This is my first time posting in this forum and I am new to codesys. I am a fullstack developer and I am trying to figure out how the following. What would be the best approach to create a own/custom tag browser? Either directly in codesys ide or using a separate custom program (perhaps a winforms application). 1.a. Shall I parse the .project xml file to get a list of all tags in the project? 1b. Shall I use python scripting in codesys ide to get a list of tags? Once one have selected some tags. These tags shall be exposed to a python program which will be acting as a edge computer. It’s fine to be able to import a file. 2a. I found a library called codesys plchandler which (as I understand) acts a rest api server. Is this correct? If so, can I query the api from a custom python script, ie can query what tags exist in project and or read tag values? My research so far. From earlier projects I know that using opc ua would be perfect for this but from my opinion it’s bloating the plc since it’s resource intensive. So opc ua is not an option. Codesys automation server is neat. But I don’t want to rely on some cloud services and subscription based pricing. There seem to be several interesting codesys libraries like mqtt, tcp server and NVL sender which would help me expose plc tags. But all have a common problem. One have to manually write what tags which will be used in these function blocks. I want a similar experience like “selecting” tags in the opc ua or the codesys tracing, ie a tag browser.

Hello, we have the same problem here. Our configuration in the following: Codesys V3.5 SP19 running on Exor Exware700Q Profinet network connected on Eth1 IOLink Master Turck TBEN-S2-4IOL version 3.5.9.0 IOLink sensors E+H & Sick (Pressure, T°) We installed the codesys IO link package and have the codesys IO Link SL licence activated (on a dongle) Our problem is the following: we got the IODD files from E+H & Sick we add the devices in the codesys device repository with success They appear in the devices tree under IODD branch We added the TBEN IOLink master under the Profinet IO . The IO link master are ok and display online. The IO-Link SL package datasheet indicate that there would be a way to scan the IOLink device from the network but we did not find any way to trigger this scan. (we expect to get this from a right click on each IO-Link Master module but the only possibility there is "Plug device") When clicking on Plug Device, we get a browse window with profinet IO modules. The IODD devices are not there so we cannot select them. But other devices for other brands are available and can be plugged. Our question are : 1) how do we update the Profinet IO Module catalogue in order to be able to plug the E+H & Sick Sensors that we have to work with? 2) how do we activate the Scan IOLlink device that is supposed to be included in the Codesys IO-link package? 3) where can we find the manual explaining how to use this package?

I started to experience the same issue, after upgrading to 3.5.19 , and still persists with 3.5.20.3 , using CodesysControlWinV3 x64 on Windows. Unfortunately, this is a live application, normally it is running for months without interruption - so it was a surprise at the last cold start... It was not possible to go online with the original version, so I couldn't see the application, or system status, just the log message. First time I manually clean the Application from the PlcLogic directory (there was no coredump file in there), then I could start the runtime service, and do a fresh download, and set the bootproject. I could not try a cold system reboot - it's in a 24/7 production environment, and I was under heavy pressure to start... What I did, I have created a backup from the * complete * runtime directory, from the failed, and fixed version - before and after download. This directory in my case C:\ProgramData\CODESYS\CODESYSControlWinV3x64\55096128 - At the next shutdown, it was sufficient to copy back this backup completely, and could start the runtime service afterwards. Ugly, but local staff with some skills can do it without programming tool... I don't store any live data, configuration, log files, persistent data in this directory - the only reason I need this is to edit the CodesysControl... .cfg file.... And to see the logfiles in emergencies like this. The application concerned doesn't use any retain area. - exactly for these reasons - Maybe that is causing the problem with the newer runtime versions As far as I see, this problem occurs only if the power of the Windows PLC is interrupted without a proper shutdown. Unfortunately, this can happen sometimes. The newer versions, seems tp modify CodesysControl.cfg on the fly, and register the applications, and bootproject information after download. (I don't really see CodesysControl.cfg a proper location for this... but that's just my feeling) So now I had a look at CodesysCotrol.cfg on my laptop and I found: [CmpRetain] ;Retain.SRAM.Size=0x200200 ;Retain.SRAM.Address=0xFA3C5776 ;SimulateSRAM=1 [CmpApp] ;Bootproject.CreateOnDownload=0 ;Bootproject.StoreOnlyOnDownload=0 ;Bootproject.InvalidateByRename=1 ;Bootproject.InvalidateBySetting=1 ;Bootproject.InvalidateNever=0 ;PersistentForce=0 ;RetainType.Applications=InSRAM ;RetainType.Applications=OnPowerfail ;RetainType.Applications=None ;Exception.Hardware.GlobalStop=1 Application.1=MyTestAppNoRetain The last line appeared after download and boot project creation. Maybe... Should set RetainType.Applications=None? I wonder about all these settings, but... Will write separately about it. I hope this helps a little...

