Hello everyone, I am currently working on reading data from energy analyzers using Modbus TCP and RTU (RS-485). In my previous software, I used the following method to add slave devices (i have attached the image) and configure registers: Add the Modbus slave device. Configure the communication parameters (baud rate, parity, etc.). Define the registers and their addresses for data retrieval. Now, I am trying to achieve the same in CODESYS 3.5, but I am not sure how to configure the Modbus master, add slave devices, and set up the registers properly. If anyone has experience with Modbus TCP/RTU setup in CODESYS 3.5, I would really appreciate your guidance! A step-by-step explanation or any references/tutorials would be extremely helpful.

I got this code working again. 3S/CoDeSys, your level of obfuscation and lack of documentation turns a simple task into a monumental complex challenge. The issue was that at some point the IecVarAccessLibrary changed and no longer allowed using IBaseTreeNode to retrieve a child or the number of children. The attached code has been updated to use IIecVarAccess6.VarAccBrowseGetChildByIndex instead. The code was also cleaned up but is still a work in progress. The current example only works one layer deep. This means native data types, arrays, and single-layer structures are supported. However, structure arrays and nested structures are not yet supported.

Follow up question: in the Project Settings, under Library Development, there is an option related to this: Check all Pool Objects -> Pointer size to use Options are: * 32 Bit * 64 Bit * 32 and 64 Bit The descriptions and online help suggest to me this is only relevant for checking and showing any incorrect pointer types as an error in the IDE. E.g. using a DWORD to store a pointer value on a 64-bit controller. It would not control the creation of either 32-bit or 64-bit compiled libraries. Is that correct?

Looking for a better way to manage Persistent Variables. We tend to have local vars in our FBs that need persistence through downloads as the systems are updated/altered on a regular basis. Retain would suffice if we had an easy mechanism to backup and restore like we can with Persistent variables and recipes. Although not having to remember that step with Persistent variables is preferred. We're running into issues with persistent storage capacity (WAGO PFC200) using the Persistent variable list (and adding all instances). It appears there are many ways to handle this, some with recipes, some with files, others with application manager. Is there a solution that exists that is as simple as declaring as Persistent and managing elsewhere? Or do we need to move onto periodically writing CSVs?

Iv been working with a Deep Sea Electronics DSE840 for about 6 months. I have a development version of my program working with a state machine and a basic gui interface. I went to implement CAN and suddenly the text on the gui on the controller is much larger than before. I could flash old versions of my project and the text was the correct size, but if i renamed the project file, the text displayed would be large. The visualization in CODESYS always shows the expected size, but not the controller. I did a fresh install of CODESYS and even a new project with only one text box, I cant get the text size on the controller to match what is displayed in codesys to match. Any advice?

We just installed (we have a tested image) and added a license Now the license policy has changed and we have to buy a License Control Basic S or M However it only works with CODESYS Development System Version 3.5.19.10 or higher Does that mean we have to upgrade all our old products? That is not a simple task as a previous post has explained with weird error messages from CODESYS V3.5. Next we have to do rigorous testing of our applications afterwards. It is very expensive

Make sure the O->T and T->O bytes required by the remote device match the configuration in Codesys. Most of the EDS files I've imported have not worked by default. See the attached images for the connections and assemblies tabs. Note that the connections are in Bytes and the assemblies are in bits, you have to have enough bits to equal the bytes. Either mismatch will give a red/orange triangle. Page 343 of the manual (assuming the STF10-IP is an applied motion microstep driver) has some recommended connection settings, you should be able to confirm the input and output bits somehow, some devices have a web GUI, some require a software tool.

