Hi, I would like to divide a project into multiple applications - as a minimum: one handling visualization and Alarm Manager, one handling I/O and plant control logic. But how to exchange variables between the applications? What have you done to get such a solution? In versions 3.5.19 and earlier, you can have Child applications, where the children can access a GVL in the Parent application. Children apps is no longer possible in 3.5.20 - but you can have 'sibling' apps - Several apps directly under PLC Logic, that is. But how do they best communicate? The Communication Manager / Data Sources Manager is sort of possible via OPC UA, but it seems like overkill and with some limitations - for example no ARRAY OF STRUCT possible this way. If you have separate devices in your project, you can exchange data via 'CODESYS ApplicationV3', but not other applications in the same device (see attachment Datasources.png). You can do it via 'Select the project type'->'Other Project' and select the same project file, but this leads to crashing the Development system when working with the variables afterwards. It would be great to hear your thoughts / experiences on this topic - Bjarne

Hello, I am using codesys Modbus TCP client (4.4.0.0) to communicate with a python modbus server (package pyModbusTCP). I first start my python server on the distant machine. After a fresh codesys compilation, a plc connection/transfer and a PLC run, the modbus connection is OK. Every time in this context the connection is created correctly. When I shut down the server, the modbus connection falls, that is normal. When I restart the python server, impossible to recreate the modbus connexion. With the client autoreconnection, I see on my server that the client tries to connect but unsuccesfully. I have the following message : DEBUG:pyModbusTCP.server:accept new connection from ClientInfo(address='192.168.1.20', port=33476) DEBUG:pyModbusTCP.server:Exception during request handling: NetworkError('recv return null') I tried to stop the codesys client and to restart it with these commands : Modbus_TCP_Client.xStop := True; // Or False Modbus_TCP_Client.Enable := True; // Or False Modbus_TCP_Server.Enable := True; // Or False I tried to confirm the error manually to force reconnection with: Modbus_TCP_Server_Motors.xConfirmError := TRUE; I tried also this command to STOP/RESET/START client and server (codesys side) but nothing happens : status_client := Modbus_TCP_Client.SetCommunicationState(eRequestedState := DED.DEVICE_TRANSITION_STATE.STOP); // .RESET & .START The answer of this function when executed is "status_client = NOT_SUPPORTED" It seems that is a socket problem, but I do not understand if it is on the client or server side. Hi, I'm having some trouble with an OPC client connecting to the PLC. It could be that the problem is on the client side of things. The PLC have UPS power, but the switch and OPC client does not. It could explain some of the log messages. Could any of you help debugging by the log messages in the attachment? And if possible point me to the right library that explains the different messages? I have a DFRobot RS485 temperature & humidity sensor (SEN0438) connected to my Raspberry Pi via a USB to RS485 adapter. I am able to connect and read the sensor data when running a python code locally. However in Codesys, I encounter this error "A bus error has occurred." and "There was no response in time". Could this be because of Modbus Server Channel and Modbus Server Init configuration on my part? Admittedly I am new to Codesys. To get to this stage, I: 1. added some lines to CODESYSControl_User.cfg 2. added "Modbus_COM" in Codesys and set "Serial Port Configuration" under "General" 3. added "Modbus_Master_COM_Port" in Codesys and checked transmission mode is set to "RTU" 4. added "Modbus_Slave_COM_Port" in Codesys and checked server address is set to 1 (also set 1 in my sensor) 5. added 1 channel and 1 init for "Modbus_Slave_COM_Port" under "Modbus Server Channel" and "Modbus Server Init"

Some new test. Now I cannot connect from Automation server to my gateway in any way also from my office setup with my unit directly connected to my router by dhcp. I can use the IDE and the tool "Connect Edge Gateway" and successfully connect to my server/link to my Automation server account. However no PLC will respond from Automation server "Network scan". I guess the traffic should be initiated by the gateway towards automation server? Any tips on how I can diagnose my problem? Ports to be opened etc? Thing is that this has been working previously but not now (base system has been updated from debian 12 to debian 13, but I dont know at which point it has stopped working). Setup as before. A "Codesys Control for Linux SL" running on a debian 13 installation. Any help/tips appreciated! Per Update. Found the error. Had a wrong gateway-setting. Which meant the PLC could not reach internet. Checked by "ping google.com" from the PLC.

