Hi, Is there a solution found for the problem described in first post? Any version above Codesys 3.5 P19 hangs during start up. It makes no difference whether I simply start Codesys or open a project directly. I'm using Windows 10 Home edition. Thanks!

We are working on a project and the customer required 3.5.16 BF4. After working on the project for a few weeks I opened it the next morning and it could not access libraries. IecVarAccess could not be accessed. I checked if windows updated - it did not. So no explanation for why it lost access other than that I shut down the computer for the night. Note that I am using a demo license. I still haven't figured out any reason to purchase a license. So I spent the next hour reinstalling CodeSys. Note that I did NOT uninstall first. After install I waited another 5 minutes for it to open the first time. I clicked File->Open to open the project. Previously I had selected File->Recent Projects - not sure if that makes and difference. But after this process it did open the project and compile it just fine. This is miserable. If this had happened when I went on site to a customer I would have lost hours of work doing the reinstall. Is there a different and quicker fix?

This is my first time posting in this forum and I am new to codesys. I am a fullstack developer and I am trying to figure out how the following. What would be the best approach to create a own/custom tag browser? Either directly in codesys ide or using a separate custom program (perhaps a winforms application). 1.a. Shall I parse the .project xml file to get a list of all tags in the project? 1b. Shall I use python scripting in codesys ide to get a list of tags? Once one have selected some tags. These tags shall be exposed to a python program which will be acting as a edge computer. It’s fine to be able to import a file. 2a. I found a library called codesys plchandler which (as I understand) acts a rest api server. Is this correct? If so, can I query the api from a custom python script, ie can query what tags exist in project and or read tag values? My research so far. From earlier projects I know that using opc ua would be perfect for this but from my opinion it’s bloating the plc since it’s resource intensive. So opc ua is not an option. Codesys automation server is neat. But I don’t want to rely on some cloud services and subscription based pricing. There seem to be several interesting codesys libraries like mqtt, tcp server and NVL sender which would help me expose plc tags. But all have a common problem. One have to manually write what tags which will be used in these function blocks. I want a similar experience like “selecting” tags in the opc ua or the codesys tracing, ie a tag browser.

Hi! Do anybody know how I can add and enable the parameter 'Default Modbus TCP slave' on a device? I am currently writing a program where the PLC shall be set up as a Modbus TCP client, but I dont know how to add parameters to devices in codesys. I'm pretty new to the codesys environment. The picture in the attachment is on a similar PLC project where I have not written the code. my goal is to add this parameter in another project.

Post by arjunk on How to correctly create a device descriptor (.devdesc.xml) for a custom Linux ARM64 PLC in CODESYS 3.5.21.20?

I’m trying to integrate a custom PLC into CODESYS so that it appears under the Device section. From what I understand, this requires a .devdesc.xml device descriptor file. I attempted to create the XML manually, but whenever I try to install it in order to generate a .package file, CODESYS crashes. CODESYS version: 3.5.21.20 Target PLC: Linux ARM64–based My questions are: Is there an official or easier way to generate a valid .devdesc.xml file for a custom PLC? Are there tools, templates, or examples that can help ensure the XML is structured correctly and won’t cause crashes? For Linux ARM64 targets specifically, is there a recommended starting point (e.g., modifying an existing device descriptor)? Any guidance or best practices for creating and packaging custom device descriptors would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone I want a communication between my PLC as an OPC UA Server and Labview on my PC as the OPC UA Client. I have an Festo CPX-E-CEC-C1-PN PLC and I have the OPC UA Toolkit from Labview. I created some Variables for testing (see picture 1) on Codesys. I tried to use this Labview block diagram (see picture 2) but I cant connect the PLC to it. What do I have to type in the Server Endpoint URL and what in the Node ID? Is this a good way for communication with a PLC to a PC? If not is there another way?

Post by danp1406 on Question about Demo License limitations for Modbus TCP communication and Fieldbus Instances
CODESYS Forge

