I know I'm thinking about this wrong -- too many decades of procedural and event-driven programming and only a few months of PLC ST programming...... I've created a visualization with a button that when pushed calls a method. I want the method to take a pressure reading, wait one minute and then take another pressure reading. I'm looking for leaks. I'm using TON for the delay. It seems like what is happening is that the method gets called once and it takes the first reading and starts the TON. But then execution continues, leaves that method call, and the second reading never happens. I can force the method to keep running until the whole thing is done with a While loop, but I understand that is considered BAD in PLC programming. If it push the button again to call the method again, it picks up where it left off and if the timer is complete then it runs the remaining code. How do I keep that method running until it is complete with just one call without using a while loop that ties up the PLC for a minute? Thanks! -Farren

You never stay in a method. You need a block to do that. Something like: VAR button:BOOL:=FALSE; count:UINT:=0; END_VAR IF button THEN //read pressure count:=count+1; IF count>1 THEN button:=FALSE; count:=0; END_IF END_IF

Maybe it is better to use Interfaces to access the objects instead of pointers. But besides that, is "read_obj_ptr" a method? If yes, you need to call it, so add brackets behind the method call: read_obj_ptr();

Dear people, I would like to create a TCP server in my PLC program. The TCP server needs to communicate with an external device. I have been searching the internet and found that the libraries Syssocket or CAA NetBaseSrv are two possible solutions to create a TCP server. From what I have read, CAA NetBaseSrv is more user-friendly to implement than the Syssocket variant. However, I am still struggling to actually implement this library. Foremost is my little knowledge about creating a TCP server and how to read/understand each function block, especially the outputs of some blocks and the types, e.g. server has an output CAA.Handle, but I cannot find the explanation of CAA.Handle. I tried to find a good document that can help me understand how to implement a TCP server, but I could not find it. Thank you in advance, George

Hi All I was watching the Wago PFC300 webinar ( https://www.wago.com/global/lp-thank-you-onlineseminar-pfc-300 ), and the presenters comment about priority 1 being way above the Ethernet task priority, so that a priority 1 PLC program can actually loose SCADA connection, made me try to round up some hard evidence on Codesys Priorities. I find there is very little information on "correct" task priority configuration. Some controllers have separate MODBUS tasks, but doesn't seem like a big difference. How would you recommend splitting up communication, IO fieldbus and programs into differently prioritized tasks? I know its a complex matter and all about my application, but I really miss there was just some kind of guidance in the documentations and with all new standard Codesys programs having priority 1 as default, makes it seem less important, than it really is.

Both programs run in the same task. No chance that any other program calls the method. What I practically do there is that in the program PRG_2 I add a structed object into a buffer. In PRG_1 I just process the items in the buffer.

I added new Gateway and I can see it connected. When I scan the server for PLC, it finds the PLC but when I click the Add To Server button, it shows "PLC was added." in the status. But I can't find the PLC in the list. I tried removing the gateway and re-configure everything again but it didn't solve. Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. I belive it is contiguous, I'm writing to adress 0 to 4. Or, do you mean something else? Well, something is happening. If I on the client set adress 1,2,3 to true, only 1 is set to true on the server side. On the client side, the data is array of word. But on the server side, the coils are array of bool. Holding register is array of word on server side. Can this be a problem? Attached screenshot of how it looks at the server side.

Hello I am using FTP_CLIENT to donwnload/Upload a text or CSV file from FTP server. UpLoading from PLC to FTP server is working without any problem but when I try to download from FTP server I get an error. The FTP_CLIENT Block allows me to add URL but I do not where I can specify the direcory to save the downloaded file... is there anyone has an experience with downloading from FTP server using FTP_CLIENT block. I see, you want to initialize the FB. To be able to initialise it like you described, you need to add the FB_Init method to your FB. (right click on the FB, select add object --> method). Then press the arrow down, to select the FB_Init (overwrite default implementation). In the VAR_INPUT section of this method, add the variable --> Tag : STRING; Then in the code section of this method add: THIS^.Tag := Tag; // copy initial value to local variable in FB Search Google if you want to know more about FB_Init. PS, reflection + instance path, is also an option if you want to get the full name of the instance (path) of the Function Block. When I created a new project in CODESYS using the "Standard Project" template and then added a Visualization, I was receiving the C0138 error during compilation. This issue persisted even with a new, completely empty project. A Quick and Effective Solution (My Method): After many attempts, I solved the problem as follows: From the File -> New Project menu, I selected the "HMI Project" template directly, instead of the "Standard Project" template. After creating the project with this template, I added my POUs, Tasks, and programs (e.g., Ladder, ST). Using this method, the project compiled successfully without any errors. So, my question is: are there any other solutions besides this method?

Good afternoon. I am working with a weidmuller uc20-wl2000 controller, using a codesys license. We made a ladder code to control a process, and it works well, but we want some variables to remain stored even when the controller is turned off. We tried to use retain variables, but at the time of loading the program, when we went offline from the controller, the program was deleted, it did not remain in the controller, and in the same way if we turned off the controller. In addition to this, when we tried to program it again, the program would not stay loaded and began to present errors with the opc-ua communication. What could be causing this problem? How can we maintain the values of the variables without damaging the program or affecting the controller? thank you

Does anybody know how to get a specific text from a text list within a program. Obviously it works in a visualization, but because I will have an HMI that has it's own system and I will have to send variables to this HMI via an OPC UA connection, I need to be able to get a text into a string. I tried using the VisuElems like this, but it only returns an empty "" and nothing else.
