have a look at UNIONs. With a union you are able to write single bytes to the same adress area which belongs to a float variable at the same time. I like to do a lot of convertions belonging to interfaces and fieldbus in this way, f.eg. word / byte swapping etc.

Hi i have a project where i am communicating with many modbus devices using TCP to serial. This is all working extremely well except when i turn one of the remote devices off. If i leave the auto reconnect on it still doesn't talk to the rmianing devices and if i turn Auto reconnect off it locks up. Any help would be appreciated. Paul.

Hello everyone, I have been given the task to develop I/O drivers for a custom made, Linux based board to allow for Codesys applications to run and control the hardware. I have successfully installed Codesys Control SL for ARM/Linux and tested it with a simple demo application. Now I should start interfacing the runtime to the actual hardware; I should be able to interact with 2 RS485 serial ports, a few GPIOs and an I2C port, all of which already have the corresponding /dev/ interface in the Linux system. I am having trouble understanding how it should be approached. I have found sporadic references that fail to lead to a really comprehensive documentation. For example: The store page (https://store.codesys.com/en/codesys-control-for-linux-arm-sl-1.html#options) mentions a "runtime package" that should allow "Integration of existing C code" and "Usage of local I/Os", which seems exactly what I need to interact with custom peripherals. I have found no further reference to Codesys-C interpop. The Codesys Help page for the runtime package has a page on the "Development of Drivers" (https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Control/rtsllinuxrbpdriverdevelopment.html) that suggests to either "Implement a function block" or "Implement I/O drivers". Those in turn lead to this page (https://forge.codesys.com/drv/io-drivers/doc/Generic/) which describes briefly an XML schema to describe new devices; unfortunately, it doesn't mention what to do with such a description (i.e. how does the runtime know about it) or how it is in any way connected to the actual hardware. Could anyone give me some pointers? I should also mention I have no prior experience with Codesys, so maybe I'm missing an obvious answer.

Hi, I have the same problem. Some of the libraries I created over time depend on writing files to a folders like c:\Temp. I can confirm that proposed solution is not working with 3.5.20 Patch 2. Can you please specify wich exactly .cfg file needs to be modified and in what way, in order to include c:\Temp in the SysFile path? Thank you!

I just installed codesys runtime on a raspberry pi Cortex-A72 (ARM v8) 64-bit SoC @ 1.5GHz (Compute Module 4) I am running on Codesys control for raspberry pi 64 SL ver 4.13.0 and I keep getting a crash after about five to ten minutes. This program was running fine on a 32bit system with runtime 4.8 previously but they upgraded the panel PC cause it got smashed. Looking at the logs I see this error "ERROR: GetNetLinkSockAndInfoByMac(): could not open netlink socket: Too many open files" at the time of crash. I do have a UDP socket open for a serial to ethernet adapter and im wondering if maybe its opening a bunch of sockets and while receiving messages, Im not sending anything to the device only receiving. Dear Edwin, we are also facing similar problem of communication failure, FB3 error in servo drives. we tried all the suggestion by Kim but still we couldn't solve the issue. we uses Codesys 3.5 sp18 patch2, servotronix servo drives CDHD and crevis GN-9483. Any suggestion / input to solve the issue please. is anyway in codesys to reset the FB3 error? -Rajan

I'm having trouble getting started with the SysFile library. When I use the FUNCTION_BLOCK ModbusChannel I have to sepcify the integer iChannelIndex It can easily go wrong if one has many channels. It would be better if one could use the name. Is that possible? Attached a snippet of the channel name and the channel index to the left.

yes i took the library from another forum: https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Runtime/thread/f1400b71b6/, it is made for the ads1115 but the ads1015 is almost the same device with same adresses i only changed the divide value of the analog value, because thats the only difference between the ads1115 and ads1015.

okay, the weird thing is the driver is only continuous running when i enable debug output. if debug is not enabled it's continuous switching from running to not running. i will check again and download the libraries Which versions of libraries do you use, can you send a screenshot?

If you are really happy with PLCnext engineer, then just use that. There is probably also something in CODESYS that cannot be done in PLCnext engineer. But if you are forced to make something like this in CODESYS, then maybe just use CFC instead of FBD.

Now I am not able to connect to my PLC using control SL. It says, check the status. Normally it used to worked perfectly before that.

UDP has no packet ordering mechanism, and Modbus protocol has no order checking mechanism nor session establishment. I'm sorry but this is false, Modbus IP based have the Transaction Identifier. Transaction Identifier - It is used for transaction pairing, the MODBUS server copies in the response the transaction identifier of the request. Modbus UDP make more sense than Modbus TCP in a local environment.

Not knowing exactly what you want to accomplish, you can try to use VAR_INPUT MyVar: POINTER TO BOOL; END_VAR MyVar contains the address of your referenced variable, and MyVar^ dereferences it allowing you to access the value. If this doesn't meet your needs, could you add more detail on what you are trying to accomplish?

I am looking for an example of how to run 2 applications on 1 device that would have global variables shared between the two apps. In this case what I am trying to do is to have the main program logic run as one application and then have the visualization run as a second application. I find this https://us.store.codesys.com/media/n98_media_assets/files/000013-F/0/Multiple%20Applications_en.pdf, that talks about exactly what I want to do, but I can't find the download. The main reason I want to do this is for download speed. Right now it takes at least a minute to download our application to the PLC. A simple program downloads to the PLC in a very short time, but add visualization and the download time gets much longer. If I could download the program separately from the visualization I think that a simple program change would take very little time to download. I have tried create a GVL in the POUs view. This partly works in that both applications can see the GVL, but they each create their own instance of it and the variables are not shared between the two apps. There are ideas of using OPCUA but this raises problems with licensing and having to move any variable that needs to be shared into the Symbol Configuration. This adds a lot of management to keep this up to date. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks.

In your soft plc folder, there is a file called targetvisuextern.cfg. Open this with a text editor to change the settings. Remove the semi-colons in front of the lines to enable your custom window settings. WindowType=0 means you will get a moveable window. Save the file and restart the soft PLC to enable these settings.

This came up again today, so I'll post the fix for future reference. Happens with Schneider Machine Expert 2.2 and M262 controllers.
