-variables in the PLC as well as scaling, channel configration etc.). Would be grateful if someone could suggest library/-ies that can handle the following: - Verify what IO is connected to a device/node. - Hot-swap/assign link for IO towards GVLs, either automatically or through a HMI.

Hi there, An "OPC Expert" client software is connecting to a Codesys Control RTE (x64) OPC UA Server. It reads only about 25 variables every 5 minutes. The OPC UA Server seems to shut down on the Codesys runtime. Is there any way to get information about the Codesys OPC UA Server status? Restart it? There is nothing in the PLC Logs after the OPC UA Server has started. It works for a while, then it doesn't. Any ideas? Any way of getting more info out of the Codesys OPC UA Server? -Bjarne

I couldn't exactly solve the file transfer when I wanted to do multiple transfers while the compiler was open in a way that I couldn't understand. After my tests, I noticed two issues. 1- WinCC disconnects the connection after receiving the GetEndPointResponse message from CoDeSys. (I found it with UAExpert and Wireshark.) 2- It establishes a connection despite waiting for a while on the network with DNS. As a result of this information: I solved the problem by adding the line "193.193.193.150 t9pac" to the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts file and making Windows accept messages coming from the IP number 193.193.193.150 as coming from t9pac. (t9pac is the name of my PLC running CoDeSys.) If there is a setting that will allow CoDeSys OPC UA to respond to GetEndPointRequest with its IP address, this problem will not occur.

I don't exactly recall where (I think some release notes), but I read the information that this multiple application / sub application feature is to be discontinued. Please, correct me, if I'm not right about this I am a bit sad about that - I was using that feature with more or less success. However I understand the reason behind the change: it introduces huge complexity, especially when dealing with multicore and safety support... AS I understand, it's to be replaced with the new virtual plc architecture, and standard ways for synchronizing / sharing data... So, for now the "Add application" context menu item was removed, but behind the scene it is still supported... Hint: if you still want to experiment with it, might try copy-paste things within the PLCLogic tree...

I have updated CODESYS development tool to the version v3.5 SP21 (64bit) The previous version was v3.5.20.40 Compiling an existing application with the new evelopment tool I get the following error. kunbusiodrvrevpibridge, 1.4.1.0 (kunbus gmbh): IoDrvScanModules [IoDrvRevPiBridge](Line 51, Column 1 (Impl)): Internal Error (ARM): Unsupported conversion! This error was not reported in the previous compiler version and is now highlighted in a third-party library, which I cannot change or modify. The error is due to the following conversion: m_udiError := TO_UDINT(excCode); . The excCode variable is a system type, declared as shown below, and should be converted to a UDINT excCode : __SYSTEM.ExceptionCode; m_udiError: UDINT; . I would appreciate it if someone could provide feedback on this issue.

Hello everyone, I'm currently using CODESYS v3.5 SP10 on Windows 11, and I've noticed that syntax errors are not automatically underlined in red as they normally should be. Is there a specific setting that needs to be enabled for this feature to work? If so, could you please let me know where to find it? I’ve already tried uninstalling and reinstalling CODESYS, but that didn’t resolve the issue. Also, i have a teammate who have exactly the same computer as me and he didnt encounter any issue. Hi, Could you please send an print of your ethernet adapter info? Ip addr Subnet Mask Default Gateway Also, check if the gateway service is active in your windows. Win+R > services.msc > Look in the list CODESYS Control Win V3 x64 Gateway OR CODESYS Gateway V3 Hook up the M12 code D into the ETH port, supply the controller, it should apperars to you. Make sure when you try to connect with the controller, the target of your project has to match with the controller. Otherwise, click on the device in the devices tree > Communications Settings tab > Device > Options > And disable "Filter Network Scans by Target ID". Good luck.

Dear Forum, I’m currently investigating the possibilities of Codesys virtual control (Linux). The research rig consists of a PC (Debian with real time kernel) with a docker server installed on it. The PC is communicating with a Remote I/O and I have to say the performance is great. The process in the container is running (soft) real time. Currently I’m checking if it is possible to replace physical controllers by remote I/O’s and run the Codesys applications on a docker server. If I’m going into this route the reliability of the server is very important (server down, complete installation down), is it possible to make the server redundant without needing 2 separate containers (including licenses), and maintaining the real time behavior? I’m not only expecting direct answers, if you have any idea or thought they are very welcome. Kind regards Alex

and if you copy or transfer a project to another place, copy not only the .project, copy .compileinfo .bootinfo and .bootinfo_guids then we figured out it is more often possible to go online without full download. If you build an archiv and extract it, some of this files are missing and login isn't possible without download. I work with V3.5 SP16 Patch 4. I don't know if this problem of the archiv is solved in newer Versions/SP's and I don't know what the problem of Codesys is to help out a lot of programers of this very annoying problem or at least help with a workaround

I have default arguments specified for function block methods but when calling a method, an error is produced requiring me to supply all the arguments despite there being default values. According to the online documentation, under section "Calling a Method" and subsection "argument passing" of the following link: https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Development%20System/_cds_obj_method.html "Passing an argument for an input ... can be omitted ... for which a default or initial value was specified in the declaration..." I have found this to be the case for all Codesys IDEs I've used, 3.5.11, 3.5.16, 3.5.17, 3.5.19. Am I missing something?

Make sure the O->T and T->O bytes required by the remote device match the configuration in Codesys. Most of the EDS files I've imported have not worked by default. See the attached images for the connections and assemblies tabs. Note that the connections are in Bytes and the assemblies are in bits, you have to have enough bits to equal the bytes. Either mismatch will give a red/orange triangle. Page 343 of the manual (assuming the STF10-IP is an applied motion microstep driver) has some recommended connection settings, you should be able to confirm the input and output bits somehow, some devices have a web GUI, some require a software tool.

Hi DavidBo, In general Codesys is used to control equipment and an exception is the worst thing that can happen in your installation. If you cannot prevent the exception from triggering, you could implement a Try catch statement, with this solution your controller keeps on running and you are able to handle the exception. __TRY //This statement will trigger an exception Result := 4/0; __CATCH(exc) //Handle the exception HandleException(exc, strExceptionText => strExceptionText); // From the Codesys help file //Create a log file //-------------------------------------------------------- __ENDTRY What you also could do is implement implicit checks, these functions cover most of the exceptions (like dividing by zero) See picture But in general avoid a complete controller shutdown!

dhumphries, I changed the datatype this time from BYTE to USINT (because that's what my adapter is sending: array of uint8_t). The text "New Help String" you saw in previous screenshots is just the description of the input/s (it can be anything). I also looked into the logs (see attached) for that ! sign next to the device, I found that connection is being timeout. I tried some suggestions from online such as increase the RPI but still got connection timeout issue, also by changing the datatype, I still don't see incoming data from the adapter, although its visible on wireshark. thanks,