Hello all, im working on a project that requires me to convert an old automation direct DirectSoft PLC d2-250-1. One of the problems im encountering is that all of the comments are attached to members of the different addresses. When i convert the addresses (1777 "C" registers, 777 X registers, and 20,0000 V registers) im running into difficulties keeping the inputs/outputs correct since they are missing documentation. Is there a good way to retain the comments of the indexes in the array? Secondly, initially i was declaring the "C" and "V" addresses individually and this worked to retain the comments as to which register did what, however i ran into a problem when one rung reset (or set to 0) approximately 600 C Addresses. Since each tag is separately declared this proved to be nearly impossible without a literal wall of code that attempted to crash the program. So i converted all of the registers (C,X,Y,V) into separate structs, declared them as arrays and pointed all of the original call outs in the program to the newly defined structs. However i have now lost comments and the program is very hard to follow. Thanks for any help with this issue.

Thanks So Much for the reply! Were using the Weidmuller UV66-ADV-10-CAP-W The HMI is pointed to the URL which is assigned through u-OS. Basically when you log into the controller's webserver via browser you can view the installed apps. One of which is the Codesys runtime. When you click on that it takes you to the visualization. That corresponding url is what the HMI is looking for. I apologize I don't have that on hand as I'm in the office right now. I don't think I tried connecting using the port you mentioned and https in lieu of the u_OS URL. I can certainly try. Out of the box the u-OS is set for HTTP. Since we're isolated I havent changed that yet. When this has happened while logged on via chrome on my laptop, simply refreshing brings the visualization right back. In the case of the HMI in kiosk mode, we power cycle the HMI to force a reconnect, log back in u-OS and the visualization is back.

Hello, I'm using Codesys V3.5 SP18 Patch 4. In the ElementCollectionExample Project from Codesys, I test the SimpleQueueExample in a Control Win V3 x64 environment. I try to add a string of 95 characters length to a queue. The default length of strings is defined as 80 characters. In the initialization of a string variable, it is possible to increase the length by the definition of e.g. STRING(1000). But when I write the string defined like this to the queue, only 80 characters are written to it and the rest is missing. I think the default length is still set in the queue definition, so it is necessary to change this, isn't it? Is there any option to increase the default length of strings in the queue? I have several libraries which contain values that should be saved on a PLC. As apparently no Persistent Variable List is available within Libraries, I use the Persistence Manager to create a Persistence Channel in the Project which imports the library. I then specify the persistence channel in the library using the {attribute 'ac_persist':='PersistenceChannel_CT'} specifier. This generally works very well and gives me exactly the properties I require. However, it came to my attention that the (alphabetially) first value from the library is not saved in the created ASCII file. When checking the content of the Persistence Channel, it shows all the variables as defined in the library. But the created file does not contain the first value and it is not restored after restart or reset. (see attached picture) I disabled Periodic Saving and set xSaveOnChange to TRUE and so the file usually updates immediately after changing one of the values. When changing the first value, it does not update which is consistent with this value not being saved. I also created a sample project and library from scratch which shows the same issue both using a Raspberry Pi and using a Linux machine. Does someone know what the reason for this could be or did someone make similar experiences? Looking forward to hearing your suggestions. Thanks in advance and best wishes Manuel