Hello community, I just want to inform you about our plans and the current status of automating the build process for CODESYS libraries. So it might be helpful for some people who are in the same situation. Background story: I am a software engineer at powerIO GmbH, normally I use high level languages for the products we develop and offer. Sometimes I work with my team on CODESYS libraries, which can also be found in the CODESYS store. Most of the time I spend with them on architecture tasks and tasks that are not directly related to our products. Every time I see the manual processes for releasing a library etc., I am very surprised about this time intensive process. Current situation: I know there has been a scripting interface for years. CODESYS Git was released a few years ago, but the scripting interface was only released a few months (weeks?) ago. We developed a pseudo-automated solution a few months ago, but it was all very hacky. So now there is a better Git implementation and also more modularization and installation options. For example, the CODESYS installer has a full CLI, which makes it very convenient to install CODESYS installations headless. Plans: I think it's the right time to develop a better automation solution. Most of our software projects are hosted on Github and we use Github actions very intensively for other software projects. Therefore, we have decided to use Github for our CODESYS library projects as well. Following tasks should be implemented in automation for CI/CD tasks: - Automated setup of CODESYS installation (Already released: https://github.com/marketplace/actions/setup-codesys-installation) - Checkout CODESYS libraries - Execute tests scripts - Sign CODESYS libraries - Extract Library documentation - Create CODESYS package - Sign CODESYS package Side Note: - This is mainly a side project, and we do not provide support for the CI/CD part. - This topic is here to help and also to get help from other software engineers. - This project and idea is not prioritized as I am currently the only one working on it and I hope it will help us and also others and increase productivity. - We are putting this out there as an organization, but priorities can change quickly and the CI/CD tasks I am developing are mostly done in my spare time. So please don't expect this to happen in a short time or even be fully completed. I would be very happy if some ppl will join the development process and might be open to discuss some technical details for this. Hello, CODESYS Control is running on my RevPi, and my system communicates over a CANbus with a master using the ConnectCan module (Slave - CANopen Device). The communication works perfectly fine so far. However, as soon as I call a Python script with "SysProcessExecuteCommand2" that creates a CSV file and executes without errors, the master does not adopt any changes to the Transmission Process Data Objects (TPDOs). I don't quite understand what one has to do with the other, and perhaps someone can help me with this. Unfortunately, the "C0138: No matching 'FB_Init" method found" error is a nightmare for CODESYS V3.5 SP21. I'm not sure if anything has been done about this or if anything will be fixed. I've encountered the same issue many times, and it was only resolved by completely uninstalling SP21, deleting all related files and folders from my computer, and then installing SP19. So, I've given up on using SP21 and switched back to SP19patch7. I tried with the default Login Visu (Blue one), and still see the same behavior - VisuUserManagement.VUM_LoginVisualization - I've tried with Chrome and Edge. Thanks for your help

I'm using the SMC_GroupJog2 block from the SM3_Robotics library for manual movement of an AxisGroup in WCS coordinates. The observed behavior is: When pressing X+, the X-axis starts moving correctly. If I press Y+ during the movement, the block interrupts the current movement and starts a new movement in X and Y. If I release any button, all axes stop, even if another button is still pressed. Example: Pressing X+ → X moves Pressing X+ and Y+ → X stops momentarily and starts XY movement Releasing X+ while holding Y+ → all axes stop The expected behavior would be: to allow simultaneous continuous movement on multiple axes to not interrupt movement when another axis is added or removed. Is there a correct configuration of SMC_GroupJog2 to achieve this behavior, or is there another block more suitable for continuous manual jog in AxisGroup (WCS)?

Hello, basically the i950 drive support CiA402 Basic and CiA402 Advanced modes. I attached pictures of both mode supported functions. It also support CSP, VL, CSV and CST modes. It seems the homing mode is in CiA402 Advanced mode but how can you not have the homing mode in both modes? It is a vital part of any servo system. If I use the SoftMotion standard demo mode, I can move the servo absolute and relative but cannot home it. But in SoftMotion Light mode, I cannot execute any motion function. B&R, for example, is likely the only one that could truly challenge Codesys in the market: they’ve overhauled their once-archaic environment (previously lacking ST OOP) and are now catching up significantly with Automation Studio Code, offering modern programming capabilities and native support for tools like Git and GitHub Copilot. The other big names in the market, frankly, are still light years behind. For smaller projects, typically handled by “wire strippers” (with all due respect!), a classic environment might be just fine. But once you’re dealing with thousands or even millions of lines of code—possibly organized in an OOP paradigm, spanning large teams, integrating third-party libraries, requiring version control, and performing comprehensive tests—a lightweight, responsive editor supercharged with AI-based features becomes essential. The real strength of something like VS Code lies in its vast ecosystem of extensions and integrations: from advanced Git support to automated build/test pipelines, and even AI-assisted autocompletion that already makes software development much more agile and productive. I understand that a PLC project involves more than just ST code (task setup, fieldbus configuration, libraries, etc.). However, there’s no technical reason not to at least provide ST files in a pure text format, making version control and collaboration far easier. B&R has clearly adopted this approach; I hope Codesys will accelerate its own efforts to offer a native, text-based integration and modern development tooling. Once you go beyond a certain level of complexity—dozens of configurations, OOP hierarchies, and distributed teams—you really do need “engineer-level” software tools, not just solutions targeting “wire strippers.” For large-scale automation projects, a more open and flexible approach is the only way to avoid chronic frustration. Let me emphasize that I truly love Codesys and consider the work done so far to be brilliant—I’d be sorry to see it overshadowed by others moving faster in this direction.

hello kevinrn, I've been looking for a solution to the CI/CD issue for a long time. Briefly about me... I am 32 and software architect for Codesys V3 and fullstack dev for web (VueJS, NestJS) in a small company in Erfurt (Germany). https://www.rex-at.de/. Through my web part, we already have CI/CD running well via GitLab (YAML-based configuration file (.gitlab-ci.yml), which defines which pipelines and jobs are executed when certain events occur) with everything you know. Stages for npm packages - prepare (GitVersion, npm install or whatever) - build (vite, tsc or whatever) - testing (vitest, jest or whatever) - deploy (npm packages) And similar for monorepo's or backend services (in NestJS) as DockerImages. For Codesys we have been building an OOP framework for years (~50 libraries now), which is currently managed via SVN and a specially written Svn-Watcher (in Python) gets commits and runs and builds everything together and deploys it to an FTP server and network drive. Why do we still have SVN? Because we are unfortunately still tied to the safety integration of Codesys and can therefore only go to SP15 at most with our controller/Eckelmann. But soon there will be an update and there will be no more obstacles to using Git. Hence my questions: 1. the basic idea is to run a local Windows Runner on some machine? 2. install Codesys on the machine where the runner is running? 3. powershell & python scripts are then used to execute builds (compile, build, sign libraries) & deploys? 4. can the Github action also be used in GitLab? ChatGPT has already told me that it's not the same, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Do you have any ideas on this? Greetings :D