(Post)
Hello everyone, I am currently working with CODESYS Virtual Control for Linux running in Docker on a Debian virtual machine. I am deploying my application using Deploy Control SL, and in my project I am using the ModbusFB library to implement Modbus TCP communication. My setup is the following: I am trying to establish a Modbus TCP connection between a virtual PLC (CODESYS acting as Modbus TCP Client/Master) and a Siemens S7-1200 PLC acting as a Modbus TCP Server. From the Debian VM, I can successfully ping the S7-1200 and verify that port 502 is open using tools like nc. Network-wise, everything appears to be correct. However, when running the application in CODESYS, I receive messages such as “Demo mode for Modbus/TCP Master started. Will expire and stop!” and socket errors like “ClientSocket.UpdateStatus socket error 111 disconnecting.” The ClientTCP block from the ModbusFB library attempts to connect, but the connection does not remain stable. My main question is whether the CODESYS demo license explicitly limits or interrupts Modbus TCP Master communication. Is it expected that in demo mode the runtime will automatically close sockets after some time or prevent stable Modbus TCP connections? I would like to confirm whether this behavior is normal when using ModbusFB in demo mode, or if I should continue troubleshooting the configuration. Additionally, I would like clarification regarding the “fieldbus instances” mentioned in CODESYS licensing options (for example, 2, 4, or 16 instances). What exactly is considered one fieldbus instance? Does one Modbus TCP Client block count as one instance? Does each active connection to a different device count separately? Do Modbus TCP Master and Server count independently toward the total number of instances? Finally, I would appreciate clarification on any other practical limitations of demo mode when using industrial communication libraries such as ModbusFB. Are there limits on the number of connections, number of requests, or communication duration? I am trying to determine whether demo mode is sufficient for testing a virtual PLC communicating with a Siemens S7-1200 over Modbus TCP, or whether a full license is required even for this kind of validation scenario. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Post by fabiodasilveira on PLC Shell commands via ST Code

Hello Everybody, I have created a project for an Eaton XC303 that sends lots of data to a router via UDP. It works fine. However, when there is more than one product connected to the router, then it is necessary to change the IP address of the Ethernet port 0, from e.g. 192.168.2.11 to 192.168.2.12 (second product). It is easily done via PLC Shell (setipaddr 0 192.168.2.12), but the people in production is struggling with the PLC Shell commands and I would like to create a Visualization page that will hide that. I used the instruction: eChangeIPResult:= SysSockSetIPAddress(strEthernetPort, strIPAddress); and it works, until the PLC resets. I already read some posts and it appears that I need to stop the Ethernet 0 port and Reconfigure it, but I am really struggling to find the right way to do it. Any help will be much appreciated.

When I created a new project in CODESYS using the "Standard Project" template and then added a Visualization, I was receiving the C0138 error during compilation. This issue persisted even with a new, completely empty project. A Quick and Effective Solution (My Method): After many attempts, I solved the problem as follows: From the File -> New Project menu, I selected the "HMI Project" template directly, instead of the "Standard Project" template. After creating the project with this template, I added my POUs, Tasks, and programs (e.g., Ladder, ST). Using this method, the project compiled successfully without any errors. So, my question is: are there any other solutions besides this method?

Here is a complete list of the Sequent Microsystems Pi hats that work in Codesys. https://github.com/SequentMicrosystems/SM_CODESYS/tree/main/ "For easy install download the .package file and open it on your computer, Codesys installer will know what to do with it." <- This. The Multi I/O Hat fit my needs because of the Analog I/O 4-20ma and RTD. I used a Raspberry Pi 5 and 64b install. The example project is also worth the download. With the sample project open, right click on the Raspberry Pi device and update to whatever you are using (SL, MC, 64b). Enable I2C on the PI. You can jumper the hats Analog Outputs to Inputs and see it function on the Web Visualization. Very Cool! I spent quite a bit of time trying to find this solution so hopefully this update helps others. Here is the video link on how to setup a Raspberry PI as a Codesys PLC https://youtu.be/RPoPscbo3Kc?si=Th4-n-mQ6g5fdHj8

Post by pouyavakili on Execute Codesys Tests with python

Thank you for your input! What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is automated test execution as part of a CI/CD pipeline (e.g. in GitLab or Azure DevOps). For this, I need to: Open a CODESYS project via script Build the project Run the Test Manager tests from a .TestRepository.xml Collect test results (e.g., pass/fail + a report) Exit with a proper return code (for pipeline success/failure) To integrate this into automation, I’m using the CODESYS scripting engine via Python (headless), but the issue is that the get_testmanager() function isn't available on the project object — even though Test Manager is installed, licensed, and works interactively in the IDE. Are you suggesting that I should: Use the Test Manager GUI to script the logic with its internal scripting language? Or is there a way to launch the Test Manager in headless/scripted mode, while still being able to control things via Python? If there's a supported way to automate tests with the Test Manager using scripting, especially from pipelines or headless environments, I’d really appreciate any pointers or example workflows. Thanks again!

To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