I have been trying out Unconnected_Send Explicit Message with route path.(The Unconnected_Send service shall use the Connection Manager object in each router to forward the message and to remember the return path. Vol 1.3 / 3-5.6.7) However, I could not see the correct path on Wireshark. I want to see the Unconnected_Send Message Service Code as 0x52 and also the last of the message should have the route path. I want to ask some questions about this topic. The IIoDrvEIPAcylicServices Interface has the IoDrvSendUnconnectedMessage Method. And there is a struct (EIP_SendUnconnectedMessage) for this service. But there is no information about how to implement to project, and if it is successful, does it send a message with 0x52 Unconnected_Send Service Code or not? If that is not a solution, how can I set the Unconnected_Send Explicit Message struct on Codesys? Also how can I send explicit message with route path?

Hi everyone, I'm currently working on a project involving the control of 5 VFDs via Modbus RTU, this time using the WAGO 750-8212 CPU. So far, I've managed to make progress, but I've encountered an issue. While I can successfully read and write to all the registers I need, I consistently encounter a "Response CRC Fail" error when attempting to write the value 1151 to the STW register at address 40100. I'm able to set the frequency via register 40101 and adjust all other parameters using different registers. Setting STW to 1150 results in the drive ready boolean from the ZSW-bit being received instantly. However, the moment I attempt to send 1151 to register 40100, I immediately receive the "Response CRC Fail" error for all channels. I've also attempted to use combined control, employing Modbus for frequency control and starting from a digital input. Everything seems to function properly until I send the start command to the VFD. Interestingly, I consistently encounter the same error the moment I send the start command, regardless of whether I use register 40006 (high) or 40100 (1151). Could someone please assist me in resolving this issue?

Hi Duvan, You could make this in 1 single object (FB), Indeed don't use a function for this beacuse you need some memory to keep the old value. You ofcourse then need to add some code arround it that does something with the trigger and writes it back to FALSE again. I want to configure each of them by define : - Modbus TCP Slave Configuration : Name, IPAddress, port - Channels - Mapping I can't afford to configure manually and I need to find automatic way What possibilities does the Codesys offer? 1. I know it possible to use python script to create Modbus TCP Master and Slave. But I don't find anyway to create Channels and Mapping through the API 2. I 've tested to set mapping with file.csv on a Modbus Tcp Slave, but no way to import channels definition from file 3. I 've tried to use PLCOpenXml file. For example I 've create a project with an Ethernet device. I've exported it in PlcOpenXml file. After delete the Ethernet device, I've imported the PlcOpenXml file without success. I've tried the same by creating Modbus TCP Slave. Could you help me to find to good way ? Thanks

Just realized that it is the /dev/input/js0 file. Don't think this is a prob either. Found the ConfigFile. Hello everyone, I hope you can help me with my problem. I am new to programming and am currently working with a WAGO controller in our lab, which controls a heat pump. My goal is to send the electrical power of the heat pump (Pel_WP) via a UDP connection to a specific IP address. I am using Codesys version 2.3 and following the guide I found here: https://forge.codesys.com/forum/de/396/genmed-Konfiguration%20der%20UDP%20Kommunikation%20Cosesys%20S7.pdf. I have adapted the guide to suit my needs. The data sending works since I can force the reception value Pel_WP and the data is sent accordingly. However, I am having trouble with the receiving part. The reception value is not being correctly received, and the diSocket variable shows -1. The connection between the heat pump and the WAGO controller seems to be set up correctly, as the heat pump is listed under the communication parameters with the correct IP address. I have also attached images to provide a better view of the setup. I would greatly appreciate any support or suggestions for a solution. Thank you in advance!

