Hi All I was watching the Wago PFC300 webinar ( https://www.wago.com/global/lp-thank-you-onlineseminar-pfc-300 ), and the presenters comment about priority 1 being way above the Ethernet task priority, so that a priority 1 PLC program can actually loose SCADA connection, made me try to round up some hard evidence on Codesys Priorities. I find there is very little information on "correct" task priority configuration. There is a lot of different hardware manufacturers, using Codesys Runtime, that has different descriptions in their manuals on how to set up priority. https://doku.amk-motion.com/en/Subsystems/PDK_202975_A-Serie_en/Content/Projekt/AMKAMAC/PDK_202975_A4-A5_Produktbeschreibung/Funktionalitaet/PLC-Programming/PLC%20Tasks.htm?TocPath=PLC-Programming%7C_____7 https://product-help.schneider-electric.com/Machine%20Expert/V1.1/en/SoMProg/index.htm?#t=SoMProg%2FTask_Editor%2FTask_Editor-7.htm&rhsearch=priority&rhhlterm=priority&rhsyns=%20&SUBSTRSRCH=1 https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Development%20System/_cds_f_task_configuration.html So my questions :) 1) If there is only 1 PLC_PRG task, does priority matter? 2) What is the priority of Ethernet / communication, if nothing is entered? 3) What is the priority of Codesys OPC UA server? 4) Some users here on forge mentions that Wago PLC programs should run as priority 11, but where does this recommendation origin from? 5) What are you recommendations for a relatively slow process, like building automation? It uses OPC UA for communication to SCADA, maybe some MODBUS-RTU and MODBUS-TCP, usually around 100 I/O, been running with everything in a single task at priority 1, 50-100ms cycle time. Some controllers have separate MODBUS tasks, but doesn't seem like a big difference. How would you recommend splitting up communication, IO fieldbus and programs into differently prioritized tasks? I know its a complex matter and all about my application, but I really miss there was just some kind of guidance in the documentations and with all new standard Codesys programs having priority 1 as default, makes it seem less important, than it really is.

Post by ppix on Establishing TLS Connection with MQTT Broker using MQTT Client SL Package

(Post)
I’m currently working on establishing a TLS connection with an MQTT broker using the MQTT Client SL package in CODESYS. While I’ve successfully established communication with the broker without TLS, I'm encountering issues when trying to enable TLS. In the 'MQTT Explorer' application, I can easily upload the server certificate (.crt), client certificate (.crt), and client key (.key). However, in CODESYS, I can’t find a way to upload my client key (.key file). Here's a summary of my current setup: Certificates: I have uploaded both the client and server certificates to the certificate store under the 'Trusted Certificates' folder in the security screen. TLS Context Initialization: Despite setting the _sCommonName as the name of my client certificate, a new self-signed certificate is created and placed within the device’s certificates. I then need to manually move this certificate to the trusted certificates folder. This results in three certificates in my trusted certs folder: client cert, server cert, and the newly created cert. _ciDefaultCertInfo : MQTT.NBS.CERT_INFO := (psInfo := ADR(_sCommonName), udiSize := TO_UDINT(LEN(_sCommonName))); // CN of the certificate (common name) _sCipherList : MQTT.NBS.CIPHER_LIST := STRUCT(psList := ADR('HIGH'), udiSize := 4); // Cipher string see https://www.openssl.org/docs/man1.1.1/man1/ciphers.html _tlsContext : MQTT.NBS.TLSContext := ( sUseCaseName := _sCommonName, // A certificate is stored in the certificate store with the use case name. You can choose any name. Here we use the common name. ePurpose := MQTT.NBS.PURPOSE.CLIENT_SIDE, // For client certificates set this to NBS.PURPOSE.CLIENT_SIDE sTLSVersion := '1.3', // The TLS version sCipherList := _sCipherList, // Set the cipher list sHostname := sHostname, // The hostname of the broker udiVerificationMode := 2, // 2 => Active Peer verification ciCertInfo := _ciDefaultCertInfo, // Set the cert info itfCertVerifer := 0); // 0 => No Verifier mqttClient : MQTT.MQTTClient := (xUseTLS:=TRUE, itfTLSContext := _tlsContext, itfAsyncProperty := _asyncProperty); Additional Details: In the client FB, I’ve set uiPort:= 8883, xUseTLS:= TRUE, and configured itfTLSContext as mentioned above. The certificates are encrypted with SHA256RSA. sHostname is the IP address of my broker. I’ve attached a copy of the client FB, which shows straight lines where variables are assigned and boxes where they are not. I am currently trying this on the only 2 compatible versions of COSDESYS with my controller (V3.5.15.20 and V3.5.18.40) My Question: How do I correctly set up this mTLS connection? What might I be missing? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially considering I’ve already successfully established a non-TLS connection with the same broker. Thank you in advance for your help!