Defined (see attachment): - Ethernet (with parameters according to the used Ethernet adapter of my Windows 11 laptop) - -Modbus TCP Client - - -LOGO231 as Modbus TCP Server - - -WS242 as Modbus TCP Server (WaveShare Modbus TCP <-> RTU converter) - - - -WS242_01 as Modbus Server, COM port (slave-id 1 RTU) - - - -WS242_03 idem (slave-id 3 RTU) - - - -WS242_11 idem (slave-id 11 RTU) Writing coil/holding register works from a mapped I/O variable works fine. Verification of Modbus traffic with WireShark: QUERY to and the RESPONSE of all slave-ids are correct Status of all defined is CONNECTED, RESPONSE_SUCCESS, RUNNING etc. Request counters increase with expected frequency. Error counter = 0. (To have all counters works fine I had to change Modbus TCP Client's parameter OptimizationON to FALSE). LOGO231 works fine: values in mapped I/O conform expectation WS242 without Modbus Server, COM port and with defined channels (for only 1 slave-id possible) works fine. PLC Settings: Update I/O while in stop: I see xBusy changing from FALSE to TRUE and vice versa. Always update variables: Enabled 1

There appears to be a limit to the number of OPC Servers that can be connected simultaenously. 1-10 work but adding an 11th makes one of the previously linked ones unavailable. Is this a soft setting that can be adjusted? Using 3.5.18.30 on Win x64

Hello everyone, I am testing the ModbusFB library tcp server and so far I am able to create holding registers successfully, however, I am trying to identify after each write which registers got updated (i.e. function code, write value). I can even see the var udiNumWriteRequests, which increases with every write. I noticed that there is logging with the LogStatusInfo method. After I call it I am able to read in the console stuff that I want. Nevertheless, this is only available at the logs and is not easy to decode because it consists on several messages, I would like to know if there is a way for me to retrieve this information from the function itself with pointers or if there is any way to copy the logs messages (assuming that I can filter them with the LoggingOptions to only show what I need) inside the runtime code and not in the console. Solved (see comment) Setup: Kunbus RevPi Connect+ (a raspberry based PLC) Codesys runtime package: 4.5.0.0 (raspberry, armhf) based on Codesys V3.5.18.20 Edge Gateway: 4.5.0.0 (edgearmhf,armhf) EN: The edge-gateway was added over a year ago to the automation server. I now need to make a few changes to the Codesys software, but the Pi is not showing as online in the Automation Server. Internet connection is established, I have remote access to the Pi via RealVNC. Anyone have an idea how I can solve this? Some screenshots added. DE: Ich muss nun ein paar Änderungen an der Codesys-Software vornehmen, aber der Pi wird im Automation Server nicht als online angezeigt. Die Internetverbindung ist hergestellt, ich habe über RealVNC Fernzugriff auf den Pi. Hat jemand eine Idee, wie ich das Problem lösen kann?

Hi All, I use the analysis page in automation server to capture historical trends from my PLC - i only sample one point per hour but it does the job (for now) One issue I have is I often log on to analysis page to find the system has stopped recording trends from my PLC. To fix this, I need to choose "state information" in the "List view" under PLC and click "Reconnect" When I do this I see my variables listed under "parameters" under "PLC Details" start updating again and the trend in Data analyzer continues to update. My Question, Why do I need to manually reconnect? Is there a way to get automation server to automatically reconnect to the PLC so I continue to capture data from the PLC? Regards, Trent

If I am understanding what you are saying, then yes that would be your problem. I would create an array of bools on the client side for the transfer and try that. Or if client can't be changed then use words on server and unpack. But I am not sure if you or I are mis interpreting but it sounds a bit jumbled. I don't know what you have control of, but, if you are turning on BITS in the server, you should write to BITS in the client with a Function 15. If you are writing to WORDS in the server, you should write to WORDS in the client with a Function 16.