I am running a runtime environment on an ARM A35 dual-core processor (1.5GHz) and have encountered some issues. The CPU load (both CPU0 and CPU1) occasionally spikes above 50% before returning to normal, and this happens around 2-3 times per minute. At the same time, I’ve noticed that the Max Cycle Time in the Codesys monitoring screen shows much worse performance compared to the A53 (1.2GHz), with nearly double the cycle time. The optimizations I have made so far are as follows: Set the CPU to performance mode. Isolated CPUs: CPU0 is dedicated to running Linux services and the runtime itself, while CPU1 runs the EtherCAT task and the MainTask. Despite CPU1 only running these two tasks, the utilization still increases above 50%, which I find unreasonable. Additionally, I performed tests using cyclictest both without and with the runtime running. The performance is shown in the following image: From the results, I believe the CPU performance should be fine, but I am unsure why the monitoring results are not as expected. The testing outcomes should ideally be as close as possible to the cyclictest results. Does anyone have related solutions to this issue?

I successfully connected to the I/O card via Modbus and can read inputs without any issues. Dear People I’m trying to draw a circle using MC_MoveCircularAbsolute, but I keep encountering an error. The error message is SMC_CP_CIRCLE_CENTER_NOT_ON_BISECTOR. What I’m trying to do is simply draw a circle with a diameter of 20, starting from the point X=0, Y=0. I’ve set CircMode to center. It seems like a simple task, but the error keeps occurring, and it’s giving me a headache. I’d appreciate your help. I’ve also attached the program, so please provide any advice you can. Hi everyone, I’m completely new to CODESYS and have been teaching myself. And i Want to control an Axis using SM3RaspiStepper. Following the example on the RaspiStepper home page, I set up an axis through a POU and tied the SMC_StartupDrive (Visu) template to my axis instance (sud). Unfortunately, the motor never moves and I don’t see any pulses on the PULSE pin (GPIO 23). Hardware -Raspberry Pi 4 B -Nema 17 stepper motor -A4988 stepper driver (EN pin permanently tied to GND) Software / Runtime -CODESYS 3.5 SP21 Patch 1 – Raspberry Pi runtime (demo) -SoftMotion in demo mode -Package: SM3_RaspiStepper 0.0.0.6 Axis parameters: Pulse pin GPIO 23 Direction pin GPIO 24 Enable pin 0 (unused) Disable pin 0 (unused) Whether I start the axis from the visualization template or through Online Config Mode, the motor never spins. In Online Config Mode I press Power → the state changes from Standstill to Discrete_Motion, but the motor shaft is still locked and no step pulses appear on GPIO 23 (checked with a scope). I can provide screenshots of the Visualization, PLC logs, or wiring pictures if that helps. Any ideas on what I might be missing? Happy to provide screenshots, project files, or scope captures if that helps. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I wanted to use the Adafruit Hat for the Raspberry and get acquainted with Softmotion using servos for RC models. This did work great with Codesys 3.5.19 Patch 1, but with Patch 4 and 5 i get errors. I suspect changes in the SoftMotion library have broken dependencies in the legacy drivers, might that be true? Hello, I am new to Codesys and PLC programming in general (please go easy ha!) I'm not looking for code to be written for me just some help and pointing in the right direction. I am writing some code to send commands to a relay based on input values (to put it simply). Quite basic stuff. I have wrote a function block that takes a global variable (Open_command:BOOL) and outputs to another global variable (Opened : BOOL). The function block is simulating a device so I'll eventually get the globals from that. I now need to create multiple versions of this function block/ device (lets say 100) but I need each iteration of that function block to reference it's own relevant global variable. I think that the best way of doing this would be to use arrays, although I could be wrong. I am aware that for up to 100 instances I could very well manually assign everything but that seems rather time consuming and I want a fancier way of doing it. Here is a very basic example of what I am looking to do, please note I have not written this in proper code it's just to show what I mean. Global Variables V[0-100] int Open_command [0-100] Bool Opened [0-100] Bool Function Block var input x : BOOL Var output y : BOOL if x then y = TRUE ELSE y = FALSE The input to my function block will be Open_command, output will be Opened Example code. If V[x] > 10 then Open_command [x] = TRUE ELSE Open_command [x] = FALSE (So when V1 goes above 10 I need Open_command1 = TRUE therefore initiating FB1 output. V2 > 10, open_command2 = True > FB2 output V3 > 10, open_command3 = True > FB3 output ... ... ) What I can't seem to figure out is how to tie all this together, I have read through the codesys documentation and if anything it has confused me more! ha. Post by dantheman on Connecting to SoftPLC Only Works By Turning Off Modbus Ethernet Port CODESYS Forge talk (Post)
I have an IPC with 2 ethernet ports and 1 Wi-Fi. I'm using ModbusTCP with the ethernet port named "enp2s0" connected to my remote I/O. This works fine when testing with Python and also works with CODESYS, but CODESYS is only able to scan for the Linux SoftPLC when I turn off the "enp2s0" interface. In other words, I can't get online with the IDE if I want my ModbusTCP comms to run with CODESYS. I'm using a Linux SoftPLC that has the following entry in CODESYSControl.cfg, hoping that this will allow me to connect with "enp1s0" or "wlp3s0", and leave "enp2s0" for field comms, but this seems to only make the source IP of the ModbusTCP comms to be bound to "enp2s0". That last point is the case only if I don't restart the service, but if I do restart the service after changing the config file, the source IP for the ModbusTCP comms then becomes the one for "enp1s0", which is very confusing to me: [SysSocket] Adapter.0.Name="enp2s0" Adapter.0.EnableSetIpAndMask=1 On the device list, I only have "enp2s0" given as the ethernet device that has the ModbusTCP master & slave beneath it, shown in Screenshot 1. On the IPC, I can ping the ModbusTCP client (remote I/O) from "enp2s0", and I've attached a Wireshark capture of running ModbusTCP from the CODESYS runtime as Screenshot 2, 3 & 4 (again, I can't get online when this is running, I have to turn off "enp2s0" to connect even when it's idle and I don't have an active TCP session with my Python tests). Like I explained above, the source IP is "enp1s0", even though the ethernet device on the project is "enp2s0". I was lucky to catch the red message that showed the source IP that makes sense to me (the one for "enp2s0"), but for some reason that connection was reset and I never saw that packet again. I've also tried this with Auto-reconnect both enabled & disabled, for the ModbusTCP Master device. I also have to turn off "enp1s0" and then turn it on, just so that I can have the ModbusTCP comms running from "enp2s0" (which is not intuitive in any way to me, I'd love some help understanding that phenomenon as well) in the weird manner that I've described above. I would be very appreciative if someone can help me figure out this pickle. I'd love to just connect to CODESYS through my Wi-Fi interface and leave my ethernet ports for field comms.