Important: ` - Backtick - ASCII 96 ' - Apostrophe or Single Quote - ASCII 39 In the online help for some reason it renders ’ ... The only issue I don't get, why identifiers are still case-insensitive, even within `backtricks`? `mPa` and `MPa` for milli-, mega Pascal are the same identifiers, unfortunately... Is this a bug or a feature? Otherwise can do pretty nasty things with it: // A practical (?) Have the same issue: I'm making a test setup for modbus devices testing and calibration. One is run for every possible address, and it starts with minimal request: if the device is found, it continue to work with it, otherwise it's set to Disabled temporary. Those state machines are running under FOR cycle, and disabled are just skipped. Every instance have its own timer for not running too frequently and a start delay, so the actual requests are separate in time. I also check not for a single error, but have some timer to allow one-two timeouts. The small program disables and re-enables devices temporary (manually, since i could not iterate over MB devices). VAR Reset:ARRAY[1..GVL_MB.MD_COUNT] OF R_TRIG; i:INT; END_VAR {IF hasconstantvalue(GVL_MB.MD_COUNT, 1, >= )} i:=1; MD_1.Enable:=GVL_MB.MDPortsEnable[i]; Reset[i](CLK:=GVL_MB.MDPortsEnable[i]); MD_1.xReset:=Reset[i].Q; {END_IF} {IF hasconstantvalue(GVL_MB.MD_COUNT, 2, >= )} i:=2; MD_2.Enable:=GVL_MB.MDPortsEnable[i]; Reset[i](CLK:=GVL_MB.MDPortsEnable[i]); MD_2.xReset:=Reset[i].Q; {END_IF} There is also program to re-enable devices periodically. METHOD ScanBus VAR_INPUT END_VAR VAR j:INT; (*block auto scanning if calibration is running for any device since it's data-reach process that should not be interrupted with modbus timeouts *) CalibrationBusy:BOOL:=FALSE; END_VAR CalibrationBusy:=FALSE; FOR j:=1 TO GVL_MB.MD_COUNT DO CalibrationBusy:=CalibrationBusy OR MD_Calibrate.AutoTesters[j].xBusy; END_FOR; IF CalibrationBusy THEN RETURN; END_IF tBusScanSchedule(IN:=(NOT tBusScanSchedule.Q), PT:=tBusScanPeriod); IF (NOT tBusScanDelayer.Q) AND (tBusScanSchedule.Q OR (NOT xFirstScanPerforemed)) THEN xBusScanBusy:=TRUE; MissingCounter:=0; xFirstScanPerforemed:=TRUE; FOR j:=1 TO GVL_MB.MD_COUNT DO (* MD_Calibrate is main calibration program. Identifiers - is array of State machines mentioned above Phase_Faulted is a state of Identifiers where I'm sure device is missing on the bus *) IF MD_Calibrate.Identifiers[j].state=eStateMDIdentifier.Phase_Faulted THEN MD_Calibrate.Identifiers[j].Rescan(); MissingCounter:=MissingCounter+1; END_IF END_FOR END_IF tBusScanPauser(IN:=tBusScanDelayer.Q AND (MissingCounter>0),PT:=tBusScanDelay*MissingCounter); xBusScanBusy:=tBusScanPauser.Q; xFirstScanPerforemed:=xFirstScanPerforemed OR tBusScanPauser.ET>=tBusScanPauser.PT; Also the GUI have buttons for each address possible that re-enables the device if required.