Goodmorning TimvH, Thanks for the reply. I don't know if your solution solve my trouble yet, I am going to see the link you sent me. In the mean time I try to explane better what I need to do. I have a turbine system that get in alarm under some condition (E.g low speed of turbine) and block the itself. When the system is stoped there is no speed turbine and the system cannot start. To give to the operetor the possibility to bypass the alarms, there is an acknoledgement alarm pushbutton. This bypass must not work for everyone but only for those client that perform the login by (User Management). Furthermore, if the user perform the (manual or automatic) logout in alarm conditions, the acknowlegment must be annulled and block the system again. To do this, I need to know if an operator is logged in the page and is working to fix the problem; otherwise the syste must autoturn off again. Now I go to study your solution, if I have explaned better and you have another idea tell me please.

I am currently working on a project using CODESYS and Control Win on a Windows computer. I've encountered an issue where I am unable to save a CSV file. I have followed the standard procedures and used the appropriate file handling functions, but the file is not being created or saved as expected. Hello there, I am new here and in programming. I need help with the basics. I am trying to do what I mentioned in the title. I have an analog input. So I have a real or integer data type value. I want to delay it. TON and TOF only work with bool. I think there is a function block that has two inputs, 1 for real or int and 1 for bool. And if bool is true, it will give the output as real or int. I don't know but I need something like this. Actually, it is not exactly like that. In other words, it will not show the real value at the input at the output after a certain period of time. I want it to show the real value from 2 seconds ago continuously. The purpose of doing this is to compare the real value I received with the value from 2 seconds ago and find out whether it went up or down. I am using only FBD. Please help me with this. Hello! I am trying to compare 2 projects via the --compare CLI option. In the docs for the --compare option, it describes the usage as .\CODESYS.exe --compare "project path 1" "project path 2". I store my projects in WSL2 on my windows machine. Since CODESYS is happy to open those projects via a path like \\wsl.localhost\home\project.project. So, to compare, I use the command .\CODESYS.exe --compare "\\wsl.localhost\home\prog1.project" "\\wsl.localhost\home\prog2.project". This results in CODESYS just opening the project and starting, not comparing the two projects. No errors are thrown, and I know the paths are correct since I can open both independently in CODESYS, and I can compare them manually through the CODESYS UI. I have also tried moving my projects to the Windows 11 OS and still have the same issue. CODESYS opens the project and does not actually compare them. I am using CODESYS profile v3.5 sp20 patch 1. What is the correct way to compare 2 projects using the --compare CLI option?

Dear All, Dear CODESYS, I'm curiously following CODESYS transitioning away from the CAA libraries, and I'm mostly in favor of these major changes. Naturally, I'd like to align my current (not end-user) developments accordingly. I'm tracking , reading release notes, ... And want to figure out the future :) Is it possible to hear / read more about the reasons, objectives and scope of these changes? One important element is CAA Types - CAA Types Extern. What is the plan with that? What's the future of CAA.SEMA, CAA.BOLT ? I have never used them (always relied on SysLib*), but they are tempting... Would be useful to have a platform independent "Macro" for this functionality... Is there something in existing or planned ? Are they suitable to be used in low level libraries... For Example IO-Drivers, Components, "to-become system libraries"? CAA.TaskLock, CAA.TaskUnlock ? Well, they don't claim platform independency, so I can't rely on those.... Any up-to-date advise, standard, pattern to follow in new libraries for task and resource locking? Practical set of conditional defines to be used? If this information is not publicly available, can you please send a private message about the proper way to achieve this? I have support agreement, just couldn't get trough with these questions... P.

I have set up a brandnew Beckhoff panel pc with a codesys control runtime V3. I configured it together with 2 profinet field devices: a 16in/16out IO module from Turck and an MTS linear encoder. The machine works fine untill all of a sudden the communication breaks and the profinet participants become unreachable. At that point I can still ping the device, but the profinet master does not find them anymore: When i do a scan they are not found. When i do a cold restart, the profinet master becomes active again and the devices are found again. In the log i get Ethercat packet receive error: sysethernet. I am a little confused, there is no ethercat device in the device tree. I already set the send clock and the reduction ratio to higher values, but without result. Can codesys be configured, so that the communication re-establishes without doing the cold reset? This is very annoying and is causing a lot of prodution losses. regards Tim
