Post by gabrielarffa on Modbus TCP/IP having problems with global variables

I'm using Modbus TCP/IP to communicate Codesys with Elipse E3 as the master for a college project. I have made a list of global variables to organize the programming in two different POUs. The problem is, when I try to do the mapping of variables, the program informs me of an error due to the identifiers having a "." on their names. Do I have to reorganize my code to make it an unified block or is there a way to declare their names without changing all the code structure?

Hello everyone. I have a problem: I installed new version of codesys IDE. When I try open project in this new version, I have many errors about Visu: rectalnge/button/frame/etc does not exist. How update properly project? 20+ pages of visu pages from 100+ frames and all visu elems looks like "Error image". It is not problem of SP20->SP21. Any update has problems from visu side.

Hello, I’m using CODESYS V3.5 SP18. When I try to use SMC_ReadNCFile2 to read the file /PlcLogic/gcode.nc, the function block's bBusy output remains TRUE indefinitely. Can you help me understand what I might be doing wrong? Here is how I’m calling the function block. The value of strFileName is 'gcode.nc'. fbReadFile( bExecute := bExecute, sFileName := strFileName, bAbort := bCycleStop, fDefaultVel := RetainVariables.xSlowVelocity, fDefaultAccel := RetainVariables.xAcc, fDefaultDecel := RetainVariables.xDec, b3DMode := TRUE, bParenthesesAsComments := TRUE, fDefaultVelFF := RetainVariables.xFastVelocity, fDefaultAccelFF := RetainVariables.xAcc, fDefaultDecelFF := RetainVariables.xDec, ErrorID => gCNC.eErrorId, errorPos => gCNC.eErrorPos, ErrorProgramName => gCNC.eErrorProgName, bBusy => bReadFileBusy, sentences => sentencesss ); Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi! I am using abb ac500 in automation builder v2.7 I have a problem with a new project. In the normal mode I have no problems, but in safety mode i cannot go online. I get 'Communication Error (#0) Logout Performed' message. I have tried changing the adress (level 1) in communication parameters. I tried 0.0.0.0.0 and 0.1.0.0.0 and 1.1.0.0.0 but it did no difference. What do you think could be causing this? Thanks!

I would recommend to ask Moxa for a newer version of Debian. Debian 9 ("Stretch") has reached its end of life and is no longer receiving security updates from the official Debian Security Team as of June 30, 2022. This means any systems still running Debian 9 are vulnerable to security risks and should be upgraded to a newer, supported version of Debian like Debian 10 ("Buster") or Debian 11 ("Bullseye").

Hi, How can we configure autostart of TargetVisualization on the remote device? The device is a Raspberry PI CM4 with PIXEL Desktop on display. I installed Targetvisu for Linux SL 4.16.0.0 on it. After each restart of the Raspberry PI CM4, we have to start Targetvisu fot Linux SL manually. i tried the step on this page: https://content.helpme-codesys.com/en/CODESYS%20Control/_rtsl_target_visu_for_linux.html but i don't get it working

When you have a deep object structure where not all values are not exposed to OPC UA, the top object will not have a V check mark but be filled fully out. In that case CODESYS do not always registrate changes to inner object. Solution set a V in the checkbox of the top object, build, download. Now you can browse, but all values in the top object will be selected, then you can deselect the ones you don't want, build, download and it works

I tested my set up with Profinet and I can receive the data. Please let me know if you have any suggestions!

The problem has been resolved. Two findings are described below for future reference. The new RPi hw delivered during August 2025 has a MAC address from a new vendor series that is not supported by old runtimes. 4.17.0.0 or above is required. 4.17.0.0 does not pick up the correct architecture during installation and aarch64 has to be manually configured either in the GUI under operations or in /etc/codesyscontrol/CODESYSControl_User.cfg under the [CmpRasPi] section.

Hi imdatatas, sorry to hear this issue caused so much overhead for you. Frankly, I'd expect a project created with an older version to compile without errors after opening > it with the latest Codesys version and updating all libraries. Yes, that is a reasonable expectation. I tried a few times but could not reproduce the problem. In case you run into the problem again, we can investigate the issue if you send a project archive. Hello, We encountered the same issues on both recipe library versions 4.2.0.0 and the newest 4.3.0.0. The Arrays of structs get saved correctly but loading them restores only some indexes, while others get lost or completely wrong. We have been using the same recipes for the last two years on recipe manager vers. 3.5.17 withoud issues. There also seems to be a different behaviour in vers. 4.3.0.0 but it's still incorrectly loading the recipes. Did you find any workaround or solution? Codesys version used: 3.5.19.50

Hi, I want to use Maxon IDX drives for some simple robotic applications. I have used Maxon's Epos for generating a DCF file to import in Codesys (attached). Then I can add the IDX motors under a CANopen manager in the device tree. Unfortunately, I cannot add a "softmotion axis" to the IDX motors. Now I am wondering, why? Without being able to attach a softmotion axis to the device in the device tree, the use of the motor is greatly reduced... spiessli

Hi geoweil, have you tried to save changed values to remanent area or using a VAR RETAIN? After restart you have to initialize Counter with last remanent value. Depending on changes per cycle and the possibilitiy of your control unit to write remanent storage. Otherwise you need a buffering system to ensure save backup of last PI_Counter value. May you could read this Thread to get further help: https://forge.codesys.com/forge/talk/Engineering/thread/31e1c8349e/#bf48

It depends on your application which CPU speed and RAM size you need. If you think the Control Standard S license is sufficient then my guess is that your selected PC has no problem running your application. There are no more "hardware" based single licenses available anymore, only application based licenses. So this "Raspberry Pi" restriction for home automation is not applicable anymore. For more information see: https://store.codesys.com/en/howto_applicationbasedlicenses

I found out that the Codesys simulation mode is not good to measure performance. As soon as I upload the code onto the hardware PLC I can see that my visu-task needs around 60 ms to complete. I'm wondering if there is a possibility to find out which visualization/visualization element takes a lot of computing time? Then I would look for ways to decrease the long computing time.

I suspect that Codesys and/or Visual Studio code alters the name I choose? Being in Windows, I cant find a way to see the mapped memory list. ~~~ using (var mmfRead = MemoryMappedFile.OpenExisting("CodesysDataShare",MemoryMappedFileRights.ReadWrite)) ~~~

To search for an exact phrase, put it in quotes. Example: "getting started docs"
To exclude a word or phrase, put a dash in front of it. Example: docs -help
To search on specific fields, use these field names instead of a general text search. You can group with AND or OR.