Init runs before xEnable (the writer doesn't run with xEnable=FALSE). The UADP.writerGroup FB exposes only itfSecurityGroup for security — no SecurityMode/MessageSecurityMode property. Result: the published datagrams are still plaintext — ExtendedFlags1 = 0x01 (security bit 0x10 clear), no security header: b1 01 29 00 0f 16 00 … (PublisherId 41, WriterGroupId 22, RawData, no security) Questions With UADP.writerGroup, is assigning a configured + keyed PSS.SecurityGroup to itfSecurityGroup sufficient to enable message security, or is there an additional step/property/method to switch the WriterGroup to SignAndEncrypt? At what point in the WriterGroup lifecycle is itfSecurityGroup read? Must it be assigned/keyed before xActive, and does the group need a stop→start to pick it up? Is there a required call order, and does SetSecurityKeys need to be called once or repeatedly? Should security be configured on the Connection/Configuration level rather than (or in addition to) the WriterGroup? Is there a working example of secured (SignAndEncrypt) programmatic UADP publishing with this library, or a known limitation in 1.3? How can I read back at runtime whether security is actually active (via itfDiagnostics or similar)? Post by caspershes on Checking the device tree, not just the code: what else is worth a static check?
CODESYS Forge
talk
(Post)
I spend most of my time reviewing other people's CODESYS projects before commissioning, and two kinds of defects keep showing up. Both compile clean. Both read fine. One is in the code. A pause timer whose own input gets cleared inside the branch the timer is supposed to gate: rampDelay(IN := run_2); IF NOT run_2 OR rampDelay.Q THEN run_1 := TRUE; run_2 := FALSE; // the timer's own input, cleared right here ELSE run_1 := FALSE; run_2 := FALSE; END_IF Next scan IN is FALSE, the timer resets, the condition is true again, and the second pump starts immediately. A 30-second ramp delay that actually lasts one task cycle. The setpoint is on the HMI, the operator turns it, and nothing changes. The other is not in the code at all. On one site the outdoor temperature read 0.0 °C in mild weather. The ST was correct, the variable was bound to the channel — but the channel's sensor type was left at "disabled", so nothing was ever digitised. Same class: a module with Disable_module = TRUE, or an analog output bound to a variable while its mode is off. Nothing in the project reports any of this, and the code review never looks there, because the configuration lives in the device tree and not in the POUs. That second class is what pushed me to parse the .export format rather than PLCopenXML alone — the export carries the device tree and the visualization, so "nothing ever writes this alarm variable" stops being a guess and becomes a fact you can check against the screen bindings. Three things about the format that cost me time, in case they save you some: the same device parameter can appear three times (template, internal copy, actual configuration) — the last occurrence is the one in effect; the enum value of a parameter is not in the parameter itself, it is one level down in BaseType/Value; a channel counts as used when a variable is bound to SensorValueN.SensorValue — InputStatus is a bad indicator, people deliberately bind it on spare inputs. So the question. What else would you check automatically, given both the code and the device tree? I am collecting rules from sites, not from style guides, and the configuration side feels largely unexplored. For what it is worth, the checker I use for this is free and runs offline (single exe, no install, nothing uploaded anywhere): https://github.com/caspershes/plc-lint — 43 rules at the moment, reads .export and PLCopenXML. Happy to add rules people here suggest.