Hello Folks, I have a quite basic understanding of how PLC programming works. However I keep getting stuck on 1 problem I could not get my head around. The problem is as follow: I have a PLC with 60 IO (20 inputs, 40 outputs). Each IO is defined as a function block. Furthermore I have an external IO card connected trough a CanBus connection. This IO card has 4 analog input channels (USINT), 4 digital inputs (Bool) and 4, digital outputs (Bool) Because I have 2 different components which both has data have I made 4 arrays to store the data off every component in one variable. PLC_Input: Array [1..20] of BOOL; PLC_Output: Array [1..40] of BOOL IOCard_Input: Array [1..8] of BOOL IOCard_Output: Array [1..4] of BOOL Because the control and reading of the different in and outputs is done by a TCP connection I want to use some kind of enumeration or struct to give each index a name so that my main would be a little bit more readable instead of all the magic numbers. Also this would make my program more dynamic for the furter in case I need to changes some in the IO nummers. For example: pump is placed on the fysical terminal strip number place 54, which is the 3th output of the IO card in the program: if I am sending a message with value 54 I would like to control IOCard_Output[3]. If there is a solution or methode to get this done, I can eventually do the following in my main program: IOCard_Output[Pump]. I have tried the following: IOCard_Output[Pump - 51] with an enumration but this keeps raising an error I hope some of you could help me further with this problem. In gross lines: I want to couple all the different IO to a more readable name and this readable name should control the right Array index Thanks in advance, George