Hello Folks, I have a quite basic understanding of how PLC programming works. However I keep getting stuck on 1 problem I could not get my head around. The problem is as follow: I have a PLC with 60 IO (20 inputs, 40 outputs). Each IO is defined as a function block. Furthermore I have an external IO card connected trough a CanBus connection. This IO card has 4 analog input channels (USINT), 4 digital inputs (Bool) and 4, digital outputs (Bool) Because I have 2 different components which both has data have I made 4 arrays to store the data off every component in one variable. PLC_Input: Array [1..20] of BOOL; PLC_Output: Array [1..40] of BOOL IOCard_Input: Array [1..8] of BOOL IOCard_Output: Array [1..4] of BOOL Because the control and reading of the different in and outputs is done by a TCP connection I want to use some kind of enumeration or struct to give each index a name so that my main would be a little bit more readable instead of all the magic numbers. Also this would make my program more dynamic for the furter in case I need to changes some in the IO nummers. For example: pump is placed on the fysical terminal strip number place 54, which is the 3th output of the IO card in the program: if I am sending a message with value 54 I would like to control IOCard_Output[3]. If there is a solution or methode to get this done, I can eventually do the following in my main program: IOCard_Output[Pump]. I have tried the following: IOCard_Output[Pump - 51] with an enumration but this keeps raising an error I hope some of you could help me further with this problem. In gross lines: I want to couple all the different IO to a more readable name and this readable name should control the right Array index Thanks in advance, George

Hi guys, Recently, I am working at the Dynamic I/Os mapping feature in Ecockpit or Codesys v3.5. I have been trying the libraries. However, it looks like it will not work as I wanted. I want to build the PLC which can detect all the I/Os itself and from there, I can do something on these channels. For example, the current setup is one digital input card, one digital output card and one analogue input card. Then, I want to add one more card into the setup e.g. one more digital input. Then, wago screen can detect this and we can assign them to tasks for example to control digital output. May I know is it possible ? Kind regards

Hi everybody, recently I was checking how many time consuming manual tasks I can perform with python scripts through ScriptEngine. I have in the project many devices and currently I export bootprojects for them by right clicking on Application, then go Export -> Bootproject and firmware (SD Card) and then point folder where files should be exported. It's fine if project has few devices, but I have some of them with over 30 devices and manual clicking like that is very time consuming. How can I do it with python script? So far I found "create_boot_application" method from Application object (taken by projects.primary.find('Application', True)) but it only generates .app and .crc file instead of full structure to store on SD card (FIRMWARE, USERDATA, SDCARD.INI, Version, Version.txt.sig). Should I use some method to control user interface? Best regards, Adam

I want to implement an extended I2C master for Raspberry Pi Control. I was hoping for it to be as easy as creating a library with a FB that extends i2cMaster and associating it with a device following the forge drivers documentation, but I haven't managed to make it work as the driver behaves only as an i2c slave. I'm thinking this is because the forge forum only talks about extending i2c, and the master portion is omitted since most users won't want to add a custom one. I'd like to know if I'm doing something wrong. Is it really possible to make an I2C master extension device? If so, are there public examples we can check out? Any info on this topic will be appreciated.

I am trying to replicate it in my project and everything seems to be set up the exact same way and every time I turn on the filter, it shows no alarms. I even started a blank project and just copied in elements from the example project so that it is exactly the same and when I attempt to filter, it again shows no alarms. Could there be some project settings I need to adjust to make this work? I have attached my project with elements copied from the example project and filtering is not working.

If I am understanding what you are saying, then yes that would be your problem. I would create an array of bools on the client side for the transfer and try that. Or if client can't be changed then use words on server and unpack. But I am not sure if you or I are mis interpreting but it sounds a bit jumbled. I don't know what you have control of, but, if you are turning on BITS in the server, you should write to BITS in the client with a Function 15. If you are writing to WORDS in the server, you should write to WORDS in the client with a Function 16.

Ciao, here same question https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/2538729618/ in this post https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/4586a90290/?limit=25#d531 i find : keep in mind that all files which are generated / or read should be exist in the iecfilepath this means: for Windows (Control Win as example) c:\ProgramData\CODESYS\CODESYSControlWinV3x64\268E8ADF\PlcLogic for Linux /var/opt/codesys/PlcLogic I never use codesys on windows but im sure on linux we can manipulate file only inside /var/opt/codesys/Plc Logic. Or you need to modify the file codesyscontrol.cfg for change path permission, but this is another history Buone feste !

Hello all, I would like to create a simple which runs directly on Control WinV3 x64 3.5.21.0 For this purpose I created a simple dll myAdder.dll in Cpp // MyAdder.cpp // cl /LD /EHsc MyAdder.cpp /Fe:MyAdder.dll #include <windows.h> extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) int __cdecl CmpMyAdder_Add(int a, int b) { return a + b; } I added the dll in the respective folder. Furthermore I "registred" the dll in the CODESYSControl.cfg. However, when I want to use the library I get the error message: Uresolved reference: *'CMPMYADDERADD' * Can you give me a hint what step I missed or where I need to declare the dll, such that the dll resp. the reference can be resolved. Many thanks and kind regards

Hi, Could you please send an print of your ethernet adapter info? Ip addr Subnet Mask Default Gateway Also, check if the gateway service is active in your windows. Win+R > services.msc > Look in the list CODESYS Control Win V3 x64 Gateway OR CODESYS Gateway V3 Hook up the M12 code D into the ETH port, supply the controller, it should apperars to you. Make sure when you try to connect with the controller, the target of your project has to match with the controller. Otherwise, click on the device in the devices tree > Communications Settings tab > Device > Options > And disable "Filter Network Scans by Target ID". Good luck.

Hi, I want to use two OneWireMaster on a Raspberry Pi5. I'm running Codesys Control for Raspberry Pi 64SL V 4.15.0.0. Under Linux I've configured two GPIOs for 1w bus usage on GPIO4 and GPIO27. Under Linux both masters seem to work fine and I can readout both sensors connected to both GPIOs. The two masters are 'w1_bus_master1' and 'w1_bus_master2'. In Codesys I've configured to OneWireMasters with the corresponding file paths. But in Codesys the 2nd onewiremaster "w1_bus_master2" doesn't work. Status is showing "OnewireMaster : Not running" What am I doing wrong? Does Codesys on Raspberry support multiple OneWireMasters? Any help is appreciated.

I'm beta-testing a new EtherCAT drive for a rotary (modulo) axis in a system where the encoder resolution is 81920000 counts per rotation. If I enter this in the SoftMotion Scaling/Mapping tab for "increments <=> motor turns", I get the error below on the Commissioning tab. Is SM unable to handle a high-resolution encoder? The bus cycle is currently set to the default of 4 msec (Control Win V3 x64), although I plan to reduce that to reduce latency, possibly by switching to the realtime (RT) master. Is SoftMotion incompatible with high-resolution encoders? SMC_CGR_INVALID_POSPERIOD Invalid modulo period (<= 0 or greater than half the bus bandwidth)

Follow up question: in the Project Settings, under Library Development, there is an option related to this: Check all Pool Objects -> Pointer size to use Options are: * 32 Bit * 64 Bit * 32 and 64 Bit The descriptions and online help suggest to me this is only relevant for checking and showing any incorrect pointer types as an error in the IDE. E.g. using a DWORD to store a pointer value on a 64-bit controller. It would not control the creation of either 32-bit or 64-bit compiled libraries. Is that correct?

All seemd to work, the project is created on the PC B, i create my with with online.create_online_application(project.project.active_application) recover my onlineDevice and try onlinedevice.connect() so that i can use create_live_user_management() but then a problem occure on my connect() saying gateway not configured properly. I have setted my set_credentials_for_initial_user(). when i use the Ui, there is absolutely no problem. an other question, is it possible to use the Start and Stop PLC of codesys Control Systray directly in my python script? So that if it detect that it's stopped, then he automatically start it?

Hi, Found a nice ramp function in the OSCAT lib (FT_RMP), but is there a nice way to 'set' the output to the current input as form of a reset. The reason for this, is that I want to set up a ramp for a pressure control input that should have x Bar/sec linear rise input. The only option (or code it by hand) I found is this OSCAT FB. Any other options? Just need to increase a value by x Bar/sec from let's say 250Bar (as start) to end 1500Bar. The Oscat ramp will always start at 0 when enable is off (FT_RMP.Rmp := FALSE)

To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
